It was said upthread. I agree. Watching Nunez play D is a trip.

Finally, 2 of JBJ's line drives fell in. Your belief In JBJ finally is rewarded. He's not the only one. Apparently May 2016, late 2015 and whichever the other hot stretch that all rank among the 15 greatest hot streaks of the last 25 years (as per fangraphs article, I think 150 at bats was the minimum) never happened, or don't matter when a guy is slumping. For 6 mil with elite defense I would think it's OK to hold out hope.

First, his struggles couldn;t be hid, because all the other bottom of the order struggles. Second, he wAS getting beat regularly on average fastballs in the middle/inner part of the plate. It was as bad as I can remember seeing. It is a tough call.

Moreland is a steal at this level of production.

People were blowing 90 mph nothingballs by him down the middle and he couldn’t touch it. But he appears to have solved that problem. He’s been putting good ABs together and hitting the ball hard for weeks. I don’t know which baseball god JBJ pissed off, but hopefully he’s paid up now.

Moreland is a steal at this level of production. He's like Cody Ross all over again. I think they got him so cheap because he played with a broken foot last year for a few months. He's got a great Fenway swing and legit power.

It was as bad as I can remember seeing. It is a tough call. You're surely right about that, about the way it was happening. Sometimes with three average fastballs in a row, guessing at pitches etc. To me and I've admitted bias due to personal reasons, but it looked like it started with fouling some of those fastballs off. Which turned into working decent counts, then hitting balls hard and having a bit of bad luck. Some people will never warm to a guy like Jackie. I can understand that given the inconsistencies and his agent. Edit. I'm not sure if anything can be as bad as his first 2 call ups. I mean at least he was stealing bases and popping the occasional home run during the first 2 months.

Finally a Sale start that didn't get wasted. I'd take him out now and try to preserve him a bit.

i hope Cora leaves Sale in the dugout. Great start...very good pitch count. Day off tomorrow. Let the bullpen finish it.

Sale's best start of the year. I feel like this was one of the most fundamentally sound games the Sox have had all year.
In the 5th inning when the Sox needed a fly ball to score on a sacrifice fly, they did so to perfection.
The 100 mph on Sale's last pitch was beast mode too.

The Yankees did tie it up, but now it's going into extras and Sanchez appeared to hurt his groin running out a GIDP and had to leave the game. In addition to the game going into extras, their starter German went only 3 innings so they are on their 5th reliever and nearing the end of a 17 consecutive game stretch. Too bad they have an off day before facing us.

That reminded me of his start in Yankee Stadium last year where he came out the gate throwing up or 90s and ended the game throwing fastballs by Aaron judge and Gary Sanchez. It was around the All-Star break if I remember correctly.

The Yankees blew a great chance to score in the 12th with the best part of their lineup. I'm not even thinking about the Rays potentially winning this game for the sweep, I'm more delighted that the Yankees will have to pitch a 12th inning and a 13th inning at a minimum to win this game.

Well, the Yankees don't end up pitching more, but they do give up a walkoff HR on the first pitch of the bottom of the 12th and get swept by the Rays in Tampa and now have to go to Philly with a depleted bullpen.

What is he trying to imply there? That the Sox are good or if they're cheating? I don't get it.

Excellent baseball day.
Chris Sale pitched like....Chris Sale, and he even got some run support.
And the Rays threw a bucket of ice cold gatorade on the Yankees' hot streak. Thank you Kevin Cash and your Rays.
I have to admit to being surprised that the Rays aren't as awful as I thought they'd be. I thought they'd be at 100 losses. Kevin Cash is doing a great job with a team that can't even identify 5 starting pitchers, have already dealt away their closer and let go of their best hitter (still can't figure out why) in spring training.
