And, Ellsbury hits into his 8th double play of the year. How is that possible?

And, Ellsbury hits into his 8th double play of the year. How is that possible? He's slow out of the box and grounds it to second all the time. Bad combo.

How about a run for Felix (game of his career)!
Great that Daniel had the line drive Hr but one more would be nice given the closer situation.

No more than 13 pitches in any single inning tonight for Felix. That's absolutely terrific for anyone, but it's incredible for Felix.
And there's another first pitch out! Would love to see him pitch a complete game shutout.

do they give him the ball next inning with under 100 pitches? Or do they give it to the 'closer'?

Gomes is a steamy pile of garbage. Is Mike Carp trapped under something heavy?

I don't want to see you-know-who in 9th. I know it won't go down well but I don't care. Please don't put him in Skip.

Gomes is a steamy pile of garbage. Is Mike Carp trapped under something heavy? They wanted to give him another day to rest the hammy. I really hope Doubront at least starts the inning, but it's looking unlikely. Fuck. Why couldn't Doubront just get a chance to go all the way until he got up to 110 or put a guy on. That just sucks.

I don't get why Felix doesn't throw 8 shutout innings every time out.
edit: Screw you Bailey. Let's up a bomb to a garbage hitter.

just replace him with tazawa, or uehara, or miller, or breslow, or anyone. At this rate we are going to overpay for yet another overrated closer and give up yet another quality starting player for yet another albatross in our bullpen.

Doubront deserved that win.
Getting tired of Bailey. Absolutely cannot trust him in a close game.

Inevitable outcome. What an awful decision. I mean, couldn't you just see that coming? Farrell's made some bad decisions with the bullpen, but that has to take the cake.

Trade for Jesse Crain. Him and Tazawa can duel for closer. Bailey was great as a set up man for us earlier this year. No excuse for Bailey sucking, but this is on Farrell in my opinion. Everyone knew we had a much bigger chance of blowing the lead if he made that change.

Bailey is just awful. Third game in a row he's doing his best to give away.

I've really been thinking that Miller should get a shot at this before they give away assets.
I don't believe Crain has a head for closing in a place where baseball has meaning, despite what Fangraphs says.

I don't believe Crain has a head for closing in a place where baseball has meaning, despite what Fangraphs says. Why? Just because he's only played for the Twins and White Sox? Closing or not, he's an asset to have. Who do you want in the role?

One of the most frustrating things is that I like to think of the Red Sox as a saber minded progressive team that works to find a competitive advantage. But then you see Farrell perpetuate the "closer" position and all the garbage aura that accompanies it. It's inexcusable and costs wins. I'm with Matt, this is on Farrell, it's his job to put his team in the best position to win, and he clearly pooped the bed on that account tonight.

Gomes is a steamy pile of garbage. Agreed. Get rid of him & bring up Brentz. 14 HRs & 49 RBIs SUCK IT!!!
