Benny! That was a great AB. Confidence builder.

This swing at the first strike you see approach should be adjusted by pitcher, situation. Severino is not quite as good with men on base, and frankly, I’d rather run up pitches on him and face their pen than give him 7 or 8 inning by being anxious or early. I've been thinking this the whole game. Also, I think Devers, Benny, and JBJ need to settle down in the box. They look over anxious and without a real plan.

Regardless of injury, a breaking pitch seems essential as Price's velocity dips and the effectiveness of his changeup diminishes. Needs something else to get hitters off balance

I've liked everything about Cora so far, and I think he will make an adjustment eventually, but it is weird for him to be so defiant in answering the questions about moving Mookie in the order. Just seems to go against everything else he has said and done. Oh well.
Let's hand these muppets a beatdown tonight.

Also, Mookie needs to hit 2nd. It honestly might help Benintendi to hit leadoff in front of Betts right now.

Price needs a breaking ball. He doesn't throw 95 anymore, so the FB+CH combo isn't as deadly. Lefties and Righties see the ball pretty well against him.
He needs something that comes with a different shape, so he can mix and match more with sequencing. The FB, Cutter, Changeup repetoire is not generating many swings and misses.
I know Speier mentioned a while back that since the elbow injury he has barely thrown his curveball. Something to watch

I don't know what happened to Benintendi since leaving Fort Myers, need him to turn it around. The catchers have both been worth -0.4 fWAR. Leon has put up -37 WRC+ (lol) and Vazquez just 28 WRC+. That's gotta improve just on inertia right?

It'd be nice to see him catch a couple of games. Vazquez and Leon have been bad at the plate and I'd like to see what his skills behind the plate are like.

Have teams started to dramatically shift their defenses against him? Would think that the outfield alignments could start to be adjusted to negate this trend (obviously hitting it over the fence is the best way to beat the shift

I hope Lin plays as well. This very injury is why I was skeptical of choosing Holt over Marrero. Oh well, Tzu-Wei Lin time baby. Get to see the #5 at short again....

So through these first few games, anyone think the batters are being over aggressive? I get that they're "hunting" good pitches but it seems to be like they're going up there to swing and not necessarily a plan of attack to me.

Speier just said Groome is going to the DL with a flexor strain (same injury that ended his season in '17).... Aargh!

Pumped for Price today, and maybe the bats put up a 10 spot as a response. Let's go

I know he had some makeup questions at draft time, but from reading Speier's piece and considering the craziness surrounding his personal life, I am super impressed with his composure and maturity to recognize what he needed to do this offseason. Really hope it all pays off with a massive year for him.
The reports this spring are very encouraging. Mow'em down young man!

Admittedly, I haven't watched any spring training action, but it seems as though Travis may be on to something with his swing. Another HR today.

his Bat first profile at second base has drawn comparisons to Adam Kennedy and Tommy La Stella which I feel is a fair made Callis at this point in Netzer's young career If we get anywhere near Adam Kennedy like value out of Netzer this would be a great pick. Kennedy had basically four 3 WAR seasons and was a very serviceable player. Here's to hoping we got a steal!

Having just read back through some of these responses, I just want to say that the discussion on batted ball profiles and how it pertains to Benintendi is great. These discussions, when respectful and insightful, are why I love this site. S/O Fenway and Telson for that.

What do we expect from our beloved Andrew Benintendi this year? I think there are some areas where we could see marked improvement.
His defense, for me, is the area that I think could be better with experience. He's athletic and seems to work hard, which makes me believe he will be better in LF than last year.
Offensively, I think he has the bat-to-ball skills and approach to potentially achieve a .300/.375/.450 line.
Has anyone's outlook on him changed after last season? Do we still see all-star potential?

Lovely media posturing by Boras and JDM. At the very least gave us something to think about, and has this forum considering his alternatives

I agree that it was a misread of the market. As a guy who initially liked the Moreland deal, I'm walking that back due to what the market has borne out for similar/better players.
