Well, this game is spinal tap 11 "Yuck".
Unless they score, biggest run deficit loss - competes with April 28, Tampa, home game (12-6 loss - Price) May 3 at Texas (11-5 - Price) May 27 Atlanta, home game (7-1 - Sale) June 7 Detroit, home (7-2 - Beeks)
and of course the no offense games that wasted good pitching performances.
It happens.....glad I just watched a few innings (we are acclimating a new rescue dog - now THAT is fun!)

If you have to lose that's kind of a good way to do it - unless you're a fan paying your way into the ballpark.
If E-Rod was totally going to suck, tonight when they don't score is a good night to be lousy.
If the offense was going to be mostly absent after scoring 14 runs the night before might as well have your starting pitcher be lousy.
I look at it this way, the Sox usually score for E-Rod. Tonight they didn't, so maybe with Sale pitching tomorrow instead of the bats taking a vacation maybe they'll actually give him some run support. What a novel idea.

I was actually surprised at how few blow out losses we've had - testament to our starting pitching quality. But I agree - every now and then, it is just going to be a flat, bad game - no Xander, no Mookie didn't help.

The lineup had Nunez, Vazquez, and JBJ in it. That's pretty bad. But at least beefing up their bench shouldn't be that costly to do, either financially or prospect wise.

Swihart swings under every fastball.

Swihart swings under every fastball. I think right now it seems like Swihart and Devers just close their eyes, hack away and hope they get lucky - Nunez simply swings at everything. We have some fundamentally weak hitters right now. It is nice to see Moreland staying on an even (and impressive) keel. But the line up is pretty swiss cheesy with Mookie and Xander out.

I am concerned about the amount of time Betts is missing. The Sox needed him tonight and there have been other similar occasions. An ESPN writer wrote a few weeks ago that the time Betts was missing was causing him to be ranked lower than some other star players. Trout plays all the time.
Any player who does a head first slide should be fined. If you look closely at Betts doing his headfirst slides into second base, there is a noticeable slowing of his momentum before he gets to the bag. I know it has been widely reported in the past that tests show that running through the bag at first is faster than sliding into it. I don't know if there are any studies of sliding feet first into other bags but I bet it is faster than going headfirst. Furthermore, there is a far greater risk of a hand injury with a headfirst slide as we saw last night and have seen numerous times in the past.

Approaching the half way mark, this is troubling
Swihart - .149-0-3 - no clear plan for him...stuck in limbo JBJ .178-4-17 - last 10 games 4 for 34, 1 HR 3 RBI Vazquez .211-2-11 - last 10 games 9 for 34 - actually doing a bit better (a bit) Devers .236-12-39 - last 10 games 11 for 41 - flashes of improvement (faint flash) Leon -.240-2-10 - last 10 games 7 for 33 - flashes of improvement Nunez - .251 - 4-18 - last 10 games 8 for 32. on a mediocre even keel
This is 6 of our 13 non-pitchers. Nearly half. When Mookie and Xander out, it is no wonder we struggle.
Question...what do to? We saw last two years what happens going into playoffs with big black holes in the line up.

Just about to tune in - peeked at the box on ESPN - Sale is doing his part....and the offense seems to be doing what it does when Sale pitches. Early yet - hoping for runs!

Nunez's fielding is mindbogglingly bad.

Nunez couldn't score on that double by Devers?

Nunez couldn't score on that double by Devers? That must have been Feebles decision, I am OK with it, for now.

Some nice adjustments going on with these at bats - exciting to see our strugglers taking some great swings (and getting results)

I am starting to believe there is light at the end of the tunnel for Bradley. You all have shown he is hitting it hard enough. Hopeful, poor guy looked lost a month ago.

Benintendi is a joke in center field. I'm a bit biased...but when people are commenting "oh we can just deal JBJ and Benintendi is above average in center we'll slide him over, blah blah" sometimes I feel like swearing on the forum. I'm too gutless to do it, but it crosses my mind.

Gonzales is like Milk. He has an expiration date. In this case the 5th.
