Bogaerts lost out on EL Player of the Week somehow. Brandon Waring of Bowie hit .417/.548/1.083 with 5 HR to win. I guess I get it, but wow. I DON'T get it and WOW is right! He slugged a bit more but that's it. X was on fire but I guess X will win A LOT more player of the "fill in the blank" honors in the future than Mr. Waring will. Enjoy it for once.

I don't see how Ranaudo hasn't made any mentions on the hot sheet. To be fair the very first sentence in this thread is "Cecchini and Ranaudo made it this week." I don't think he made for two weeks straight since the May 3rd hot sheet. That is what I was referring to. I'm glad he's back on the list.

Sorry the correct answer is Jeff Suppan and Nomar Garciapara back in 1996.....not that bad of a haul.
Do you mean the Georgia Tech Nomar?

The DSL begins its season on Saturday. Is there any word on the roster yet?

This draft looks like it may fall to where the Sox have their choice of the top HS prospect. If it was clear who that was, he would likely be unavailable at 7. I think it's Kohl Stewart, the pick at 7 that is.

Those are some decent picks you have going to the MFY's, Adam. I don't like it.

Funny you say he should cut down his Ks. He has 18 SO on the year and 52 walks. Sorry, I meant to italicize that sentence. That is an amazing stat, considering his BB/game rate. That's Pedroia like while he was at ASU.

I see a John Olerud type career, as I think someone else mentioned, written all over Moran. I'd take that in a no.7 pick. He'll hit for more power than Olerud as the parks are smaller now a days. I just wish he'd cut down on this K's. I think he'll be gone by the seventh pick though. I think the Sox pick will be a shock to some people around here. Take your anti-anxiety medicine early that night. And look for a college reliever who'll be converted to starter with the second pick

I don't see how Ranaudo hasn't made any mentions on the hot sheet. Do the actual numbers not match up with the stuff he's had so far this year? He's had 3 outings where he's given up 0 runs.
I also almost throw up in my mouth every time I see Yelich on the list. *smh* I want a re-draft!! Just this once. It's not like I'm asking for Carlos Martinez's contract to be un-voided or something unreasonable.

"sarasoxer" What's an 'oxer' and why do you own one? Sarasoxer came about because I l live in Sarasota (Mainiac at birth) and the Sox high A team then playing in Sarasota, was dubbed the Sarasox. It's sad that you actually had to explain that tidbit.

I've waited months for Steven Wright, Drake Britton & Justin Haley to open the season? I protest!! I thought we had a deep farm system.

According to Huegels tweet on the staff feed Manuel said in a BA chat Swihart just missed the cut. I think he and Cechini will be up there next year. No prospect on the current list will likely graduate this year so we could be looking at 7 or 8 in the top 100 next year, with Xander at the top

Margot is one I'm looking forward too as well. I see him as possibly (and don't take this the wrong way) Xander light. He may be far off but I can see him being a top 5 prospect from relatively out of nowhere. I think of Margot as more of Jacoby light right now. I hope we get our Xander light through the draft: Frazier As for when the Margot preview will be posted, I think within a week or so. Usually the top prospects are the last ones previewed.

In the Herald today. bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox_mlb/boston_red_sox/2013/02/power_x_factor_xander_bogaerts"As a 19-year-old between high Single A and Double A last year, Bogaerts blasted 20 homers. That may not sound otherworldly, but it’s actually a magic number. Since 1995, only 37 teenagers have reached 20 homers in the minors (a handful did it twice), and many of them went on to become big league stars." If he played more games in 2011, when he hit 16 HR in only 72 games, he would've been part of the "a handful did it twice" club easily.

One of the great things about following these kids......is you just know several of them (each year) are going to "bust" out. Of the prospects mentioned above, these are the ones I believe will take off in 2013 and therefore jump our rankings: 6. Blake Swihart, c 15. Brian Johnson, lhp 20. Manuel Margot, of 26. Ty Buttrey, rhp 27. Cody Kukuk, lhp Our system, in my estimation, will be one of the top 6 or 7 by the end of September. These 5 prospects are my 5 "risers"! Where do you see Swihart rising with no one graduating, except De La Rosa, and with the no.7 pick coming? I do like Kukuk rising into the top 15.

Since we have such a high pick my guess would be around 4, depending on how the killer B's are performing. After that it all falls on the prospect after he is signed and plays at one of the affiliates. Let's hope he finishes the season second behind X-man.

If you look at his game logs with the Rangers, he had quality starts in 7 of his 12 starts. Look at his bad starts: a) 8/2 vs. LAA: gave up 5 runs in 2d inning, settled back down and pitched into the fifth. b) 8/13 vs. NYY: gave up 5 runs in the 3d inning, settled back down and pitched into the seventh. c) 9/18 vs LAA: Charged with 4 of 8 runs scored in the 4th. Chased. d) 10/3 vs. OAK: Charged with 4 of 6 runs scored in the 4th. Chased. So I'd say more that he may have been prone to the occasional big inning, which I'm not downplaying, but it's not like he was throwing soft toss for the entire time he was with the Rangers. I'd take 65 good innings and 4 awful ones myself. Edit: I tried to bold "so I'd say he may be prone to the occasional big inning", from Chris's post. He'll fit right in then. We needed someone to replace Dice-K. Seriously though, I think his durability and ability to pitch deep into games, even if he gives up 4-5 runs will be worth it and will help our bullpen in the long run. I don't see the Yankees wearing out our pitching as they have in the past. The other teams in the division are a little more free-swinging so if he keeps the ball in park I think we're good.

At least Wilson has a Stanford education to fall back on if MLB doesn't work out. I really like Bryant at our pick if we can't get a frontline pitcher or one of the HS bats (Meadows/Frazier). He crushed the ball last year. Should be interesting to follow this year.

Well yeah considering present 40 power translates to about 10-14 home runs, and he had 20 last year, it's just incorrect in the most basic way. Mayo's answer, which he mentioned on twitter in response to a complaint from me, is that by present power he means present power if he were in the big leagues now. Still not satisfying, but not quite so innumerate. Yeah, if he played in the big leagues this year he would hit about 14 hrs.

I don't know about Billy Hamilton at 11. I'm just not a believer he'll be an impact player. His speed is an 80 or whatever but he'll need to get on base A LOT. He has "0" power right now. That is a big reason why I don't think he should be no.11.
Also, Yelich was available when the Sox picked Vitek. I liked Yelich. Not to beat a dead horse or anything. Carry on.

The Sox system should definitely rank higher next year. We don't have too many prospects that will graduate. Maybe De La Rosa and Iglesias. Long shot would be Brentz. Iglesias and Brentz could even be traded. Let's hope the top prospects continue to improve and some lower level prospects shoot up the charts. It should be a good season to follow the prospects as the best ones are on the cusp and the players drafted/signed in the last two years should start showing something, good or bad.

I looked at it. All the mock drafts look about the same right now and will until at least April and May when HS starts up. But my question is: when did we get a "new GM"? Theo left? I know Ian doesn't' like Appel at all but if he has a very good season/playoffs and falls to 7 it wouldn't be the worse thing. We could get a high upside HS kid who doesn't make it out of AA. Appel could conceivably make it to the bigs next year (2014). I just don't think the Sox can blow this pick, even if they reach a little (doubtful), as long as it's not a Vitek type pick.

He will enter behind the top 3 most probably but we would need to know who it is first to make a realistic assessment. Well, one good thing about the new CBA is that we'll see this No. 7 pick in action this summer, unless he's hurt when signed, and hopefully he knocks our sox off. It'll be tough to squeeze into the top 3 but very possible. You probably have it right on as somewhere between 4 and 6 but if he has a Bundy-esque like debut top 3 is not out of the question.

I love what Sickles is selling here. I love Kukuk breakout star 2013. I love what he said that there is a second wave of high end talent here. On our team our top 20 is deep. I love that the DSL team is showing some good talent also.. I really like that second wave of potential as well. Interesting names from the Lowell/GCL/DSL rookie levels alone that I'll be following closely are: Montas Kukuk Mercedes Margot Lin Suarez Flores Heras Rijo Romero Pretty interesting already, and we haven't even factored in 2013 draft picks. That's like the fourth wave of potential you have listed there ;D

Arizona owner on our new SS. www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/2012/12/18/red-sox-sign-the-other-drew-shortstop-stephen/4FaHNWQXrI0Zty8NJ4xLGL/story.htmlKendrick, in a radio interview in June, thought Drew should have returned much sooner. “You know, I’m going to be real direct about Stephen. I think Stephen should have been out there playing before now. And, frankly, I for one am disappointed. I’m going to be real candid and say I think Stephen and his representatives are more focused on where Stephen is going to be a year from now than going out and supporting the team that’s paying his salary. All you can do is hope that the player is treating the situation with integrity, and, frankly, we have our concerns,” Kendrick said. Ah yes, we know the story all too well.
