The new draft slotting system is ridiculous and dumb

I don't get why we didn't take a position player. We need some more organizational depth there...

Below slot? Maybe. But he didn't sign with the Mets last year. Going to JC clearly indicates he wanted to be available, but what will it take?

Should be some nice players in the 3rd and 4th round yet to go after if we have a some extra cash. Also have to remember Boston will have a sizeable amount to spend on the international players and may add a player like Rafael Devers 3B from the Dominican Republic who they have been connected too.

Paroubeck becomes a target in the third. Unless they are banking on someone falling

The new draft slotting system is ridiculous and dumb It certainly hurts big market teams like the Red Sox, but at least small market teams at the top are taking best player available. In years past the best players often fell to big markets.

I really think Wilson has advised teams he was returning to Stanford.
Don't really know enough outside of the top 15 range to really have an opinion on Stankiewicz. I liked Sandberg in this range and Tellez in the third round range though.

Another high upside pick. Stank is only 7 months older than Ball.

Or the Red Sox could offer $680,400.

It's amazing how much impact rankings have on people. If he was ranked number 25 he would be a great pick, but he's ranked #77 so it's a bad pick. It's not like any of us have seen the kid enough to form an educated scouting anaylsis on the players they could have picked.
The Red Sox usually use their 4 or 5 to go over slot, so if they do it this year I expect it will be in those rounds.

He's actually a really fresh arm considering he went to a JuCo, to get back in this years draft. I liked the arm strength that I just looked at. Pitching, pitching, pitching.

hmmm...not going to complain quite yet, but surprised again for sure Should I do it for you? please do like others on the board, I hope there are some below slot intentions going on, but I kind of doubt it given the bonuses we paid to Marrero and Johnson last year. Admittedly, I need to read up Stankiewicz but I draw any firm conclusions, but man that was a bit of a shocker.

I don't get why we didn't take a position player. We need some more organizational depth there... Always, BPA. There's a lot more that the Sox do than reading scouting reports and looking at prospect ratings on the internet.

People are way too quick to assume below slot deals on picks they don't agree with (see the immediate reaction to Morrero and Johnson last year).

Being a Stanford hitter really knocked him down a lot I guess.

Last year the only position players drafted my the sox that got more than 10k were a defensive SS, and and a guy that struck out 37 times in 39 ABs last year. And now we have drafted 2 more pitchers. Apparently Ben Cherington doesn't believe in offense.

Below slot? Maybe. But he didn't sign with the Mets last year. Going to JC clearly indicates he wanted to be available, but what will it take? It is entirely possible that they agreed on a below-slot deal. We, of course, won't know until he signs. My guess is that he'll come in at approx. $1mm.

So there is no penalty for exceeding the time allotted? I guess it is a short amount of time...

The Stankiewicz pick is acutally perfect for right there. They can probably save 300,00-500,000 on the pick and he is still a high upside power arm. In these next couple rounds teams are going to be tapped out looking to sign "freebees" until after the 10th round, while hopefully the Sox can spread some of their money around more evenly.

At least the Sox haven't started selecting mediocre SRs yet. As for the bats I expect to see a few tomorrow that have potential and Boston has had solid success on the international market with hitters. We will add a few more on or after July 2nd.
