I would have a hard time picking between Devers and Vlad Jr if I had to pick one. (not counting service time) edit- what a legendary start from Ryan Weber. Probably the best spot start since Aaron Cook's 82 pitch shutout in 2012. Can he replace Velazquez? Two more hits for JBJ to the left side of the field. Have we paused to consider the possibility that dmaineah is actually a witch whose anti-JBJ diatribes on this board are the magic incantations that snap JBJ out of his slumps? It would kind of explain a lot...

Hope that 7th inning Squander doesn't come back to haunt them.

offense really should have put this one away by now...had runners on second and third no outs with xander and devers due up and got nothing more.

Great job by Weber. (Though, not sure i'm sold on him yet).
Lakins worked out of that leadoff Double nicely.

how can you think Devers won't become a good third baseman (or isn't on his way right now, haven't seen many errors lately)

Lakins' fastball had some really strange movement on that strikeout pitch. It was 93 mph and looked like a cutter or slider but it broke vertically more than horizontal. I have no idea what it actually was.
edit - signs of life from Pearce, Nunez and JBJ is nice to see.
Ugh, a LH knuckleball pitcher is not what I want to see right now heading out of town.

Why didn't they just DFA Thronburg? They're going to activate him and use him later in the season?!!

Jerry and Don need to explain knuckleball pitchers better. It's basically impossible to hit a knuckleball with no spin on it. The only ones you can hit are the bad ones which are spinning too much (like the one Pearce just hit! lol). A knuckleball pitcher who always threw perfect knuckleballs would be literally unhittable. There is no strategy other than to destroy bad pitches.

I guess that's why you never see left handed knuckle ball pitchers ever.

More BABIP luck for Devers but unironically.
And meanwhile Pearce don't need no BABIP. Those holes in the bottom of the batting order are sure closing up!

He'll still get credit for a hard hit ball on that because it was 96 mph with a horrible negative launch angle. haha Sox have 13 hits in last 5 innings. Blue Jays have 1 hit in the last 6 innings.

Meanwhile the Yankees are about to win 12 straight and the Orioles are a disaster against New York this year.

Really unprecedented impressive start for Weber. He's here to stay folks. He's proving to be really hard to hit with all that movement. Nice breakout for Pearce and even Nunez got a hit or two.
Add- Weber is the fifth starter for the foreseeable future now.

Meanwhile the Yankees are about to win 12 straight and the Orioles are a disaster against New York this year. Givens coughing it up again in the 9th. Struck the first 2 hitters and then gave up a walk, single, walk, walk to bring in, what was eventually the winning run. Sox have to beat them when they play them.

Ohh shoot, heard it wrong. Point still stands, the Sox are winning at a great pace and it's annoying that the injured Yankees won't die.

I would have a hard time picking between Devers and Vlad Jr if I had to pick one. (not counting service time) I thought about the other day and how I see it is would I pick the .900+ OPS DH (because he's a butcher in the field, slow runner and his body is already getting out of control) or the .800+ OPS average fielder (I'm being conservative here) at 3rd base who happen to be a sneaky good baserunner? Love Vladito but I'm very happy with my large son who I'm on record for saying he's the most gifted player of our young core.

Devers is projected to be a monster. Vlad is already a monster. That being said, if Devers can find a position he can sustain even average defense, he'll be by default the better player.
Plus, Devers wants to be here (he'll probably be a lifer here). I wouldn't trade Devers for pretty much anything. I'm very critical of him because I expect greatness out of him.

I was strictly talking offense about the monster part (should have been mpre specific), Devers is hot no doubt, but I still expect Vlad to be better by the end of the year.
