I think the rbi's for Napoli is too high. His hitting with RISP last season was really weak and even though he got his finger and jaw fixed this offseason, I don't think we will see an improvement with RISP next season. Instead I just see the "K"'s continuing to rise, It has been his entire career. It's why I was against signing him to be a #4 or #5 batter to begin with. In 2013 (his best year) he hit 23 HRs in 498 ABs accounting for 43 of his 92 RBIs. In his other 475 ABs he had only 49 RBIs and left more RISP then any other player in MLB ( But won the World Series and that's AWSOME ). Last year he hit 17 HRs in 415 ABS accounting for 24 of his 55 RBIs. In the other 398 ABs he had only 31 RBIs. I don't think he is suited to be a 3 4 5 hitter I think his power and on base % is better in the 6th or 7th hole. So you might be right about my estimation of how many RBIs he might have hitting 6th behind Ramirez, Ortiz, Sandoval but I was also basing it on him getting closer to 525 ABs.

I like him. I was all for signing him when he was a free agent and I agree that his contract is very fair.

You gotta care about walks though. That's where Napoli kills him. I do. I'm just not sold on the idea that his walks translate into more runs or wins.

I don't know I think it'd be close. If either one were in the Red Sox line up with Ramirez hitting 3rd Ortiz 4th and Sandoval 5th followed by Cespedes or Napoli I would project. 2015 Cespedes NapoliAVG 260 255 RUNS 89 80 HR 24 26 RBI 100 75 SB 7 1 Nice choice of stats... Your welcome to include the stats that you would like. Do you think they still would not be close to the same player or do you believe one will have a better season then the other?

He’s far from the biggest name on the list of Red Sox targets but there are a numbers of points in his favor. The first of those factors is his age and remaining team control; the 26-year old Paxton does not become a free agent until after the 2019 season, which could allow him to be in the Red Sox’ rotation for years to come. In addition, he’s a hard-throwing left-hander and, if he can cut down on the walks with a slight uptick in strikeouts, there’s little doubt that Paxton has the stuff to be a frontline starter in the league. He broke into the majors with a strong cup of coffee in 2013, in which he posted a 1.50 ERA and went 3-0 in four starts. Paxton followed that debut with a solid, though injury-riddled, 2014 season which saw him go 6-4 with a 3.04 ERA, accompanied by an decent 3.28 FIP, 7.2 K/9, and 3.5 BB/9 in 13 starts for the M’s.
Cespedes for Paxton

I'd be fine with it just as is. Saves the Sox almost $10m. Keep Cespedes in LF. Ramirez to 1B.

Before I comment further on Napoli, I just want to be sure of something. This isn't the "Choose Your Adventure" thread right? I'm not saying I WANT to trade Napoli. I'm just trying to get in the heads of the FO. Given what we know: 1. Boston has added Sandoval and Ramirez at very high AAV 2. Boston STILL needs 2 SPs (and, at least, one of them will likely require more than just money to acquire) 3. They have other needs including the bullpen and have been rumored to be willing to offer Miller big money. 4. Victorino and Craig, 2 other possible trade candidates, are not going to get you full value given injury and performance issues (insert your joke here). 5. Even Cespedes' value is decreased by the inability to make the QO . . . trading Napoli is a real possibility. Not a wish. I'm not a mod and not trying to dictate what goes in each thread. Just trying to explain my usage. I agree And packaging him with a prospect could possibly net the best SP deal

This could be a silly question but I have noticed while reading some of the current scouting reports the phrase "projectable frame" (Josh Ockimey"), "projectable right hander" (Kevin Steen), & "projectable pitchers frame" (Michael Kopech) used. What is meant by "projectable" in these instances?

I don't think Chicago is willing to move him. I actually think they are a sleeper to sign Lester

Walker is too unproven to be the Sox target. I'm not saying he's a bad get but he better be the third starter added not a top 2 guys. Yes, I'm saying the Red Sox do this after they sign Lester & have traded Owens, Betts & Swihart for Cole Hamels. Making it:Lester Hamels Buchholz Kelly Competition C - Vazquez 1B - Craig/Francisco/Nava 2B - Pedroia SS - Bogaerts 3B - Sandoval LF - Ramirez CF - Castillo RF - Victorino/Holt DH - Ortiz

Seattle needs bats and with the signing of Ramirez & Sandoval I think we have a few to spare.
Napoli, Cespedes, Workman & Mike Miller to Seattle for Taijuan Walker

I don't think there is any possible way you can say that 4 guaranteed years was expected for Hanley Ramirez. MLBTR’s Zach Links projected Ramirez would get a six-year, $132MM deal, so the reported total of his pact with Boston lags behind in both years and dollars.

Do you think that's the home town discount price or the real market value? I think it is the market value for Lester. If he were two or three years younger, I could see him get even more. If the Sox get him for six years at $130, as rumored, they will be doing well in this market. I'm starting to think that the real market for Lester is 7yrs for $189 and wouldn't be surprised if it was more.

If Sandoval & Ramirez are both signed I can see moving on from Cespedes, Napoli & Victorino all of whom are on 1yr deals and 2 of which can be extended qualifying offers.

The market sure has changed in 2 years. It was only 2 years ago that it seemed like the Red Sox overpaid for Napoli & Victorino at $13m per year then last year it went up to $16m per for Napoli. Zack Greinke signed 2 years ago for ages 29-34 for 6 years @ $159 with an opt out after the 3rd year (2015). Now Ramirez & Sandoval are getting $20m + per year. Makes me re think what the market really is for Lester for age 31+.
