Updated predictions for the 2023 signing season. Not feeling as confident on Call as I was six hours ago. I probably have moved to "he's more likely to not sign" but it still would not be crazy. Will keep hope alive and leave him in this version. On the others, wouldn't be blown away if Zanetello was $2.1 million or $2.7 million. Also not sure on Anderson.
Top Ten Rounds (entire amount counts towards bonus cap) Round, Overall Pick, Player, Projected Bonus 1. Kyle Teel $4,200,000 - reported to already have an underslot deal 2. Nazzan Zanetello $2,300,000 - overslot deal, amount unclear, already in FTM 3. Antonio Anderson $1,800,000 - overslot deal, amount unclear, already in FTM 4. Matt Duffy $500,000 - reported to already have a slightly underslot deal, in FTM 4. Kristian Campbell $492,700 - should be signing this week if not already signed 4. Justin Riemer $200,000 5. Connelly Early $408,500 (signed) 6. CJ Weims $50,000 (signed) 7. Caden Rose $150,000 (signed) 8. Trennor O'Donnell $50,000 (signed) 9. Blake Wehunt $100,000 (signed) 10. Ryan Ammons $50,000 (signed)
After 10th round, above $150K 15. Phoenix Call $600,000 ($450k counts against the cap) - closest "call"
After 10th round, possible $150K or less signs (count $0 towards cap) 11. Nelly Taylor - in FTM, signing imminent 12. Max Carlson 13. Cade Feeney (signed for $150k) 14. Jojo Ingrassia - Fullerton's twitter feed has a graphic saying Ingrasia is "Boston Bound", may or may not mean something 16. Isaac Stebens 18. Zach Fogell - expected to sign this week 19. Stanley Tucker - blogger reported that Tucker stated that he intends to sign
Total spent towards cap using these projections: $10,751,200 Red Sox Cap: $10,295,100 Red Sox Cap +5%: (no draft pick penalty): $10,809,855
Super wicked early projected not to sign 17. Dylan Schlaegel 20. Robert Orloski - seems unlikely to sign; possible insurance in case something else goes sideways

Just checked, last year the draft started on Sunday, July 17 and the club announced 6 signings via press release on the morning of Tuesday, July 26. They then announced 12 more signings on the evening of Friday, July 29. If past is precedent, guessing we get some "official" news as early as today or tomorrow. Especially given the report that draftees started reporting yesterday and Zanetello is supposed to report today. Jim Callis or others might also beat the official news to the punch.
Also a reminder that the draft signing deadline is actually July 25 - a week from tomorrow. Pretty short window. Also I think technically they will need to sequence the signings such that the underslot top 10 round draftees sign before the draftees receiving overslot bonuses.

After the draft, Pearson said he thinks the club is going to miss "at most 3-4 guys." (Note that I'm pretty sure they said something like that last year and only left 2 picks unsigned). IMO Oroski and Schlaegel are the top candidates to not sign, they seem like insurance picks. Call is obviously not clear, but like I said I'm cautiously optimistic. As I'm doing research today I just found a blog reporting that Tucker said that he plans to sign with the Red Sox. I can't speak to the reliability of the source but I might switch Tucker back to the other section.

Updated "super wicked early speculative gut-check predictions" for the 2023 signing season. I'm personally still cautiously optimistic on signing Call, but I recognize that not everyone feels that way.

Nazzan Zanetello $2,300,000 - reported to already have an overslot deal, in Boston, reporting on Monday 3. Antonio Anderson $2,000,000 - likely an overslot deal, unclear how much, in Boston, likely reporting next week 4. Matt Duffy $500,000 - reported to already have a slightly underslot deal 4. Kristian Campbell $492,700 - signing 4. Justin Riemer $200,000 5. Connelly Early $150,000 6. CJ Weims $50,000 (signed) 7. Caden Rose $150,000 (signed) 8. Trennor O'Donnell $50,000 (signed) 9. Reminder on two new rules: Going forward, draftees who sign at 19 or older will be eligible for minor league free agency after six seasons. Previously, all minor league players regardless of age had to play seven seasons before they reached minor league free agency. As part of the new agreement, MLB will have the right to cut the number of minor league players per org (the Domestic Reserve List) to 165 from the current 180. This only applies to players in the US. Players at Dominican Republic complexes are counted separately. Source: www.baseballamerica.com/stories/mlb-minor-league-players-reach-deal-on-first-milb-cba/

Here are my "super wicked early speculative gut-check predictions" for the 2023 signing season. I don't have any inside info behind this yet, these predictions are just based on gut feel and years of history of making these projections and the little bits of news that have already leaed out. These initial guesstimates have been fairly solid in years past, but they're just that - projections with a significant amount of possible variability. Feedback is welcome and appreciated. I will update from time to time as more info comes in and as opinions evolve.
Top Ten Rounds (entire amount counts towards bonus cap) Round, Overall Pick, Player, Projected Bonus 1. Kyle Teel $4,250,000 2. Nazzan Zanetello $2,500,000 3. Antonio Anderson $2,000,000 4. Blake Wehunt $30,000 10. Ryan Ammons $10,000
After 10th round, above $150K 11. Nelly Taylor $300,000 ($150k counts against the cap) 15. Phoenix Call $600,000 ($450k counts against the cap) (closest call)

Twitter has been non responsive but it's an issue for all users. Not a verification thing. Giving it more time and hoping Twitter comes to its senses.

Still no luck with the embedded timeline. Lots of other frustrated content providers and users.

Yes we are looking into it. The feature is called Embedded Timeline. It's generally been down for several users for 3-4 hours now. Hopefully it's a temporary glitch. It might also be Elon's means to get more users to sign up for Twitter Blue, but there hasn't been any announcement or communication indicating that embedded timelines will require verification. We'll see, but I suspect it won't be resolved overnight.

Hello forum members! Happy Rookie Ball Opening Day! Now that the minor league season is fully underway, we're asking for your help to raise $9,000 to keep SoxProspects.com running on all cylinders. We have kept the site free for almost 20 years now, and we hope to do so for the foreseeable future. As we scout dozens of games first-hand each year, travel costs pile up. Our other costs to run the site often go up on an annual basis as well, and our ad revenue only covers a portion of those costs. So we're reaching out to the community to ask for donations to help us keep the site going. Donations help cover site costs in two primary areas: (1) first-hand coverage travel costs for scouting; and (2) general IT costs such as hardware, software, internet costs, and hosting fees. Your donations help us travel to Ft. Myers in March to cover spring training, which is vital to get “one-stop shopping” for prospects across the system at levels we can’t see regularly. They also help cover the costs of travelling to affiliate games for regular first-hand coverage. We anticipate that our total costs will exceed $20,000 in 2023. While we should cover some of that from other sources, your donations help us ensure we can cover those costs in order to keep the site going. In recent years, readers have made donations ranging from $5 to $250 to help defray these costs. We ultimately raised about $9,000 in connection with our 2022 drive. Thanks so much to everyone who chipped in! While we've remained free, other prospect sites charge for content. For example, Baseball America charges about $100 per year for a digital subscription. We think that site is great and absolutely worthy of a subscription, we have one! We’d like to think that our content would be worthy of comparable rates if we ever decided to go that route, but we've decided that we want to keep the site running for free for as long as we can. Donations from regular readers go a long way towards making that happen. Ultimately, through about August 1 (the trade deadline), we are asking our readers to donate what they can to help keep SoxProspects.com free. If you want to donate, first, we want to thank you profusely – it’s truly appreciated! To donate, visit our DONATIONS PAGE. All payments are secured through PayPal, although you don’t need a PayPal account to contribute. Last, to any of our regular readers that are not members of the SoxProspects Forum, please sign up! We’d love to get some new members in on the discussion and some new ideas floated around during our peak season! As always, thanks to all of our readers for visiting the site and all of our forum members for posting! Sincerely, The SoxProspects.com Team
