Almost every mock has the Sox going college OF. It seems like there’s a good chance one of them drops to our 2nd pick. With that being said, a high upside arm would interest me with our first rounder. I mentioned this a few weeks back and it was mentioned that if you're a team picking in the 20's and looking hitter then a College OF would probably be the pick. Anything can happen but judging by the rankings/mocks then there could be 6-8 of them picked in the back of the 1st/comp round. That said, to take Jones with players like Lesko and Brock Porter on the board would probably annoy me a bit Brock Jones he’ll no. I will start a riot in this mother father.

Need a thrid ss to emerge to recreate the ARod, Jeter, Nomar triumverate (and Nomah was better til the wrist injury). Ha! Was going to mention something similar but Lawlar is in the NL.

I saw on Twitter someone praising "Chaim" for the Mayer pick. Let's be real, he fell in the Sox lap. It was a no-brainer in these parts. There were some that wanted Lawlar, House or ever Sal Frelick (though that was with the notion that Mayer, Leiter and Davis would possibly not be there) but if taking a poll Mayer would have crushed it to near unanimous. There were rumors O's wanted Jobe so one of those players were likely to fall to us.
BTW, anyone else seeing what Lawlar is doing in Cali league? Lots of K's but he's slashing .350/.460l/.600 with 7 HR's. Nice comp #'s between the two. But I like our SS way better.

DeLauter please!
Also, if the Sox draft a college bat first I don't really care who it is. It'll be a good pickup. College bats are solid through 3 rounds so if they draft 4 straight college bats it'll be like 4 first rounders. Ok, not really but I'd be ok with it.

www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/2022-mlb-draft-top-prospects/I know it’s the bright shiny new toy in front of me but now I want the Sox to draft Robby Snelling. LH HS pitcher, big riser. 55 fast ball, 60 curve, 60 control, ……kinda a Groome clone in a way (kinda people). This guy is a much better athlete than Groome…so less of the….he’s gonna have to watch his fitness stuff (which turned true for Groome). My friend's son lives in Reno. Saw the kid on two occasions, most recently in May. Says man amongst boys. Everyone swinging late or just looking and walking back to dugout disgusted.

Some very good pitching matchups coming up. Looking forward to seeing Detmers. I hoped he would drop to the Sox but knew it wouldn't happen about a month or two before the draft.

Yay! We got an official start date for the DSL in the game day thread.
Can't wait to hear how Bleis will be doing in Florida within one week. Hope he maintains his status as a top 10 prospect.

That was like a Pedro game. Give up a bomb and then shut them down with no hope at any point.

Red Sox have shown interest in Liberty Union HS (OH) RHP Jacob Miller, who is currently #70 on BA's draft rankings ( link). Wow, that curveball has some serious depth to it. Must be fun to watch as a hitter. And all of his pitches have movement to them. Fastball isn't straight. Maybe he could get some more mph to it but that could make it more hittable.

My binky Walter Ford is now mocked to St. Louis at pick 22. I was hoping, back in the day, that he could be an option to the Sox with the Fabian pick. Looks like now he won't get out of the first and likely won't get to the Sox at 24. Though it is unlikely Sox take a HS pitcher with that 24th pick. However, stranger things have happened. Also, Sterlin Thompson looks to be a better hitting prospect than Fabian, without the K issues, a stat he's improved on since last season. Doesn't have the pop right now but he's a tall kid with good power potential. This draft looks loaded with college bats and maybe one slips to us (ahem, DeLauter...not a chance) that has some concerns right now.

We knew coming into the season that Portland lineup was bad but my god ,beside Hamilton, they're down right awful. Can't wait for Yorke/Binelas to get there. That pitching staff will keep that lineup in many games.

Because he is good lol. HS pitchers tend to go lower than their pre draft rankings due to signability and risk tolerance for teams. Walter Ford is like the youngest dude in the class throws hard already, throws a change up and is really athletic. Lots arrows pointing in the right direction. Yeah, thanks, I know he's good. It's why I brought it up a few months ago. I didn't really need an explanation on how good he is. He was ranked in the 50's or so last month or prior to that. Just curious as to why he jumped so high and so early in the rankings (he's pitched a bit over 20-25 innings). I haven't seen much news about it except the scouting reports about his stuff. I guess he had a ton of scouts seeing him this past weekend but read he wasn't at his best. So he must be killing so far this spring (nice be in Florida this time of year) and he'll still be 17 (I think) when he's drafted.

We need to add a college bat, or two, for the outfield in the draft. Like early. Thankfully, there are several options we could be looking at.

Jeter Downs. Wow! He must've had an alright spring for the Woos to bat him second.

What do people think of Devers’ defense this spring? His footwork has looked significantly smoother (which really was the culprit with his plethora of throwing errors). If he stays healthy I really could see a 7-8 WAR season in there if he eliminates the routine errors (we know what he can do with the bat) He’s not as fat so he can move a little better this spring. Just saying.
