Peter Gammons ?@pgammo 1h Red Sox were in watching State College OF Rowan Wick in case Cards make deadline push for Jake Peavy Not sure how I feel about Wick. Looks like he has solid stats in the NY-Penn league, but spent two years in rookie ball....have to think he wouldn't be the center of any deal, but who knows. I know nothing about him but I'd rather the Sox target guys in the low minors with upside. High risk high reward than higher level guys who are more organization filler. Maybe at best an injury depth guy, etc. swing for the fences. And we want 3 options left as well.

Rowan Wick certainly has interesting numbers. He draws walks and hits for power. That's pretty obvious. What's not so obvious is how he would fare at higher levels but I would be interested in seeing that. I think he'd be an interesting target for Jake Peavy. This guy could be nothing or he could be one helluva power hitter, and a left handed one to boot. I wouldn't mind seeing the Sox take a chance on a guy like this for a guy who won't be on the team in 2015 and is pretty replaceable on the 2014 team.

Buster Olney ?@buster_ESPN 8m Peavy/Cards hasn't happened because BOS wanted a prospect in return; STL wanted to just take on salary. SF? Peavy/Bochy go way back.

Mac Williamson would be on top of my list from the Giants. I wanted the Sox to sign him when they drafted him a few years ago. Would add big-time power potential to the Sox OF. FWIW, underwent Tommy John earlier this year, so unlikely he'd be traded.

Didn't stop Crawford and DLR being traded.

Sox have a bit of history with Williamson. This type of project may be all they can get for Peavy at this point.

If there is a chance of getting Williamson for Peavy, then I would do the trade immediately. While there is risk, he is more than I would suspect we get back for Peavy. I fall in that middle ground between those who say we should give up Peavy for nothing and those who are shooting for the moon.

Jen Royle @jen_Royle · 6h Even though Peavy moved to 1-9 last night, teams are not backing off from him. Interest is still strong. Total of seven teams have inquired.

Put Koj in a deal with Peavy and see if you can get Crick from SF.

Jayson Stark ?@jaysonst 11m Peavy to #STLCards doesn't appear dead. Red Sox dispatched top scouts to watch Cards' New York-Penn League team in last few days.

Get that pick they stole. That'd be enough.

I want either the pick or Rowan Wick

Rowan Wick was promoted to Low-A ball last night. He went 1/5, with a HR and 2Ks last night.
BTW, I'd much rather have the pick. Wick seems like a perfect example of selling high.

Let's not get greedy here. If the Cardinals eat all/most of Peavy's salary and also offer Wick, that's a solid enough return for a pitcher who some on this board have called a DFA candidate. Of course you'd like to get a better prospect, but that's not always possible.

I (as the Red Sox) would eat the rest of the contract for just the pick.
