Mookie's swing looks rigid. Missing hittable pitches every game He was 3-4 last game! I'm fully aware but hes low .200s for the post-season and has missed a lot of pitches to hit and in a lot of pretty big situations. Both can be true.

The whole hoopla about sign stealing is weird. It's literally a part of the game and thats why everything is coded. Growing up it was awesome when I could figure out the signs from their coaches or catchers. So Machado was wise enough to figure it out, go change the signals again. Sign stealing, if done organically and not through nefarious means, is a non-story to me.

I feel good about today. This team has just straight gotten the job done all post-season. I'd favor the Dodgers a bit tonight, but the Red Sox do seem like they're prepped to step on the throat.

Another thing to think a bit about is the pitcher's spot in the lineup and how that might effect the decision making. I know we all remember Workman hitting in 2013, so I'll be curious to see how Cora navigates those decisions with regards to when to double switch and what pitchers come in when.
It'll mostly come into play when trying to get a reliever multiple innings I would think. Be an interesting wrinkle if they used an opener of sorts in G4.

Barnes Kelly Feltman (August) Hernandez (unsure, depends on when/if he becomes full time bullpen) Brasier Hembree Lakins (June? Probably one of the first call-ups w/ injuries) Shawaryn
The last three are a toss up to me for their September/October roles/effectiveness. I'm drinking some Kelly kool-aid at the moment, and am bullish on Feltman's stuff out of the pen. Hernandez was a gut call based on the AFL and lack of lefties in the bullpen right now.

What can possibly account for Chris Sales' physical decline? If it's an injury, what could be its nature? He's had a long time to recover and he's deemed well enough to pitch. That's curious to the max. Clearly the Sox don't think there is much risk in him further hurting himself....at least thru this s(S)eries. But you don't lose 6-8 mph off the fastball for 3 months for no sound reason. The vague reports of shoulder tightness plus velo drop sound a bit like Thornburg.... If it's health....ulcer? other? He looks wan and very, very thin. I suppose losing 10 lbs. could impact his velocity as skinny as he has been. One thing I don't buy is that his dropoff is due to a mechanical issue. Such problems don't last this long. He's pitched a lot of years and perfected the delivery. He has top coaches and analytics to detect faults and correct them. This is a smokescreen. I suspect that the shroud of mystery gets lifted in a big Reveal after the Series. I think that it's truly a combination. I think he was hurt, and hasn't been able to get his arm into full strength since. I also think the illness/weight loss is real too. He came out throwing 95-96 through the first two innings and then got tired by the time the 4th came around and was down to 91-93. This suggests stamina being an issue (thus illness and weight loss), but also the fact we didn't see the 98 mph fastball and some control issues suggest his arm strength isn't where it was in July. I'm encouraged that he can hit 96 at all right now, and think that the offseason will be all about getting his full strength back.

The Red Sox really need to put pressure on Verlander and Hinch early. Score a couple early and immediately make the gears in Hinch's brain start to grind. Houston's bullpen is pretty taxed as well. First two innings of this game will dictate everything in my opinion.

Pretty substantial shakeup in the top 10. Mata down from 2 to 7. Not shocking but he definitely had a disappointing year and got hurt. Hope he bounces back as he is still super young!

I hope Cora puts out his playoff lineup and gets them to focus. No more messing around and giving guys too much rest. Playoffs are next week, time to lock in.

Known about the site for probably 10+ years, and really started visiting all the time in 2012 during the sad Bobby V year. The content and discussions about prospects was a much needed distraction from those down years for the MLB team!
Cheers Mike and co. and thanks for all you do!

The secondary sources of power have really dried up. Benintendi, Devers, Moreland have all either been hurt or lost their home run stroke which has contributed to the precipitous fall in homers as the year has dragged on

I'd like to see the offense score 7+ runs and actually do some damage early in a game. They've just been maddeningly slow out of the gates recently. Lack of homers from Betts and Benny the last month has played a role in that.

One HR and two SBs away from a 30/30 season. Incredible year
-Side note, Jose Ramirez is two HRs and 8 SBs away from 40/40 which is basically unheard of now

I hope Devers gets a lot of playing time the remainder of the month to get himself right. To me, he's on the post-season roster regardless but I think he is a true X factor that can take this lineup to a crazy level
