I yelled in my living room by myself when Xander hit that double. Awesome inning, and hopefully they kick it into gear

Just cannot resist the double play. Its an addiction and they need to go to rehab for it.

It was really encouraging to see Pelfrey spin a gem out there. Also, gotta love Perkins locking down a 4 out save.
This is a twins fan forum right?

These past two games have been oh so refreshing. Still things to work on, but seems like the energy level had picked up after fridays embarrassment

Napoli is the first player who has been really hot on our team in so long. Victorino has a nice little stretch, but Napoli is carrying us offensively. Well Hanley was pretty hot in April. I miss April Hanley... like a lot

What about a guy like Butterfield as manager? He has experience managing in the minors and is constantly praised for his dedication to working with the fielders on developing their game.

I think that was one of the most frustrating games recently. They ripped the ball and Kelly pitched well.... and 2-1 loss. SMH

When was the last time Xander squared a ball up? His swing looks off balance and devoid of a chance to drive the ball

Why can't we just get one good start? Like come on this is getting ridiculous. I know they're soft hits but it could not be more infuriating and troublesome that every game the offense has to score 8 runs to have a chance.

Reading this thread and the other posts on various other threads has gotten me to this conclusion.... It's time to start playing baseball and forget all the speculation for a while. Can't wait to (hopefully) enjoy watching this team this year.

Chris Mellen and the BP Prospect Staff released their Red Sox top ten today: Link1) C Blake Swihart 2) LHP Henry Owens 3) CF Manuel Margot 4) LHP Eduardo Rodriguez 5) 3B Rafael Devers 6) INF Michael Chavis 7) RHP Matt Barnes 8) 3B/OF Garin Cecchini 9) LHP Brian Johnson 10) RHP Michael Kopech I was a little surprised to see Kopech in there, but based on upside it makes sense. Pretty much what we would have expected.

I would say the fact that his changeup has been so good is cause for excitement. We have long heard that the fastball is plus and the curve has shown plus on occassion, but the change always graded as average. I think that we may just be seeing another young guy beginning to hit the wall a bit. I think come next year if that curve finds consistency and the change looks as good as it has been in his brief look, Barnes will be a pretty damn good young guy in the rotation.

Is there any chance he also improves significantly on defense? Napoli picked it up in a year, not saying he will be that good. But I feel more professional reps at first can turn any decent athlete into a more than competent defender at first base. I also believe his power will begin to show. Im rooting for him.

Decent start from Barnes today. Not great but 6Ks in 5 innings is encouraging.

Xander needs the All-Star break maybe more than anyone else on the team. He is missing pitches he should hit, and looking lost at the plate. Hopefully he turns it around soon. This is pretty much the first time in his professional career he has struggled, and I hope he is taking it in stride and learning from it. I'm curious to know what others think about this recent, albeit getting prolonged, slump of his.

While that sounds like a strategy that would foster development, it is undoubted that he spent a good deal of time in XST working on those fundamentals. A pitcher can look like a stud in a bullpen or simulated game, but until you are put in that actual game experience you won't know how those mechanics and fundamental work play out in a game. You can question whether Ball was ready for Greenville, but spending the whole year in and out of XST in Fort Myers just wouldn't do him any real good either.
