Interesting. Oakland will soon be trading away their experienced starters. Honeywell was a top prospect who couldn't stay healthy. Would have liked to have seen the Sox get him. Wonder what Oakland had to surrender.

I'm sure Tampa got themselves something quite useful in the deal.

Tall about buying a prospect. I get that the injuries have taken the shine off, but I'm surprised Tampa got rid of him for cash.

Does Carlos Correa following a bunch of Tigers on instagram after visiting there constitute a reason to think he could be going there?

Not that I had thought Alcantara was likely at all for a trade but he's nearing an extension with the marlins so cross him off the list. I still think a deal could be had for one or their other starters though. Lopez or rogers could slide into the rotation nicely.

Dang I had thought descalfani could have been a solid target. That's about what I figured he'd get too. Still plenty of options left so not upset at him being off the market.

I know the giants were said to have quite a bit of money to spend this offseason but that's 22 million or so for wood and descalfani. I wonder if they're planning on gausman leaving? Gausman would slot I'm nicely as the 3 starter so long as the contract isn't crazy.

Gausman would slot I'm nicely as the 3 starter so long as the contract isn't crazy. Logan Webb was literally the only MLB starter they had under contract. They had to sign SOMEONE. As for Gausman on the Red Sox, he scares me. He was way worse in the second half. Unless the Red Sox think they know how to fix him, I'm not sure I love the idea.

The Tampa Bay Rays saw enough in the 70 major league games that shortstop Wander Franco played to wrap him up with a massive contract.
Sources confirm to ESPN that Franco, 20, has agreed to a 12-year contract that guarantees him around $185 million. The deal is worth a maximum of $223 million.

Nice of him to sign right before there's a new CBA that will likely increase his negotiating power substantially.

Just in case anyone is wondering what sport to get their kid into. Wander Franco is 20, won't get take a helmet to helmet hit a day in his life, and the minimum he'll make in his career is $182 million.

It's easy for me to sit here and think this but 12 year deal? Don't get why you'd take that as a 20 year old. Why not do 8? You're still going to get a big bag of money for 8 and be a free agent at 28. None the less happy for the kid, he's a superstar in the making and now can focus on being baseball instead of money.

Team option year looks like it's around $40 million. If you subtract his pre-arbitration years it's around 8/180.

They've more or less been competitive since 2008. Since 2008: Last place finishes: TB 1, BOS 4 Playoff berths: TB 7, BOS 7 First place finishes: TB 4, BOS 4 Will they trade guys before they become free agents? Sure. But in this case I think the only Rays comp might be Longoria, who they traded at age 32 and right as he kind of fell off a cliff.
