Hopefully we can ride a hot streak from JBJ and Xander into the playoffs?

Hopefully we can ride a hot streak from JBJ and Xander into the playoffs? Hanley is the biggest x-factor to me. If he keeps coming through in big spots the whole lineup benefits.

I feel like with Hanley it's only ever going to be feast or famine. Every once in a while he will win you a game and in between he'll be a bit of a liability- but that's just me.

If this team goes anywhere in the playoffs, it will be in spite of their manager.

when he's locating that breaking ball, it's almost unfair.

They're going to skip Wright's turn in the rotation next time around, right?

When he's on, the look on Kimbrel's face is stone cold murder.

How bad has the team clutch hitting been, on the season? Before last night's game, it had cost them just 1.1 wins. How is that possible? They've actually been way better with runners on (.299 / .367 / .501) than with the bases empty (.272 / .335 / .433). With men on, they have struggled hugely in two different situations: 1) Bases loaded and 1 or 2 out. 2) Runner on 3rd, or on 2nd and 3rd, and 0 outs. Here are the bases loaded heroes and (mostly) culprits. R is by Linear Weights, and the next column is per 600 PA. I've counted SF as 0 runs, which is about right. Name PA BA OBP SLG R R/600 Hanley Ramirez 12 .364 .417 .545 0.73 36 Mookie Betts 9 .333 .333 .667 0.55 36 Chris Young 1 1.000 1.000 1.000 0.48 285 Brock Holt 7 .200 .143 .800 0.20 17 Sandy Leon 5 .400 .400 .400 0.05 6 Blake Swihart 3 .000 .333 .000 -0.28 -55 And. Benintendi 2 .000 .000 .000 -0.30 -90 Marco Hernandez 1 .000 .000 .000 -0.30 -180 Ryan LaMarre 1 .000 .000 .000 -0.30 -180 Travis Shaw 6 .000 .333 .000 -0.55 -55 Aaron Hill 3 .000 .000 .000 -0.90 -180 Bryce Brentz 3 .000 .000 .000 -0.90 -180 Josh Rutledge 2 .000 .000 .000 -0.90 -270 Dustin Pedroia 7 .286 .286 .286 -1.15 -99 David Ortiz 6 .000 .167 .000 -1.18 -118 Ryan Hanigan 6 .167 .167 .167 -1.33 -133 Jackie Bradley 16 .154 .250 .385 -1.38 -52 Xander Bogaerts 10 .111 .200 .111 -1.90 -114 Christ. Vazquez 9 .111 .111 .111 -2.23 -148 Bradley has come up a ton and hence hurt the team more than anyone but CV, but on a rate basis he's been the least bad of the bad guys, better than Hanigan, Ortiz, Bogaerts, Pedroia, and Shaw. Since I posted these numbers, they've had the following with bases loaded and 1 or 2 outs: Brock Holt 1B with 2 outs Sandy Leon 1B with 2 outs Hanley Ramirez GS with 2 outs. These, of course, are 3 of the 5 guys who had not been part of the problem. Yet to the team it may well feel as if they've broken the bad karma. We'll see what the other guys do when they next get their chances -- although it will take a long time (perhaps never) for the sample size to be mean anything.

Kimbrel should have came in to start the eighth. Especially after Betances pitched two innings last night in KC right?

More Wright regression. But let's put Buchholz in the bullpen just when he had it figured out. Buchholz doesn't deserve any rope. He has to pitch well in his apportioned role. He only has himself to blame, whether he figured out something or not. His starts during most of this year are as a big a reason for our record to date as Farrell's bullpen management. Wright is the guy who deserves to be in the rotation.

Wright has a 5.30 ERA since 6/25 with uglier than his usual mediocre peripherals. It's worth discussing giving him some rest.

Lovullo was winning games last year with a garbage team. Farrell is losing games this year with a great team.
With all respect to Farrell because he battled cancer last year; but was this year's managerial job granted to Farrell as sympathy for what he went through? It still blows my mind that Lovullo wasn't kept as manager. No disrespect to Farrell, cancer is terrible, but the front office needs to select a manager that is in the team's best interests.

Will this make him eligible for the post-season roster?

He just got off the DL, and I don't think it is in the best interest of the club to be making a recency bias decision on this evaluation, particularly because, at a minimum, he is likely to give us more innings. Honestly, Buchholz has essentially failed in his starting and relief roles this year, but we want to plug him in because he had 1 really great start. I think we have more pressing issues to resolve than Wright's spot in the rotation. Add: In sum, do we want to open another spot in the bullpen at this time? That's his role....he needs to concentrate on doing that. Wright is eminently serviceable at the 5th starter..which is how he is pitching at this moment.

Aside from his one great start, Buchholz hasn't shown me much personally, so I don't have a problem with leaving Wright in the rotation, but he hasn't been good (aside from the LAD start) in a long time.
