What's up with Uehara's K rate? I remember him with Baltimore and didn't think he threw all that hard. I know you don't need a 98 mph heater to get swing and misses but that's just curious. His fly ball rate may cause some problems with the short (haha) left in Fenway. I hope he fares well. I see him as a 7th inning guy. We already have a few of those unless there are some trades in the works. Uehara is the fifth best relief pitcher in baseball over the last three years, and you think he's a 7th inning guy? He might not be the closer, but he instantly becomes the best reliever on the team. It's some big ifs but IF Bailey doesn't get traded and IF Bard returns to some form of his old self and IF Aceves isn't traded and isn't in the rotation then yeah, he's likely a 7th inning guy. Do you think they got him to close? I know his contract says otherwise but unless there are some trades and if all hope is lost with Bailey and Bard then most of his innings will be pitched in the 7th.

Quote from the predictions link, first post:
SCORING - 4 points per answer. You can get fractions of the 4 points for partially correct answers. Total of 100 possible points. For Questions 6 and 8, you get the point for being within 2 wins either way.
You are correct.
p.s. I think I only got 14 points...last place..kinda like the Sox.

The sad part is the Red Sox liked this kid & I believe they would've drafted him if KC didn't. He got like $2M from them. We got Renfroe for $1.4M.
I'd do this trade in a minute. I think he'll have an impact right away and not take 2 or 3 years to blossom. We need a big bat now and then plug in X-man when Ortiz moves on. Signing Hamilton wouldn't hurt the middle of the order either.

I've yet to see Webster pitch but it sounds like he's a no-brainer to make it to the bigs with a top tier team. Hopefully he'll be with the PawSox this year & I'll get a better looksee. But Barnes is the second coming of Matt Garza. We could use one of those, no? I'll eat my 7 year old (which will be 10 by then) propet shoe if the kid doesn't excel (injuries excluded). I'm glad the A's picked Sonny Gray and not Barnes. I haven't been this sure on a prospect since Buchholz (he let me down for a little while but he'll be back).

I believe Bobby Grich was a big dude and he played a lot of 2B. He may also have won a gold glove there, though I'm not sure if that was at second. It was a long time ago.

Here's a good video of Manny. I didn't see any HS videos of Manny to compare at the same age as Frazier but I just didn't have the time to really research it. I like Frazier also and he looks like he'll be a big power hitter. He's already compact so no wasted motion or loose parts.
Mind you, this video was Manny in his prime.

Ok, so Larry doesn't leak. You keep believing that pal. And sure, accusing once is enough so I'll be done with it. And no, I don't have proof. I have my opinion. Question: what's inherently wrong with leaks? Do you think a GM is going to stop doing business with the Red Sox, turning down what would be the best offer available in some situation, just because things might leak? He's not happy, but I think the chances are slim that the leaks have much of a material effect on anything. Just my opinion. I don't care about the leaks either but why is it always questioned where the leaks come from, ala Francona and pain killers. If it's not Larry then it's Larry's leak of choice. He has contacts in the media and he leaks stuff every year. Let's not pretend like we don't know who it is. No, like I said, I don't know for sure nor do I have proof, just an opion which is totally on-base.

Eli Wallach is still alive, 96 years old, and yes, a fine choice for the Red Sox '13 manager. Damn, you're right. I re-played the last scene. "Blondie" didn't kill him! Still, he's probably too long in the tooth. haha..that's the first thing that popped into my head was Tuco saying "don't die on me Blondie". Anyways, I think Farrell gets fired and gets hired here or comes here for small compensation (Milb bullpen arm).

Ok, so 7 or 8 will do. I guess we'll be starting a 2013 draft thread early this year. As of now I'd like Clint Frazier, Ryne Stanek or Sean Manaea. All three could be gone by then. Darkhorse, if he stays healthy, is Whitson. I already seen people here bashing him so no need to start over. Let's see what he does next spring. He is from Florida after all. If Austin Wilson has a great spring then he'll do just fine, although his bonus demands may put a damper on a slot signing.

If the Sox have the 10th worst record, they would have the 11th pick (Pittsburgh inserted at 9). Would the pick be protected if they sign a tendered free agent? Read reply no. 84 above.

I say we punt if the player we pick wants over slot and he's not worth it, especially if the 2014 draft has more talent. So we get the 8th or 10th pick a year later. Not that big of deal if the talent is worth waiting for.

If Mark Appel gets picked by the Sox and doesn't sign, we get 2 top 10 picks next year ;D
Anyways, I'd like a college pitcher or a toolsy outfielder, like a Mike Trout. Yeah, that's the ticket.
The schedule isn't friendly and here's to hoping the Sox try to give more playing time to the young kids and Bobby V only playing 8 players (Iglesias can cover the whole left side) while also having the pitcher bat.
