In what other industry can a 17-year-old be paid millions of dollars more on the basis of potential than actual accomplishment? No matter the individual, this is a process fraught with risk (and I'm not sure it says much positive about our society and our values). Oookaaay (slowly tiptoeing backwards)

I love the arm action when he lets go oft he ball. Very funky, seems like it throws some guys off. When that slider's on, it's nasty.

Nothing like giving $3-4 million to a 17-year-old with "immaturity and idiocy" (per Keith Law) issues. What could possibly go wrong? Keith Law may be a reasonably good judge of talent, but he's also an intensely self-absorbed, condescending little pr*ck who's really not in any position whatsoever to be judging others' character. Actually, it is a part of his job as far as analysis would go. And you really should read exactly what he said because he was asked about Groome's character issues and siad they weren't as bad as most think.

When the Orioles said they need to get pitchers as depth, they stay true by selected 8 pitchers out of their 10 rounds draft. In compare with the Red Sox, they're only get 4 pitchers out of 10 rounds. We need to get them due to no depth from our minor league levels if there's injury on current Sox pitchers.

I did read it; he's more reporting hearsay, and I know he's tempering that hearsay. But my commentary on him stands. I appreciate his baseball opinions, while finding him insufferable as a person, insofar as I've experienced his personality through his chats.

That makes no sense. Unless they got lucky drafting a reliever, nobody from this draft is going to be helping the staff this season. In a perfect world, a collegiate pick at 12 *might* have helped next year.

And I'm ecstatic that they got Groome, even over Dunn, who I liked. After the first two rounds, the chances of hitting on an MLB-caliber pitcher are extremely low. That's why teams draft for talent, and Groome has that in spades. And potentially, aces.

Not to mention that you don't draft for need in the MLB draft. You're supposed to take the best player available (with the caveat of signability). Besides, 4 pitchers and 6 position players is almost balanced. If anything is out of balance it's that we took 2 HS players and 8 college players. And considering the senior signs at the end, I'd wait until the draft is complete before we even think about criticizing that.

Bobby Dalbec will be starting Game 1 of the Super Regional tonight versus Mississippi State. It is his 5th start of the year and 25th appearance. I believe it is televised on ESPN2, right now (6 pm EST). In a matchup against Dakota Hudson. Thanks for letting us know.

And the next IFA period opens up in a couple of weeks so there's plenty more to be excited about. Not to mention that our MLB team is not mathematically eliminated at this point in the year yet.

Usually at this time of year there are openings on both the Lowell and GCL rosters that you can see early signings slotting into. This year all rosters are shown as full. Where are any early signings, and for that matter, the later signings, going to play this summer? Are there going to be more cuts than usual this summer to make room? Or might we sign fewer players than usual (we usually sign 25+ players from the draft)?

"Sox fans who hump prospects all day complain that the team has no top end talent in the farm system that could turn into an ace aside from Espinoza." -- While I'm not sure this is even a sentence, you haven't seen me "hump prospects" (so to speak), all day long or otherwise. Sorry to be a skunk at the picnic. Now, back to the show… How about "humping" the Quote button so we can all follow the conversation?

Dalbec is looking pretty good as a pitcher. I hope he works out at 3b though. His fastball is straight.

If you believe the projected Lowell roster on this site (and I don't know if we should?), I'm not sure where all this week's college draftees will be playing; things seem pretty full as it is. Are any releases/promotions in the works?

In a draft with not a whole lot of power bats, I think taking Dalbec isn't a bad option. Can't argue with a power hitting 3B, even if he does have some swing and miss. I'll add that I do really like his swing, definitely has a lot of loft to it which could suit him well for Fenway Park. The upside is there as maybe a .250/.325 25HR guy Mike Napoli at 3rd base. If he busts after a few years we can always convert him back to a pitcher.

Add 1 inning and 3 K's to Dalbec's statline. Great looking breaking ball.

Are any releases/promotions in the works? I highly doubt the Sox brass is going to lose any sleep over that. Some will go to the GCL, some will go to Lowell, players will get injured, split time at positions, play different positions or just sit on the bench. It's really more about getting them into the system and living a professional ball players life than anything else right now.

K'd the side on 9 pitches He won't sign for under slot. Crafty pitcher getting better as the game goes on. Maybe he is more valuable as an athletic pitcher.
