Every year we under-estimate how much money the Red Sox have left to spend or over-estimate what it will take for these guys to sign. For these next 4 picks the Red Sox will likely have exact dollar figures and deals in place with the guys they pick. There are not a ton of sliders or significant over-slot guys, so I think we will continue to see kind of the "Best Available Signable" players picked with the next four picks, then in rounds 5-8/9 they can save a little bit of money to take one more swing in round 9/10 like last year.
I personally don't expect them to try and pick college seniors with their next couple picks. I think we will see two college and two high school players to round out the next two rounds and then the college seniors the next few rounds. I am excited about the haul they can land today.

Honest to go don't know how MLB Network keeps rolling Harold Reynolds out on the Draft. Not only is he obnoxious, he is ill-informed, and clueless. You can tell everyone on the set is annoyed by him.
Other than that an unbelievable first night of the draft!

This Nazzan Zanetello seems like a really special kid. Who knows how he pans out on the field, seems like an A+ from a character standpoint.

Early impressions: Devin Pearson is killing his first draft. 4 picks in the next two rounds tomorrow and some more impact should be added to the system.

Dodgers with the first off the board pick.. Kendall George, OF.. Ranked #114 by BA, but most other publications have him in the 50-70 range.

In this pre-draft media session, Devin Pearson said while he was excited about #14, he was equally excited for pick #50 and said something along the lines of "we are going to get a very good player with that pick."
Very intrigued to see who they have targeted with that pick, but there is going to be a very good group to select from.

Tai Peete was never getting down the board to #50. Going to Seattle with the next pick along with Johnny Farmelo.

If the Red Sox want to go College Bat/Signable at #50 there are going to be a lot of very good players still left. Gelof, Hurley, Alderman, Honeyman, Groover, etc. Regardless, should get a very good prospect at 50.

Astros going with Brice Matthews, he's one of the college bats I would have loved at 50. Data darling.

Out of the first 26 Selections.. All of them are within the Baseball America Top 34. There are really no "sliders" and no teams cutting major underslot deals.
I think that speaks a lot to the depth of this draft and how good the players available are when teams are picking and should also mean the players available to the Red Sox should be quite predictable and should be able to sign for near slot or slightly over, unless they are deadset on college.

Chase Davis to St. Louis followed by Colt Emerson to Seattle per Longenhagen.

Can't ever argue with taking a consensus Top 8 prospect that falls to you at #14. Think Jason Groome and going back a little before that, to another C which slid to Boston in 3rd rd of 2013? Jon Denny. Not a fan of using a very high pick on any catcher. Hopefully this works out. There is always someone who is not pleased. Comparing the consensus top C in the draft to a Round 3, High School catcher is a little bit of a reach for me.

#50 should be interesting now. Do they pick the best available college player for slot value or try to go underslot to line up the next four selections in round 3 and 4.

Just a quick reminder, Langen had the Sox pick wrong intially last year. Said he was hearing Drew Gilbert before switching to Romero.
