Peter Gammons ?@pgammo 15m Note to my friend Ryan Hathaway:17 yr. old 3B Rafael Devers taking .442/.537/.814 to Gulf Coast League. And then to Lowell by the middle of July (j/k). That is a sick line, I don't care where you play. 3 bombs to boot. I'm just glad this kid is living up to the hype so far.

Chris Crawford of MLB Draft Insider (also covers the draft for ESPN) posted his new mock yesterday: He does it percentage style: Derek Hill, 20% chance Marcus Wilson, 20% Monte Harrison, 15% Chase Vallot, 15% Jeff Hoffman, 10% Surprise pick, 20% mlbdraftinsider.com/the-mock/Way to go out on a limb and actually pick one player. And I love the "surprise pick, 20%". So whomever the Sox pick he'll likely be right.

Draft picks are more valuable now under the new rules. You lose not just the pick, but the bonus money associated with the pick. But even given that I agree with you. Why waste time fooling around when the playoffs are at stake? Why make baseball decisions because you don't want to give up your 2nd round pick? When you're as good as the Yankees are at producing major league talents via the draft, you can't just throw those things away. Yeah, I don't really understand why teams in win-now mode are worried about a pick that won't even play in a full season league until 2015. Are the Yankees really in a position to worry about the kind of cost-controlled talent they'll have on the major league roster in 2017? They're probably more worried about the cost controlled talent on the Red Sox roster, given that they'll get a top 40 pick for Drew if he signs now.

Who ever it is, it is. I think we'll get two good players either way. It's funny tho how BA mocks two bats going to the Sox. Maybe you'll get your wish

If they are going pitching heavy in IFA maybe they go hitter heavy in the draft. I doubt if that will have a draft effect. I think they will just go for the best player available who is 5' 9". Besides, this draft isn't exactly "hitter heavy". BPA all the way! If it's a pitcher with the first two picks, so be it. The Sox do like to approach the draft like a devirsified portfolio.

Well it would make of a difference if he was pitching for the Rays and had to face the Sox lineup also. Now he gets to sit and watch this lineup dismantle other pitching staffs while he puts up a quality start.

I think BA starts their organizational top 10's around this time so look for the top 100 list in February. It'll be a while.

Mookie came in at 8th in the Sally League. For other guys here is a chat answer: I'm still very intrigued by Kukuk. Won't give up on my young Lester hopes. If he can repeat his delivery and cut down on his walks then he's a strong candidate to shoot up the prospect ladder, ala Mookie Betts. The power is there, as is his "developing" off-speed stuff.

Does Cecchini have a sickness for getting on base or what? It's like he's a base junkie (no pun intended).

Don't look at the GCL box score. Daniel Bard pitched. :/ Feel so bad for the guy.

The Sox won't pay him more than Pedey or Ortiz (yes, I know he's no longer in his prime, like Abreu) so forget the big contract for this guy...from the Sox anyways.

If he's in Haiti it may be quicker. I seem to recall that a few teams are about to get big TV deals in the next year or so, as well, so the playing field may not be as semi-clear as some are opining. Besides which there is less elite power than elite pitching in baseball right now so that incentive may be worth breaking the bank for a few others. So let's say teams with and potential need and the cash to spend $12-14M a year X 6 years on a 26 yr old 1st baseman/DH with 30+HR power - Boston, Texas, Atlanta, NY Mets, Seattle, Houston, St Louis, Baltimore (if they want to rotate him and Davis through DH, 1st), Minnesota., Chicago WS, Washington, and maybe even Pittsburgh if they want to spend some cash. And, I should add, NYY, esp if they re-calibrate their lux tax situation with an ARod suspension. Anyone else? Just read this on BA. Not saying it's a fact, but just saying: Abreu, a 26-year-old first baseman, has played professionally in Cuba since the 2003-04 season, so he will be able to sign as a free agent exempt from the international signing bonus pools, with a massive major league contract likely headed his way. That process could still take several months. Abreu will have to establish residency in another country, have Major League Baseball declare him a free agent and the U.S. government’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) clear him to sign, but interest in Abreu should be fierce and should have a major impact on this offseason’s free agent market. rest of article: www.baseballamerica.com/majors/cuban-star-jose-abreu-leaves-cuba/

Webster had 95 pitches thru 5.1. Same issue. ... Both Ks and BBs burn through pitches, by definition. To be effective, a pitcher with dominating stuff like Webster has to either figure out how to get outs from contact consistently, or have good enough control to cut down the walks. Those are the goals if he's to go deeper into games. Sounds like someone we already know that is on our major league staff.

Xander needs more reps at 3B before he gets a call up to the bigs. I don't see it happening. He's just now catching fire at AAA. It's a lot of pressure for a 20 year to make a position switch and face major league pitching. And speaking of 3B, how many games has he played there this year? I don't remember it being more than 5 or so.

I think the Sox will put Ball out there for very shorts stints and tell him to let 'em rip. He'll hopefully dominate GCL, if that's where he's sent. Let's slot him in at number 8 or 9 on the rankings and send him to the Fort to see what he's got.

Thank you. Has Jonathan Singer gone AWOL? He's been suspended for 50 games due to PED use. He claims it was an excessive amount of caffeine due to so many games he has to post on a daily basis. He's in Mexico on a rehab assignment.

Serious question: Is Braden Shipley Clay Buchholz II?
Edit: minus the laptops, that is (sorry, Clay).
