Joe: Knowing what you know would you have taken Groome with a top 3 pick? Klaw: Yes, I would have. I might have handled him differently post-draft than other prospects, but so what? If you find a talented kid with a drinking problem, but no history of violence, abuse, destructive behavior, etc., you might still draft and sign him, but have EA people in place with him, avoid certain environments, etc. That’s the cost of developing players to me.

Isn't that all he does is report consensus while never watching any prospect? I don't understand why he has credibility. I think Law actually scouts guys (or at least some of them) in person. I know he scouted Groome and I remember him tweeting out while scouting Greenville last year. I agree he can be pretty condescending though I was at the game in Zebulon NC low-A ball when Law scouted and met Xander, who had a HR that night. He scouts a lot in person.

Keith Law chat: Brian: Keith, the Red Sox selected Florida’s closer, Shaun Anderson, in round 3, mlb.com suggests he could be made a starter. But for this year, is he someone that the Sox could put in the big league pen this year and then try him as a starter in the minors next? Is that bad for his development? Is he even good enough to consider that? Thanks a lot. Klaw: I don’t think he can be a starter. It’s not outrageous, but I think he’s a pen guy, and I’d do what you suggest – move him quick to AA or AAA and see what happens. I agree with this. Put him in the pen and move him quick versus labor thru years of trying to develop him as a starter. Percentages are much higher he's a top reliever and he gets there much faster.

BA's "five comments" on rounds 3-5 all included Sox picks, with both Shawaryn and Anderson seeming to be seen as value/upside, and Dalbec as a very viable mound option given his swing-and-miss game (on both sides of the ball). I'm really happy with what they did on day 2; even Chatham seems like a potentially valuable pick if he really can stick at short, and they're right about his bat. I'd make Dalbec a pitcher right away. Forget that bat.

I'm not sure it can be understated how impressive shutting down the Mississippi State offense is. That lineup is lethal. Ridiculously impressive outing by Dalbac today. I realize we aren't supposed to be the grammar police around here, but for your use in the future, you meant "overstated," not "understated." The sentence as you wrote it means exactly the opposite of what you want it to mean.

If he's whiffing almost 50% of the time on the Cape, that sounds to me like an irredeemable problem with pitch recognition. Almost no chance he hits when guys are throwing 90+ regularly with quality breaking stuff that's located well. I still think teams should let guys like that DH between starts, but if they're going one way vs the other, I'm saying starter 100% of the time.

Anyone see Dalbec's HR today - that power may be worth dreaming on for at least a little while...

Dalbec was a announced as a 3b I believe. So what that id say our intentions are to have him hit but his success and talent as a P is intriguing especially his recent success on the mound he has basically dominated. I would say see if we can fix his swing 70-80 power is rare and mybe he is chris carter or mark trumbo or mybe he is a career AAA 1B. But if in a year or less we don't like his adjustments to pro ball turning to the mound will always be a option and mybe a great success story to follow.
I didn't like our 2nd rd pick. Granted I don't no anuff about him to be a hater what I have read doesn't get me excited.
Shawn Anderson and Mike Shawayrn really intrigue me especially Shawyarn. Nogosek and Scott are interesting picks. Like we went for some potentiel bullpen help early this year.
