I don't get why we didn't take a position player. We need some more organizational depth there... I get what your saying but if you have good young pitching you have a chance. TB is constantly breaking in young guys and we have the money to sign hitters on the market.

I'm not saying it'll happen, but with the Red Sox having pretty good pitching depth in the high minors, if Owens/Ball/Stankiewicz/Johnson look like decent picks, they will have the ability to deal from depth. With Webster/RDLR/Ranaudo/Owens looking like you'll get two SPs out of them, a top formerly prized pitching prospect like Barnes could be dealt away without taking much of a hit.

Teddy Stankiewicz is the pick. Am I the only one trying to pronounce his name 'Stank-ee-Wits,' in addition to chucking more than a guy my age should? Future gameday threads are going to be gold when its his turn to pitch.

People are way too quick to assume below slot deals on picks they don't agree with (see the immediate reaction to Morrero and Johnson last year). I brought it as an idea not saying it was gonna happen. He was ready to sign for 680 k last year and if he signs for 1 million you are saving money and he's getting more than he was ready to sign for last year. Not saying its gonna happen or anything just speculating.

They may save some money on either of these guys but not much. Doesn't look like their intentions.

I don't get why we didn't take a position player. We need some more organizational depth there... You are aware that this is a 40-round draft, right? Of course! I just thought they could benefit from adding a nice positional prospect. But you always do go BPA, and I guess they liked Stank. Still a bit disappointed that they didn't take Wilson...I guess we'll see though

Have to remember Boston will also likely use the extra 5% in the budget as well and pay the tax so there will also likely be an additional $341,510 dollars to spend on a pick. Could easily see Boston go 1 million each on the next two picks for a signing bonus.

If slot is more for pick # 45 then it would appear they could save some cash here Is it true that this would be a protected pick also? Where we get another pick next year if he doesn't sign? That seems to be the case as I understand it. Is that correct?

It's lucky for Pedro Astacio that the Rockies did not draft Teddy Stankiewicz.

Below slot? Maybe. But he didn't sign with the Mets last year. Going to JC clearly indicates he wanted to be available, but what will it take? It is entirely possible that they agreed on a below-slot deal. We, of course, won't know until he signs. My guess is that he'll come in at approx. $1mm. Where can we find the slot $ for all the picks? I can only find 1st round. Maybe at $1 mill this is still a below slot deal that will save us a small chunk of change.

Not sure why Denney is dropping. I thought he was a back end first round pick. Suprised to see him still available. Is he the only guy in the studio still not drafted?

God, it has been a long time since I have been here. Now I am going to be a newbie even though the last time I posted here I had over 2000 posts. Anyways, I hope you are all doing well. Two questions, why the board change? And who was the novice that had a hard time knowing where to put Krook's name on the big board. I mean seriously, was that his first draft?

It appears that Mayo is more concerned about defending his rankings than staying consistent regarding his evaluation of players.

Can find them at Baseball America although you may need to be a member but I think they're on Sox Prospects if you go to the draft board link.

Roberto Hernandez, born in the DR, did a marvelous job of announcing the TB pick in the second round.

It appears that Mayo is more concerned about defending his rankings than staying consistent regarding his evaluation of players. So is it reasonable to infer that he is likely a reliever based on these write-ups and his lack of an better than average secondary pitch or is there belief that he can legitimately learn enough to be a 4th starter if not slightly moore?
