Yankees are starting the offseason over the tax and with three black holes in their lineup. Spreadsheets are going to project Judge to be 4-5 wins worse too.

Hate to admit I literally turned off the game around the 4th inning. Whoops. Happy the Yankees didn't win, but if the Dodgers get any more elite free agents I'm afraid they're going to kill the game. this is like when the lightning circumvented the cap in the NHL but way way worse to me. having ohtani at his rate is pretty stupid for the league and puts the dodgers on a 1b level of hate for me.

Is the Mets-Soto pitch meeting just playing this on loop on the video board in Citi Field while Jose Iglesias sings "OMG" over in the corner That and a photo of Cole putting up 4 fingers 😂

Great to see the loss, but the MFY weren’t that great a team to begin with. Pathetically easy path to the WS and absent the hot start to the season, a slightly above average squad. Not really a surprise that a better team won in 5 games, all things equal. You just worry that Baseball (the game) or umpires will rear its ugly head. Used to be that seemed to happen all the time with these f**ks. I cherish when it doesn’t, just slightly less that when our boys win it all. I was really worried we’d see a repeat of the 2006 Cardinals…MFY had a much easier path to the WS though, Royals and Guardians really were a joke

I'm still amazed they choked that badly. They had the Dodgers. The Yankees should have won Game 1 but blew that. Even down 3-2 going to LA, they had the Dodgers under pressure. Dave Roberts admitted the 3-0 thing had entered his mind. Aaron Judge's bat woke up and they had momentum. Cole was rolling.
Then they had an inning that was straight out of my son's little league team. Take your eye off the ball and drop a flyball. Then a bad throw from SS to3b. And then the first thing they teach in little league. On a grounder toward 1b, the pitcher needs to run to 1b to cover or peel off if the 1b is coming to the bag. Cole taking the time to point to Rizzo but not taking the time to run to 1b is unbelievable. Then naturally he gave up two 2 run hits.
He was out of the inning despite the two errors as the Dodgers made a mega squander not scoring with the bases loaded...and then Cole on the play that should have ended the inning decides not to execute the most fundamental play they teach you in little league.
Then a few innings later, for an encore, they let a slumping Ohtani get on via catchers interference. Total little league.
Maybe it's just that the Yankees, with 27 championships, simply dont win in years ending with 4. The only NY team to win a World Series in a year ending in 4 are the 1954 NY Giants.
The good news is that the Yankees have never won the Series in a year ending in 5 either.

Don't the Yankees have a bad farm system too?

I feel like it's a certainty they decline the club option, but idk if there's a buy out or guaranteed $ that would count towards the CBT.

Don't the Yankees have a bad farm system too? Their BA top 5:
1) Dominguez, who they are counting on in the majors immediately 2) Spencer Jones lol
3) 2023 late first round pick who had a meh 2024 season 4) Dominican bonus baby coming off a meh Low-A season 5) 2022 mid round college pitcher who threw less than 20 innings in 2024

But the alternative is 17 mil for a below replacement level 35 year old 1B

I'm also assuming they're going to move Jazz to 2nd base next year to fill the gleybar hole and put jasson in a full-time role in the OF. That leaves 1st base, OF, bench, SP, bullpen as their to-do list. Over the tax before they even start (assuming Cole doesn't opt out).

Kinda remarkable that the overall run score for the series was 25-24 and the Yankees never even seemed remotely close to being competitive.

In other words they'll inexplicably be ranked a top 10 farm in baseball because they're the Yankees.. You obviously can never count out the Yankees, they seem to find ways to be at least decent every single year but looking at their roster and commitments combined with a down farm system right now you'd almost have to expect them to have some lean years coming up here. If they don't find a way to keep Soto I have a hard time seeing them being very good as early as next season.

I wonder if Boras Corp is hiring - I just want to do the job of coming up with ridiculous things to leak to the media. Do we know if Juan Soto has a significant other doing a medical residency

Or like the late 90's Yanks. I'd much rather a system where we genuinely don't know which teams might finish first.

I don't know, I kind of like that team that says "scr*w it" and just blows money. It's entertaining seeing what they do every off-season. As long as it's not the Yankees. The Dodgers aren't going to win every year, despite them building this way. Maybe they win 3 out of 4 at some point, but it won't last forever.

That’s kinda my point. Looking on it as a whole if you had no context, you’d would think it was a much more evenly fought series.

Between the Sox ho hum season and a WS that just created zero interest for me, I am so glad 2024 is over. Glad to read the Mookie drove in the series deciding run, I guess.
