When was the last time the Red Sox stole a big-time free agent away from the Yankees? The Soto drama is certainly good entertainment (what page are we on in this post?) but at the end of the day I suspect that they are in it to 100% drive up the price for the Yankees and make them less of a player in their true targets, front line pitching. No they're in it to actually get the player because he's a 26 year old who is a top 5 hitter. They aren't in it just to drive up the price. Doesn't mean they will get him but it's not a gambit on their part.

Washington traded him because he wanted the most money. San Diego traded him because he wanted the most money. He hired Boras because he wanted the most money. At season end he told the Yankees he has no preference and would go where to highest offer. In my opinion, any talk about farm systems, DR affinity is irrelevant. He’ll go to the highest bidder. All the leaks are just to drive up offers Yeah, I suspect this is all about getting a record breaking contract and everything else barely registers. Hope I'm wrong about that because I suspect the highest offer on the table, tax adjusted, etc. will come from Cohen and that's what will be the overwhelming deciding factor. I dont think any dollars will be left on the table. Hope the Sox plan B is heavily pitching based. I'm luke warm at best on Adames and Bregman and Teoscar.

Soto doesn’t need the Red Sox to drive the price up, beyond Shohei he’s the best free agent to hit the open market since who? Manny?

1) 25 y/o ARod 2) 26 y/o Juan Soto 3) 28 y/o Barry Bonds

I think you overrate the age difference to have Soto over Bonds. Bonds was so just so much better. Soto's last 4 years before FA: 6.8. 3.7, 6.0, 8.1 (24.6, 6.2 ave) Bonds: 7.1, 9.9, 7.8, 9.6 (34.4/8.6 ave) Bonds was much more consistently great and had a demonstrably higher peak performance. He's also had a more athletic all around skill set likely to age better. I'd be surprised if Soto's rest of career projections are better than Bonds at the time. Whether or not you you include MLB free agent context is a subjective judgement call, but I'd also rather be signing an all time player when a long contract was 6-10 years, than when it's 12-15.

Henry: “Hi Scott, we really like Juan, we’re willing to pay him $640 million to play here” Boras: “me and Juan talked it over and he’d like to accept your offer, Juan is very excited to spend the rest of his career as a Boston Red Sox” Henry: “oh….well this is embarrassing. See we just wanted the Yankees to pay more. We’re rescinding our offer” See how ridiculous that sounds?

If this is only about money, Soto is either going to be a Met or Dodger. Dodgers can defer payments long term and give him up front signing bonuses and Cohen will give Soto and Boras a blank check. I’m honestly not sure why he’d pick the Yankees unless he really liked his experience last year and wants to be part of the most historically successful franchise in sports. The same one that hasn’t won since 09. The Red Sox have a great farm system, Soto would be so far ahead of anyone coming up despite being around the same age. Who knows how this will go.

Juan Soto social media is now 70% Red Sox fans hyping themselves up. Some cnofident Mets fans and the occasional Yankee fan incredulous that anyone would think he's not resigning with them.
Scottie you wouldn't do this to us just to hurt us would you?

At a certain point, the money doesn't matter. Juan Soto can buy 50 Wrexhams, with generational wealth leftover.
Does Juan Soto want to be an alsoran in NYC, or a Rushmore in Boston?

Hope that doesnt age like "Dewey defeats Truman". I'm only thankful if he actually signs with the Red Sox. Not sure what Carrabis is doing here. I know he has sources around the club, but that would be cruel if hes wrong.

Iirc broke the montgomery firing news. That doesn’t say much. Everyone knew Montgomery was getting fired before December. He just picked the right day.

I never heard of this Mick guy but I would be shocked if he was not a faker based on his Twitter feed.
You search "Juan Soto" on Twitter and there's literally a faker reporting he's signing with the Red Sox every 3 minutes.

With how annoying it is that the NFL tries to dominate seemingly every holiday, it would be hilarious if Soto made his announcement the second the cowboys kicked off.
