For anyone interested in watching, I believe this website will have a link for live stream of some of the games. Doesn't look like the links are active just yet so my apologies if this is a dead-end www.mlb.com/arizona-fall-league/live-streamsLooks like they are also making the recordings available, which is great for those of us on the east coast. I watched the first five innings last night but had to get the link via mlb.com/video as it never appeared on the livestream page.

I am enormously grateful any time anyone in the sport talks about anxiety and depression.

Finished Part 1 of the podcast... I can't believe you think your listeners won't remember Bubba Bell. My own Bubba Bell story is one he told himself, and I can't do it justice, but listening to him tell it (to teammates on the back fields) was hilarious. He was playing in the Venezuelan Winter League, and apparently the stadium lighting was really tough. He lost a fly ball in the lights... and it hit him in the throat, badly enough that he had to see a doctor to see if he'd badly damaged his larynx. Despite clearly being injured he was apparently vehemently booed off the field (none of that "we're glad you're alive!" that players usually get). When it was clear after the game that he was OK to resume playing, the manager told him he'd have to sit for a few home games to spare him from the fans' wrath--he said he'd get him back on the field as soon as they went on the road and that it would be OK after that. He was a very entertaining storyteller, which is maybe not unrelated to the situation described on the podcast. Also grateful for the kind words, and amused by the reference to Jonathan Singer's approach to photos... listening the morning after I was once again facing my own discomfort with walking up to people to ask them to pose for photos! Give me a little distance and a zoom lens, please!

Meanwhile, though it appears the Sox affiliates haven't made official announcements, the 2024 schedules seem to be up. Thinking only of myself, I am disappointed by how often the WooSox and Sea Dogs have parallel schedules (home at the same time/away at the same time) but grateful that Portland and New Hampshire split the Fourth of July week (in Portland July 1-3, in NH July 4-6) and that there's a series in NH following Labor Day (very timely for late-season promotions if you are driving from MA).

Worcester season ended with not one but two rainouts. Salem ended with two rainouts, too (even if they technically got two innings in on the last day that were officially erased). With Portland losing its second to last game to the weather, only Greenville had a clean finish to the regular season.

This is the way the season ends, not with a bang but a whimper.

Abe Alvarez shall never be forgotten! No one I have photos of will ever be forgotten. I don't remember how I found the site--maybe a mention in the Globe? I know it was before Cla Meredith made his ill-fated debut in 2005, because he was the first prospect I saw at Fenway after following him in the minors. I don't think I actually posted before July 2007 when I shared photos of Clay Buchholz with the PawSox.

Bringing Frank German in for the 8th was a little unsporting imo. In 2010 the Altoona Curve faced Trenton in the Eastern League Championship and Trenton's Game 1 starter was the rehabbing Andy Pettitte. Chase d'Arnaud homered off him and earned a permanent place in my heart.

Worcester's game should be at 4:00pm.
Portland would have been a 1:00pm game, but in any event it's been cancelled (and will not be made up). It's extremely windy here and I suspect they don't want to encourage people to travel.

I don't disagree, fundamentally, but I do think doing it in the majors is a different situation.

Commentary in the Greenville broadcast that after Alejandro Osuna struck out to end the top of the 5th he had to be held back while expressing his extreme displeasure with someone in Greenville's dugout (perhaps but not necessarily Monegro). I love his enthusiasm and his expressive reactions to getting outs but I do wonder a bit if it's going to get him into trouble as he moves up levels.

If you have been looking forward to Portland's Field of Dreams promotion, be there Friday night! Hurricane Lee forcing them to move the festivities up by a day so no one gets killed by windblown cornstalks.

Quiet here tonight! Portland up 15-4 in the 7th and calling in some guys for the second shift (Esplin in for Jordan, Lugo in for Anthony). Pretty solid effort right down the lineup.
Meanwhile, LIDOM draft is tonight; Licey has drafted Yordanny Monegro.

Mullins started for Salem but the word is that they will use 7 pitchers today after yesterday's cancellation. Mullins in his second inning now so tune in soon if you'd like the full buffet live. Now that I've said that, a) Zack Kelly and Frank German have been the pitchers (the latter just began his inning), and it's raining, and sounds a bit ominous. Edit: officially tarpaulin time.

Zack Kelly making a rehab appearance for Greenville this evening. This is not why I came to Greenville. (At least it's not Joely Rodriguez again.)

Nice tidy 1 hour and 20 minute game in game 1 of the Greenville doubleheader. I am guessing this possibility is why the announcement of the doubleheader specified that Game 2 would not start earlier than 7pm (the original start time).

Greenville also postponed with a doubleheader tomorrow, despite my hopes that the DH would be Friday. Looks like a great day tomorrow instead of a rainy one.

Ian is down in Greenville for the week, although I guess the weather looks bad the next 2 days. Wet today and tomorrow, better Thursday, fine Friday - I am less than an hour north - it's been a deluge. If they reschedule anything as a doubleheader, they should definitely plan for what looks like beautiful weather Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday. Incidentally, I will also be in Greenville Friday, Saturday and Sunday. (Though I do have mixed feelings--if Song pitches tonight I would probably see a weekend outing but if he's delayed to Weds/Thurs it's dubious.)
