Well giving up Frankie Montas as a throw in for Jake Peavy was unfortunate. I guess... but after Cherry traded him to the White Sox at the 2013 deadline, he was then traded to the Dodgers in the 2015-16 offseason, and the Dodgers shipped him to the A's at the 2016 deadline.
That's hardly the pedigree of "the one that got away."
That said, I'd be proud to serve as the chairman of the Welcome Home, Frankie! committee.

Ryan Pressly extended (again) by HOU, for 2/$30m.
If his $14m option vests after that, he'll surpass fellow Rule 5 pick Shane Victorino's $65m career earnings.

Perhaps but they could still use another reliable arm and didn't really seem to trade anything for paddack that the As would want back for Montas.

I like the Rogers/Rooker for Paddack/Pagan swap better for the Padres. Paddack has been declining - health related I would assume. Pagan isn't that good. Meanwhile Rogers has been consistently good - excellent K/BB ratio and Rooker should be able to provide some power and walks for the Padres OF. He'll probably be an improvement upon what they have.
The Twins are desperate for starting pitching so they'll hope that Paddack and Gray (and I feel like I'm forgetting somebody else) will give them enough starting pitching to put them back in the wild card/ALC race.

I want to see this Hayes 8 year extension. Weird choice given that he doesn’t have a big enough sample to judge and he was a major xwOBA overperformer in his only good major league stint. Good glove, but could be a fringe starter long term on the downside

I want to see this Hayes 8 year extension. Weird choice given that he doesn’t have a big enough sample to judge and he was a major xwOBA overperformer in his only good major league stint. Good glove, but could be a fringe starter long term on the downside Pirates fans talk about him like he's going to be a gold glove candidate for the entire contract, so I guess a lot of his value is in defense. But you have to at least be able to hit a little as a 3B and he has a ways to go. But the floor is still pretty high with his glove. I mean that would have been a good deal to sign JBJ to when he was in his 2nd year, though he was playing a more important defensive position.
