There is just no pitching depth right now. The Red Sox inability to develop starting pitching in the last 5 years has left them in this situation. It's what makes those trades by Cherington in 2014 especially frustrating.

It's also a shame looking at our high minors pitching and wondering what could have been if we got some minor league pitching for Lester and Lackey. Could really use that depth.

On what planet is playing Young in CF vs a RHP better than playing Castillo in CF? There's no way that Castillo is a worse hitter vs. RHP and his defense is 10 times better. This would work too, the only variable is when Castillo was going to be able to get to the ballpark I would assume. |

Mookie's walk rate is down to 5.8%. For a guy who was repeatedly over 10% in the minors, this is surprising. As a result his OBP is pretty low for a leadoff hitter and is heavily reliant on his ability to get hits. Any thoughts on his changed approach in the MLB as compared to the minors?

Lakins with a nice outing: 6IP 4H 1R 0BB 6K also...not sure if anyone is noticing what Ben Taylor is doing in his piggyback role in Salem this year. Tonight: 3IP 1H 0R 0BB 5K On the season he has a 0.97 WHIP with 33 Ks in 32 innings (while averaging just over 3IP per appearance). He (Taylor) pitched a game or two on NESN last year and I thought he was pretty good. Nice delivery and a curveball that played pretty well off his fastball. Could be a good relief option. |
