That was first 90+ mph pitch. I get Bailey is great, but Booser throws gas and is not really using it.

Yeah, this lineup is not ideal. But if Duran, Ref, Abreu, Wong are all warm or hot, it can at least keep them afloat for a few games against mid teams.

Why is Yoshida not playing we have like three healthy hitters who are even average and he is one of them Hey, man, give him a day to enjoy being back at 0 WAR.

How often do managers not deflect with platitudes about waiting, we’ll see etc? This sounds bad.

He had it last year; that's how he became the 2nd best starting pitcher in MLB up to his injury, but just through the third inning. (After that he was 25th worst, out of 150).
The main difference: two winters ago he was unable to work out after having had surgery. Last winters he worked his butt off to increase his stamina, with a boost in velo as a bonus. The "times around the order" effect is, on the whole, entirely about stamina rather that pitch variety. (Think Justin Verlander, who in his 2022 CY year threw his #4 pitch, his change, twice a game.)
The new regime gave all of the starters individual workout plans, and everyone has had their pitch usage tweaked. The latter is the secondary change from last year
Houck and Crawford are serious CY candidates.
(Yes, I'll continue to point this out as long as its necessary! No shame to get it wrong, as that's what everyone has been taught.)
It's a completely different pitch this year, and he's throwing it more. He did not have this last year. I like yer style, dude.

I love giving Kutter the chance to finish this inning.

What I have loved about the Sox starters so far this season is they have not had their best stuff every start, but they’ve found a way.

So, can someone explain to me what happened with Kutter to go from swing man projections to staff ace? I get Houck had 2 phenomenal pitches and finally added a 3rd. What happened with Kutter? My sense with him is he attacks the zone (esp. up) with an above average fastball. It may not clock above average, but it gives batters a lot of trouble.

Today is as good a day as any for the Duran doubters to make a public apology. Well, Duran has really turned my thinking around about him, even in CF. As an act of public apology, I will anoint him as my new favorite player. ( post Verdugo departure). Because he it seems he is !!! Now that is a good apology. Larry David approved!

Everything else aside… Houck SO. Crawford dealing. Now 6 1-hit innings from Bello? The three home-grown musketeers. After decades of futility, they suddenly look like the Braves. You are referring, of course, to Spahn and Sain and Vern Bickford. Who else?

Thank God. After Bernardino, this was the 2nd most logical move to make on the pitching staff. Wait… I don’t follow this that closely… why are we thanking god for a 31-year old who was in the Indy league 2 years ago and had almost a 5 ERA last year? Not being snarky… I see he throws hard. Is something different?

Breslows says he doesn't think Pivetta will be out for much longer than the IL stint, if that. Called the strain "mild". The IL stint is retroactive to April 6th, so with no news yet about Pivetta's return it seems that progress here has been slower than the team anticipated... “Flexor strain” always sounds like the crack of doom to me. Obviously I hope I’m wrong, especially because Pivetta is on the cusp of a big payday.

That is the best Sox game I’ve watched in forever. Houck has given me a warm feeling.

This is the most impressive performance I’ve seen from a sox starter in a long time. The efficiency!!! And it comes at such a needed moment in the season. Is Tanner the ace?

Can't believe we got 6 years of control of Wong + 6 WAR from Verdugo + Fitts, Weissert, and that other guy I forget for just Mookie's covid season! Meh… I’d trade the whole package for “No, No Nanette”

Wong’s power never ceases to surprise me. He looks tiny, but he hits legitimate bombs.
