Please tell me the Yanks don't get Denney with this upcoming pick. They were linked to him in the first all month!

Do the Sox have Ball as a Pitcher only? Or do they let him play the field like they did with Casey Kelly? Scouts seem to like him at either position, so it might be beneficial to have him play both and see where he shows more promise, especially considering his power potential in an organization that lacks power bats...

bluechip, I was just thinking the same thing. What would it take to get one of them? There have never been one of these draft day trades before, so has to be hard to say. I would guess a C+ prospect (the Red Sox) have a lot of these.

azblue, That is what I heard earlier today but I wasn't sure. Especially after MLB commentators talked about potential trades with the picks. But it seems MLB isn't ready to let teams trade during the draft yet.

Stankiewicz according to Baseball America:
The highest unsigned prep pick in the 2012 draft, Stankiewicz went in the second round to the Mets out of a Texas high school. New York did not offer him the full $680,400 assigned value for his No. 75 slot, so he declined to sign. He backed out of an Arkansas commitment and headed to Seminole State so he'd be draft-eligible again this year. Stankiewicz has performed well enough to go in the same area of the draft, boosting his fastball consistently into the low 90s and topping out at 96 mph as the weather warmed up. He'll flash a plus slider that he can throw as hard as 85 mph, but he also uses a curveball and can get caught in between the two pitches. He has worked to improve his aptitude with his changeup. Despite adding 25 pounds of strength since last year, Stankiewicz does a good job of controlling his 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame and repeating his mechanics, allowing him to throw strikes with ease. Scouts don't love his drop-and-drive delivery, which allows hitters to see the ball better and costs him some plane on his pitches. He has recommitted to Arkansas again, though he's expected to sign.

I would give it a B-, I like the idea of getting youth and guys with versatility. We'll have to wait and see on the differences between Ball and Shipley.

Paroubeck gone. Liked him as a prospect with nice upside.

@speditors As part of Trey Ball's write up on SP could you compare pre-draft scouting reports on HS pitchers selected between 5-10 slots in prior years in comparison with Trey Ball?

To me it's looking like we are building more thru the international last year and this year. I think they had a dam good year internationally in 2012. I don't know if its the help of Romero but something changed.

So how big was Denney's bonus demand?

Who are the preferred targets at 81 now? I'd like to see.. (not in any particular order)
Denney (If they think he'll sign) Rowdy Tellez (Was talked about as a target at 45, might be available at 81 now) Ryan Boldt (Again, if signable) Cord Sandberg Cavan Biggio JaCoby Jones

It appears that Mayo is more concerned about defending his rankings than staying consistent regarding his evaluation of players. So is it reasonable to infer that he is likely a reliever based on these write-ups and his lack of an better than average secondary pitch or is there belief that he can legitimately learn enough to be a 4th starter if not slightly moore? Baseball America says he flashes a plus slider, for what it's worth, and pretty much everything I've seen suggests he should be sent out as a starter because he's got a real chance to stick.

Yeah, I'd be happy about any of those guys at 81. Doesn't mean they'll take one, but they'll definitely have the chance at at least one.

Going to assume they're going to go with a position player, although going off last year's results you can never be so sure.

Not nearly as amused as I was by MLB Network playing new Yankee Clarkin's the pre-draft interview were he admits he hated the Yankees and his favorite moment was when they lost the World Series.

dcprosportsreport.com/MLBMocks.htmVirtually every pre-draft prediction of the first round is found on this link. I checked the first 28 on the list. No one picked Ball to Boston, but a few had Ball going ahead of No. 7.

I think it's an important takeaway that, while the Sox had less picks, the first two rounds have gone considerably more favorable, at least in my opinion, than last year. Granted Callahan was/is an intriguing pick, I am much happier with these first two rounds than last year's first two.
