Fortunately, they've just barely played enough innings to call it. Doesn't the game have to go 5 innings to become official? Is it not a full 5 innings? The team that is losing must have completed five full innings of at bats for a game to be official. In this case, four and one-half innings is sufficient.

If it gets called, it's an official game since the Rays officially had a chance to tie or win in their half.

Any word on the next checkpoint? Like they are trying to start at this time, or they will make a decision this time?

I don't expect the Red Sox to rush him, but, at some point, they'll have to try someone other than Allen Webster to fill a hole in the rotation. Did he seriously say this about a guy who is playing excellently in AAA and has exactly 1 poor major league start in his career to go with his 1 good start?

I think Webster has been having control issues in his last few pawsox outings if not since his last redsox outing.

That is an excerpt, however, I believe Law has said repeatedly during the last couple years of watching Webster that he sees him as a 70 arm/35 control kind of guy who is better suited for the pen. I know from reading his stuff that he did scout Webster several times when Webster was in the Dodger org. Law was somewhat optimistic after seeing Webster in spring training this year but called the pitcher's showing there a small sample and was doing a wait and see. Perhaps he's referring to Webster's body of work, or his recent AAA starts where he still displays some significant bouts of control problems?

Tarp off the field. Game one to resume soon. Game 2 will be played 30 to 45 min. after game one ends.

Back to back triples by Ellsbury and Victorino, both hit to RF, Myers. I've never heard of back to back triples before. Did Myers misplay them?

Not really, they were both hit to the right field corner. Myers bobbled one a little, but it was at least a double if played cleanly. Nice win. Now short break and game two

It is frustrating that they used four of their best five relievers (Tazawa, Miller, Uehara, Breslow), but I guess you have to play to win the first game and take your chances in the second.

With such a short outing, I'm sure Aceves can go Saturday if Buchholz can't. Won't need a call-up. Any word on who our 26th man was today? And, on Buchholz's side session. Supposed to determine if he goes on DL or not.

Also the reason Morales was out stretching before the game with Salty was Acves was late. Stuck in traffic.

Aceves has been pretty valuable for us this year.

Looks like Carp isn't quite ready to start yet. Gomes in left field vs. a righty, with Nava getting his second start of the year at first.. Game 2: Ellsbury CF, Victorino RF, Pedroia 2B, Ortiz DH, Nava 1B, Gomes LF, Saltalamacchia C, Drew SS, Iglesias 3B, Doubront P CF Ellsbury RF Victorino 2B Pedroia DH Ortiz 1B Nava LF Gomes C Salty (why!) SS Drew 3B Iglesias LHP Doubront Aceves has been pretty valuable for us this year. Absolutely. He was terrible during his first bunch of appearances, but he's been an invaluable spot starter as of late.

What is the deal with Drew? Why haven't we benched him or given a day off or something? He looks awful out there.

Interesting, Salty is listed as catcher for the second game. You would think that Ross is automatic for this game. Is there something wrong with Ross or just a lineup mistake. For you nostalgia buffs, how often has Ellsbury lifted the ball this year. Seems like mostly grounders or low liners. Just wondering.

According to McAdam, Farrell recently said Salty and Ross would split the DH. Gammons just said on NESN that Ross seemed completely fine this morning, although he's battling some plantar facitis in his left foot. My guess is some concussion issues resurfacing, as he took a few off the mask the other day. Great start for Felix! EDIT: Speier: Buchholz placed on 15-day DL with a neck strain, Ross on 7-day DL with concussion issues. Lavarnway, Wilson recalled.

I wonder when we will see Doubront make it to the 8th inning...

Very impressive piece of hitting there for Iglesias, despite Myers running it down. That ball - struck with authority all the way to the track in deep right - is the type of ball I never thought Iglesias would hit.

That was much more impressive than one of his 18 hoppers thru the left side of the defense. Will we see Rubby on Saturday with Buchholz on the DL?

Doubront suddenly looking like the second best starter on the team, and the best starter just went on the dl.

I was listening to the radio interview with Farrell before today's 1st game and he said if Buchholz was placed on the DL that Aceves would not be available Saturday on 4 days rest & that he would consider both De La Rosa & Webster for the spot start.

Gomes is a steamy pile of garbage. Agreed. Get rid of him & bring up Brentz. 14 HRs & 49 RBIs
