Why are we playing Salty tonight? Give the man a break, 3 games in two days. This might speak a bit about their confidence in Lavarnway. Farrell did mention that Lavarnway will start in Det. tomorrow against a lefty, but still I gotta believe around the 6th inning Salty's quads are going to feel like they're full of rocks.

You don't necessarily need the guy who can hold the 1 run lead in the ninth. Most save opportunities are 2 and 3 run saves. That's why you'd rather have the "relief ace" in the 7th or 8th inning if possible. A lot of guys could do it, but the question is what bullpen alignment allows you the best usage in a day in day out way. Also just because a pitcher has the stuff to close doesn't mean he'll excell there. Believe it or not this is the one area where the intangible is nearly as important as the stats. Is there more pressure in: A) a one run game, with runners on second and third, in the 8th inning or B) a two run lead, with no one on base, in the 9th inning Are you saying that the guy you would trust, with no hesitation, in situation A would be unable to handle situation B?

This isn't the first time this year that Lavarnway hasn't gotten slotted when it appeared to be reasonable. I think you are probably right that it indicates possibly some lack of confidence. It also could be that Salty is in his FA year coming up and Farrell wants to help him some with that and maybe thinks it's in the clubs interest for Salty to build value also. It is purely in Farrell's self interest also to have motivated players but it may also be in the club's interest in terms of building value. It's possible that he plays into a QO if not likely. And from what I've seen Farrell is all about winning each game. It's less about politics and interpersonal relationships as it was with Francona.

Dempster is a steamy pile of garbage. Two runs in three innings? How is this guy even in the majors? Cut him, evict him, deport his family.

Ok, please someone agree/disagree with me. I see that leading single and think its a ball Iglesias would have gotten. I think that all the time. And I crazy?

Gomes obviously has enrolled in the Jose Iglesias school of ball striking.

Ellsbury's got such a weak arm. How does Jose Molina score on you from 2nd on a single?

Jenny Dell is insanely hot. I lost respect for her when she didn't join the fight against the Rays last week. All talk no action.

I noticed it a couple months ago. I was hoping it wasn't anything serious but I'm starting to get worried.... She probably lost all her trade value.

So much for the sweep. Meanwhile, Baltimore took 3/4 from Boston and 2/3 from Detroit this week. If Sox aren't careful they're going to be looking up next week instead of down on the division. And if the Orioles (or the Sox) somehow snag Lee or Shields before the deadline, that could constitute a decisive difference with 12 games between them left to play- including the last 3 regular season games of the year (away, of course). So far, 5 of the 7 games have been decided by 2 or fewer runs. Sox have only won 2 of the 7 games the teams have played against each other this year.
Looks like summer showed up right on tiime, and this all just became very interesting.
Here's to finishing the second half 3 up with 2 to play.

I really don't understand what all the fuss is about with those two. I'd rather have someone out there that actually knows what they're talking about.
