Napoli's 2014 wRC+ 124, league average for 1B 109. Napoli's slugging percentage for 2014, 419, which was equal to the league average for 1B. He is also a solid glove at 1st. I have no idea why he is slumping so bad to start the year (could just be a slump, or mechanics related) but I'm not giving up on him, he has consistently been a good hitter every single year of his career.
ADD: and with the bases loaded let's see if he could break that slump.

Napoli is going nowhere and shouldn't. Craig needs to go to AAA to get some at bats. Castillo is on the DL so he's not coming up. JBJ still needs to prove he's legit in a larger sample size. Castillo is on the DL, so I can wait on that. Still, JBJ had a great spring to go along with a good start to AAA (granted last season he had a great spring too). JBJ is going to be a superior fielder to Victorino. I don't see JBJ in any scenario hitting worse than .143. How much has Mookie proved and yet they're letting him ride it out in CF? I'd like to see him given one more chance. It's not like Victorino is going to be here in the long-haul. As for Napoli, his leash is only long because of the lack of depth at 1B. It's not like Craig or Nava are knocking at the door. Napoli's power was way down last season and his hit tool has never been that great. His eye still seems to be in tact as he's drawing a few walks. Hopefully I'm wrong and he'll make me look like an idiot come June. We're still in small sample size territory on Napoli. He's been a great hitter for us for the last 2 years and he should be again. And see, there's him walking with the bases loaded.

Pretty smart move by Chen, though, keeping his ERA low with that E1.

Is inducing errors a skill? Cause this Red Sox teams looks like it has it in spades. It's the new Market Inefficiency.

Every fan who interferes with a ball in play should receive a lifetime ban from Fenway. An extra run might have scored if that hadn't happened.

Victorino tried his best to ground out to third

Victorino tried his best to ground out to third Is there reason to believe that Victorino will shake out of this? I'd still rather sink or swim with JBJ and then Castillo.

Thorne can't believe that that's an error.

I hate to be that guy, but could someone give a description of what just happened?
Not trying to bring up the blackout thing again, but I can't understand why I can't stream WEEI broadcast, when if I had an AM radio with me I'd be able to listen from the exact same spot for free.

Victorino grounded sharply to third, Machado misplayed it, it bounced into that little area where the stands jut out right up against the field of play, and a fan reached down and touched the ball as it was ricocheting into left field.

Basically, Chen wasn't throwing into the zone and Lavarnway wasn't framing the pitches either. Wouldn't have been many runs if not for an E1, weak comebacker to the mound that Chen dropped and then needed two tries to pick up. Later, Victorino chopped one to 3B, which took a nasty hop to get by Machado and was interfered with by a fan.

I have been treating Xman with kid gloves because I am rooting for him but we had him on the ropes and I feel he could of did a little more with that at bat. That being said does Farrell really feel it's the best for this kid to keep hitting eight?

I don't understand this as well. I think it's because of MLB.tv where you can stream WEEI or the opposing team simulcast for a fee. I don't understand how I can listen to something on a radio for free, but be charged when I try to connect to that same very station through the web.

Keep him there for a while this season, let him get comfortable and wait until he's starting to really rip the ball. He has a high BA and OBP, but I'd rather wait until he brings up the LD% and and starts slugging the ball more.

Yes-- he has more walks than strikeouts (16.7% BB, 11.1% K), and while he hasn't hit the ball hard so far (e.g., his line drive rate is down and his IFFB% is way up, no extra-base hits), that's the stuff that is most prone to small sample size fluctuations. He also still looks well above-average defensively.

He's gotten a little lucky with BABIP but not completely outrageous like Holt. Not sure how much more you expect. The good news is that he isn't batting .000 on outside sliders like last year for 3 months.

That being said does Farrell really feel it's the best for this kid to keep hitting eight? Me, too, a bit ... but he had a really bad at bat yesterday against Gonzalez, too. Gonzalez was having control problems, guys on base, and Bogaerts waved weakly at some outside sliders, including one way off the plate. He's got to get better at laying off those pitches in general, but especially when a pitcher could use the help ... edit to add: I think overall he's been much better this year, so don't make this out to be more than it is, but he's had a rough couple of games here.

He has 6 BB and 7 K's in just over 50 PA's, so he seems to be controlling the plate. But I sure would like to see him square something up and drive it.
