To me Stanek resembles Wacha of last year who turned out to be a major co[up] for the Cardinals. Holy fast track Cardinals. Rookie league to AAA in less than one calendar year? Looks like he left the strikeouts in Springfield though.

Eh, it's one game from a rook. Momma said there'll be days like this.

Hey guys, remember when we got excited about the Red Sox hot start? That was cool. Yeah, how silly of us to get excited about that ~30 game sample? The past 10 are obviously more indicative of the teams true talent level!

I could be wrong but it seems like the two pitches seem to be referred to (in the case of many pitchers) as simply a "breaking ball", not quite a traditional curve nor a slider, sort of in between with some vertical break and horizontal break. Some pitchers have old fashioned 12-6 curves ( Darvish) and some have legit sliders ( Matt Harvey)

Wacky fact: Mookie Betts has as more walks in his last ten games as Will Middlebrooks has had in his entire major league career.

Now what will distract me from this paper?
Honestly, day/morning minor league ball is one of my favorite things about the spring/summer.

Doubront has basically been dreadful since August of last year. Walks are up, hits are up, now velocity is down. I really don't see the harm in skipping some starts and altering his training methods in an attempt to get him back to where he was in the first half of last year. Yes he's striking people out, but that's really all he's doing well any more.
By taking him out of the rotation instead of demoting him you're tell him (and the league) there are simply things we're trying to fix, not that he's lost it and is hurting the club. We'll see how often he is used out of the pen and in what role. Until then we can't really say that they're ruining his development.
And guidas, I really don't see the parallel with Bard. . . other than that they're both pitchers who have struggled as starters in the bigs.

It's tough to tell a kid to take more pitches when he's got 6 home runs in his last 10 games.

I know he's slouching a little, but doesn't Frazier look five and not three inches shorter than Meadows in this pic? They are listed as 6' and 6' 3" /photo/1 Good lord, one of those guys looks like a first round draft pick, the other looks like his scrappy pal that draws up the game winning trick play.

De La Torre's first four appearances: 8 2/3 innings, 7 walks 9k's.
Since then, 8 2/3 innings, 3 walks, 8k's.
If he were on the 40-man I'd say he should be the next reliever up.

Salty, Middlebrooks, Drew.
Just as Farrel planned all along.
So glad not to have to read the "gutless" posts tonight.

Pathetic performance by Buchholz. Soft doesn't even begin to describe it. I really hope you just forgot to italicize.

Rubby goes 56 seemingly impressive pitches (so much for that 70-75, maybe he got tired?), gives way to Chris Hernandez again in relief.

I can't wait until Webster's next start, when hopefully this thread won't be a discussion of NESN's finances.

Wait. . . so the Sox weren't going to win 70% of their games?
The bats are slumping and Texas is very good. I'm not going to say they "need" to go out and get anything, or that Saltalamacchia is awful and needs to be drawn and quartered (seriously though, is that same exact post going to pop up every other game? He's not the best, we get it).

You forgot the most important thing: The Sox cared much less about getting players or prospects than getting rid of a half billion dollars in salary obligations that would hamstring them for the foreseeable future. Getting LA to pick up those salaries in effect gave the Sox a "do over" on the poor contract obligations they had taken on. Any players received in return were just gravy. The fact that Rubby and Webster have high upsides is simply a remarkable bonus. You don't know that though. That's speculation. Crawford looked bad, but a .785 OPS when he was healthy enough to play last year. The contract was scary and I wasn't sad to see him go,but he was a year removed from being a 7 win player. Adrian hadn't put up the gaudy power numbers we expected, but again, was a year removed from being a 7 win player with a Gold Glove. They weren't dumping scrubs. Except for Beckett, who is cooked. But at the time he was. . . wait for it. . . a year removed from being a 6 win player. Fact is the Red Sox cashed in those chips at their lowest value, but those chips had value. This wasn't Gilbert Arenas they were trading.

It's okay. There has been a real shortage of Hanks in the game since Blalock left.
EDIT: Forgot about Hank Conger.

I have MLB TV so it's hard to complain, but the Sox have rarely been televised this season I believe. I understand they're coming off their worst season in 40+ years, but there's no reason Sunday night baseball should feature Dodgers vs Giants as opposed to a matchup between the two winningest teams, especially when it's Lester vs Darvish... Us Red Sox fans have been a little spoiled in the past 10 years or so, I was surprised and honestly excited to see Braves-Nats get prime time national coverage on ESPN on back to back nights recently. And to be fair, the Giants are reigning WS champs and the Dodgers are reigning Hot Stove champs.
