I don't understand how Marcelo Mayer is rated as the 9th best player in MLB's ranking but Yorke cannot be found on that list.

Could Devlin Granberg or Joe Davis be the next Jeff Bagwell? Both were under the radar draft picks and both are excelling.

I’d sign up for that. To me 1B very well could be the top priority since we could have help on the way at the other spots. Eye-popping fact, Casas could be ready by the end of the year.

His numbers are eye-popping. Is he just an organization piece or is there more ther? Did you use "eye-popping" because... never mind Yes

I'm not terribly excited about signing JDM. I think he will produce but 5 years @ 25 will handicap the sox with some very good FA's that will be available in the next few years. There is also the possible fall off in production in the last few years of his contract as he gets older. My thought was Logan Morrison on a pillow contract coupled with ramirez may be an option at DH and 1B. split ramirez and morrison as a left/right combo at DH and Morrison splitting with moreland will allow for another left / right platoon at 1st base. As a side bonus it will keep rameriz under the at bats required for his option to kick in. If ramirez does not respond maybe Brentz can be the Right handed DH option.

When comparing Brentz and Barfield keep in mind that they are only a year apart in age. Both might be lost next year if not protected. Though they are in different levels, Barfield seems to be having a slightly better year statistically than Brentz though both are pistol hot right now.

The Sox will have 7 openings on the 40-man at the end of this season with Chris Young, Fernando Abad, Mitch Moreland, Blaine Boyer, Doug Fister, Eduardo Nunez, and Addison Reed hitting Free Agency. Stephen Wright, Robbie Ross, Carson Smith, Roenis Elias, Tyler Thornburg, and Josh Rutledge will all have to be added once they return from the DL. There are also a number of prospects eligible for the Rule 5 draft in December that could be added. Who do you think will be added and how many spots will be left to sign free agents? Wright and Thornburg should still be on the disabled list.

The sox are bereft of power at 1st Travis has not demonstrated any power and Ockimy is to far away.). Could Brentz be converted to 1B?

Yes Jessie's kid. I see an evolving story. failed after being drafted. Found himself in the independent league and is now mashing in Portland. I know he is in his late 20's but will there be more to this story other than a trip to Japan.

With Chavis seemingly breaking out as a good hit third baseman, I'm fearful that Dombrowski will do what he does best and trade Devers (ouch). I don't think Dombrowski will be satisfied unless he trades all RS top 100 prospects.

Actually, we might want to consider moving him to 1B to preserve his bat. He will be Papi's replacement! papi signed as an unheralded free agent - leon signed as an unheralded free agent. Is this deja vu all over again?

I've seen him play a few times and he seems to be a toolsy interesting piece beyond his baseball DNA. .. Should he now be classified as a pre top prospect.

Both players seem to have found themselves in the small sample of the current year. As typical of kids drafted out of HS it takes a year or 2 to adjust to proball. Both seem to be able to connect on fastballs and both seem to have some difficulty with breaking and offspeed pitches. Which one has the best chance adapting to non fastballs and adjust as they move higher in the organization.

I'll go Cosart and Ramirez for double digits, and Glorious as the 7 spot jump. I'll add my other brother Luis (Alejandro) as a sleeper. Nice call on Luis Alejandro. Or maybe the twins are playing tricks on us?

I looked at video samples of his first 75 at bats and his last 75. There is no comparison. His timing during the first 75 at bats was obvious rust. I would not be surprised if he finishes next year in Pawtucket.

Baseball is a game of chess planning several moves in advance. Had the Sox not traded for Peavy we would have had the all star shortstop and be calling up Frank Montas, of the 100 MPH fastball rather than signing Balisario.

Isn't there a preclusion on trading first year players? I think only players acquired through the draft.

Witte has been discussed on the last two SoxProspects podcasts. In short: long swing, muddling batspeed, limited power ceiling, fringy defender. Scouts almost uniformly don't think he has much potential, which is a big red flag. That is why I suggested he move along to AAA so the sox can figure out if there really is something there. Shaw is not exactly killing the ball in Pawtucket. Even if his hitting is relegated to singles and doubles with fringy defense he still conjures up images of another similar hitter from AAA in days past who more than succeeded in the majors. .

Kevin Youkilis was drafted in the 8th round. On the other hand so was Senquez Golson who was an extreme project.

Since there are both in AA ball,I was comparing Wittes numbers with Aaron Judge. Other than HR power there is not seem to much difference in hitting ability. Judge is listed in the top 100 prospects in most polls and Witte does not seem to be on anyones top prospect radar. There is a few years difference in age, Judge was drafted in the first round and a ton of difference in size. Are these the difference in the ranking disparity?

Th Sox must have had extreme of confidence in his hitting ability drafting him in the 8th round as a man without a position. He moved from the outfield in college to a very demanding position behind the plate?
