For all the Mookie-mania, he really hasn't been performing with the bat so far. He's striking out a lot (21.2%) and not taking his walks (7.7%) compared to his minor league stats and is slashing 191/250/362. From my non scouting eye, it also looks like he is taking some bad swings at pitches out of the strikezone low and away. In Mookie we trust, but at least for now he's not doing anything that would suggest that he belongs in the majors over JBJ or Castillo.

It's currently .200, and we've all seen him rip some liners that got caught. 2) You're right though, especially about the swings at pitches down and away. See this post from jmei for some detail.

Hanley's BABIP is even worse than Mookie's at .184. But he hits more home runs and strikes out less than anyone so he's still a good bet to be hitting over .300 when that regresses.

A string of two good games could have Mookie's OPS past .800. SSS and everyone has their slumps. He hasn't looked nearly as lost as say Xander last year.

Masterson's velo was up a bit in the first inning-- was in the low 90s regularly.

Really bad error for Betts-- just slide and cut that ball off, no need to try and be slick and make the play on the run.

They have been pretty generous at not calling errors early this season, which isn't very generous to the pitchers.

Is it possible to teach Hanley 1B and bring up both Castillo and JBJ?

Now those so-called analysts trying to predict the future with their fancy modern stats like ERA, they might care, but that's their problem.

What would be generous to the pitchers is making all these plays which should be made.

No. We can't have 27 men on the roster. I'm all for cutting ties with Napoli and Victorino at this point. Napoli is going nowhere and shouldn't. Craig needs to go to AAA to get some at bats. Castillo is on the DL so he's not coming up. JBJ still needs to prove he's legit in a larger sample size.

?@gordonedes 59s59 seconds ago No explanation yet why Hanley Ramirez came out of game in 3d inning. Didn't appear to hurt himself. Maybe his breakfast didn't agree w/him

JBJ still needs to prove he's legit in a larger sample size. Castillo is on the DL, so I can wait on that. Still, JBJ had a great spring to go along with a good start to AAA (granted last season he had a great spring too). JBJ is going to be a superior fielder to Victorino. I don't see JBJ in any scenario hitting worse than .143. How much has Mookie proved and yet they're letting him ride it out in CF? I'd like to see him given one more chance. It's not like Victorino is going to be here in the long-haul. As for Napoli, his leash is only long because of the lack of depth at 1B. It's not like Craig or Nava are knocking at the door. Napoli's power was way down last season and his hit tool has never been that great. His eye still seems to be in tact as he's drawing a few walks. Hopefully I'm wrong and he'll make me look like an idiot come June.

With all that money flying around, no one can give him a Pepto Bismol?

Is inducing errors a skill? Cause this Red Sox teams looks like it has it in spades.
