Just out of curiousity, is there a way to look up a teams stats by month? I have had this hunch that the Red Sox have been lacking in the power department the last two months and just wanted to know if I can look that up anywhere. Thanks in advance for your help!

That win last night was pretty huge imo. Kimbrel looked great, and to pull out that game sort of felt like a turning point for them mentally. Idk maybe I'm projecting my own feelings

Let's heat up the bats again. Looking at the top of the lineup to get us on the board early in this series. C'mon boys!

I'm more concerned with the offense than the pitching. The power is lacking. Hopefully a healthy Devers, Benny, Moreland, etc. can find the power stroke to help out Betts and JDM when they go through these weeks where they don't hit any.
That series was ugly on offense.

When was Benny's last home run? Feels like he's due for one this weekend

You only do that with guys that aren't good enough when players see them more than once and don't get a massive jump in there stuff in short 1 to 2 innings blocks. That doesn't seem like Houck at all. Also Pedro makes a great point, you can't really do that with a 25 man team. Nevermind this whole Rays with no starters is kinda crazy. They don't start Beeks, yet he pitches 5 innings almost everytime. He's acting like a starter, he's just not starting. Its not like they use in for 2-3 innings twice in five days or something like that. Its like starting Hembree for 2 innings and then bringing in Johnson for 5 innings. You only do that crap if you have too because if injuries and he fact you traded away two starters. Why they just don't start Beeks is beyound me. They do it so that pitchers like Beeks can pitch into the 6/7th with only facing the best hitters twice instead of a 3rd time. If he's pitching well they take their chance against the bottom of the lineup for a 3rd time instead of the top of the order the 3rd time.

www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-next-prospects-who-could-pull-a-glasnow/Kiley McDaniel touches upon this Rays model in that article. I don't think it changes how you develop the pitchers, but it can alter their use once they get to the big leagues. I would agree that you develop him as an out and out starter, but it is an interesting use of assets and a potentially new avenue for pitcher development at the big league level. If it becomes clear Houck is not effective the 2nd time through an order, this idea is a way to possibly maximize his skillset beyond the traditional starter/reliever profiles. It'll be interesting to see if there is more of this down the line.

Random thoughts: I think they'll wait until September 1st to add ERod, when rosters expand. Devers is starting to bug me. Not his defense, but his swings and misses. He swings at everything close and sometimes not even close. Way too many strikeouts. Just hacking. Plate discipline is not his strong suit. I wonder if Chavis will eventually take over 2nd. He used to be a SS. Pety may be done forever. Dalbec could challenge Devers at 3rd. I don’t think Dalbec will challenge Devers. Be frustrated if you want, but remember: Dalbec is the older player and he is two levels behind Devers. The latter could just as easily be at Salem for his age. To me, he’s been really good, all things considered. Devers development should be a familiar sight to us all. It's reminding me of Bogaerts a bit. Come up at 20, play a big part in a playoff roster, then struggle a bit in the second year (both offensively and defensively). Devers has been better than Bogaerts was in his 2014 year in my opinion. Devers scalds the ball with some frequency and before this year hadn't really had to refine his approach at the plate. He might lose some ABs down the stretch but that shouldn't dampen the outlook for him moving forward.

The offense has been kinda blah since the ASB. Good to see the bottom of the lineup seem to come around but they have had a lot of 1 or 2 run outputs in the past two weeks.
I've become a bit suspicious of their ability to hang against real good pitchers. The ABs against Arrieta and Nola the past two days weren't all that encouraging. Hopefully they go out and put up a couple crooked numbers against Severino and co. this weekend and remove that doubt from my brain!

They're only 3.5 back of a wild card spot and have been very good recently. Also, Archer has a pretty reasonable contract moving forward

So I know he's young but its been a while since I had any confidence in Devers to square up a ball. Lot of popups and weak grounders... walks arent there, has an obvious hole on the inside pitches/low and away. He's a relatively easy out right now and they need him to get going

I kind of agree, but it still feels like we have a bunch of solid-average potential guys. Need a guy to really pop. The depth FEELS better, but almost all of that is in the low minors which comes with a good bit of wishing

Tanner Houck has turned a corner here. Great to see him turn it around and showcase the goods recently!

Cora has been a pleasure as a manager so far. He is personable in interviews and seems to have a good grasp on how the team is feeling as a whole. He is more proactive in managing the bullpen than we have seen in recent years here. Can't question him too much, except probably the Nunez playing time (and hitting him 6th most of the time).
Great first half!

MLB nailed the new format for the HRD. It had gotten stale and took too long, but now its a 2.5 hour event with drama in almost every matchup. Bryce Harper's run at the end was insane!

It was a bad start, and it highlighted some of the issues with Price's arsenal these days. Everything seems to come in at a similar speed, and there's not really a breaking ball to show the batter a different shape.
When he doesn't have the pinpoint control he shows in some of his great starts, a good RHH lineup like the Yankees becomes a mismatch. He looks like a #3 starter moreso than a #2/ace that we hoped he'd be.

His changeup combined with his elevated 95 MPH fastball is a lethal combo

He has struggled at the plate a bit this year, but is a better defender and hitter than Nunez. He's also a RHH and a FA to be at the end of the year.
What do you think it would take to get him from the Twins, and is this something we should do? Pedey seems like a longshot to contribute this season.
Would a Lakins/Buttrey and a lower level lottery ticket be a good deal?

What RHH utility infielders are out there to trade for? That's probably something we actually have assets for...

The only way a trade of JBJ makes any sense is if a cost-controlled CF is coming back. Otherwise, what's your lineup? Benintendi in CF and Martinez in LF has not been a good defensive combination. Not to mention, who do you want as the DH in that scenario? The bench is bereft of hitting.
JBJ offers more to the Red Sox than they would get in a trade for him.

Also, when looking at a lot of the performances of our minor league pitchers I have to wonder if this is reflective of a shift in development strategy. We haven't produced starters in years, so a new approach was in order.
The yankees seem to always have guys with control issues coming up and they hit on a few of them as starters the last couple years. Let's see what happens, Mata is still so young and performance to date is pretty darn impressive.
