Wow those are some ugly swings from WMB and XB before XB hit that ball to Agon. All three AB were hard hit by XB today. Seems he is slowly getting comfortable.

Might be more than 4.. Think 4 of them were Dutch, Spanish, English and French though that are spoken on Arubu, or were at one time or another. Never had the pleasure of visiting Arubu when was in the Navy many years ago as it had no USN base, nor US military presence way back then as did many other Caribbean nations. I dont think he speaks French. Its English, Spanish, Dutch and Papiamento.

Skipped..... Moving a 2B to an OF corner is exactly the same, in terms of lost offensive value, as moving a 3B to 1B -- 11.5 R/150. That's pretty substantial. However, you're likely to recover some of that by improved defense. ......Skipped I understand the theoretical concept and the idea that if you didn't have to field a lesser offensive player for a position you could potentially find a player that can play at or above the offensive level for that position. But if you are trading a 2B player for a OF player with equivalent offensive production vs you are moving said 2B player to an OF position and he continues to put up the same stats, what offensive value will you lose? Since that "other" player may not be available in all cases I wonder the practical value of this "loss of offensive value" theory. Can any one point me to a link that talks about it in a practical sense?

Owens seems to have flipped the script between SO and BB.

I understand Ellsbury is a dynamic player and hit 32HR once and may have potential to hit 20HR. However 2011 is the one and only year Ellsbury has ever hit more than 10HR. At this point for whatever reasons he has not reached that potential in other years and may be 2011 is the outlier.
Bradley has not hit in majors (SS) so far but he has shown better track record in the minors. He hit 9HR last year and 10HR this year so far while putting up .872OPS in AAA. He is an excellent defender and has plus arm. Hopefully teams will not run from 1B-3B on singles to CF as often as they do now.
I am in the camp of letting Ellsbury go and allocate that money to plug other holes. This is exactly the situation where you let your expensive FA's leave and let your prospect take over.

And hopefully won't get overused like Tanana was and become a junk-ball pitcher. But in this generation, pitchers rarely get overused. I think Owens has a very high ceiling and with the way he is dominating Double-A right now, I think he could be in Boston by the end of next year. I read an article that compared him with David Price. Impossible to complain with that if he reaches potential like that. Their fastballs are miles apart at this point but if he can be as good as Price it would be awsome. Can you link the article you are talking about?

Not defending Dempster but if that is assault and battery then a runner running in to a player to breakup a DP or a runner running over the catcher is also assault. Baseball is a violent game.

Can some one feed HO whatever he needs to add 2-3MPH on his Heater. I don't think I remember seeing a better season from a Sox prospect in a while as far as SO are concerned. He is not giving up hits either. If he can command his Heater, we might have a Johan Santana (because of his change up) on our hand.

I am not really sure how the fWAR is computed but if you add up the fWAR of all the players that played on a team, will it be equal to that teams win total for the year?

Jesus another boneheaded move by Farrell. As soon as Encarncion steals second you walk Lawrie. Get the force at all bases. I disagree. Lowrie looked terrible. A good pitch and he could have been struck out. If you walk the bases loaded with one out. You have to bring Britton in to face the lefty with no wiggle room. I'd rather have Workman trying to strike Lawrie out. Oh, and Workman has been a starter. He only pitched 2 2/3 innings. There was nothing wrong with him starting the inning. He hung a curte to Davis. The only other right is Ruby. You'd rather have him facing four straight righties; Davis, Joey Bats, Encarnacion and Lawrie than Workman?? Please. He pitched on 8/6 (91 pitches), 8/10 (20 pitches) and 8/14 (55 pitches). Even though he is starter, he is not pitching on starter schedule. I felt it was asking for trouble and it ended up as such.

LOL at Workman for letting Encarnacion waltz into 2nd base. That was a double-play ball, too. Yet another brutal loss. How did this happen. Following it on yahoo and I thought 1st and 2nd were occupied. Was it a double steal?

Right when you think SEA can hold on Zobrist triples with no outs in bottom 9th.

Why is Workman still pitching? These extra inning games are killing the bullpen.
Edit: And there the double and continuing to pitch. Don't like this move. Hope it works

Jacoby will sign a deal closer or over 100m and I don't see Sox offering such a deal to him. I think MFY is on suitor for him. For folks down on JBJ, remember that Jacoby had a 280/336/394/729 and 301/355/415/770 line in his first two full seasons. If you see JBJ close to that line with similar or better defense then you have a viable alternative for cheaper dollars. IIRC those two years most wanted Jacoby to bat at the bottom half because of his low OBP for a leadoff hitter. I think JBJ will do well even if he struggles at times.
Do you know if Sox can offer Drew a QO? I don't remember if it was Drew or some one else signed with Sox with the "handshake" understanding they wont offer him a QO after the year. If they can offer him a QO, they should and decide based on whether he accepts or not.

You guys are in luck. I saw Owens last week in Portland and have written him up for tomorrow's Scouting Scratch column. Ian, Owens had two games at AA with his performance in the first game being really good and the second game being good. As a scout, how does the game in which you saw him (if you saw him in the first game but not the second game or vice versa) impact your opinion/narrative? Is it possible to add your thoughts on that or information you gathered from talking to other scouts who saw both games etc?

At this point the most likely scenario for Xander is a September call up. Sox will make sure there is spot for him on the Post season roster if he performs well. Assuming he don't suck in spring training next year, he will start the season with the big club. If WMB sucks it up in the next few weeks then Xander will take over 3B. I am assuming he will get more reps at 3B in AAA now. What if WMB doesn't suck? If WMB does not suck the only other spot he can play is SS and unless Drew gets injured or hit below 0.200 the next month its unlikely Xander plays in Postseason.

Even if they DFA snyder, how likely is it Sox will lose him? Can he clear waivers and get assigned to PawSox?

What is the earliest date Xander could be called up and not qualify for super 2 (essentially giving Sox as many years of control as possible) assuming he sticks with the Sox until he becomes a FA?
Edit: Temple you are right. I think we can take Will Myers promotion as an example

To me I have been listening about Xander and I don't buy the fact he isn't ready because your telling me you'd rather have Holt and Synder with the Sox? And there more ready to be playing for the team? Give me a break. Every game is huge. There just getting no power from that position. I actually wanted more, I wanted Xander at ss and MLB AT 3b. I want to see what they could do for the rest of August to evalute my team. In the meantime games are coming and going. What there scared to lose Synder? Come on! Redsox probably know what they have in WMB and XB. I dont think they need a small sample like August to determine that. As for the last few pages of this thread, just trust the RedSox FO on its handling of XB, sit back and enjoy. Message board postings or articles written is not going to change their thought process.

Doesn't look like it will happen. Yeah, 6th inning of a 1 run game against the worst team in baseball and their approaching crappy Jose Veras-less bullpen. Definitely over. Too much of a stretch. where did you see that I said its definitely over?

Seems like dog days of summer and every one just killing time for October. Instead of his nick name, lets talk about whether he can pull quality offerings on his inner half or not like they exposed Jackie Bradley.

Just noticed that my article from SportsReel was posted on here! Thanks for reading it. Xander is one of the friendliest athletes I've ever talked to. He pulled out a chair for me and held the door (which is miles above anything any athletes has done for me before an interview). Family is great and friendly. Was an honor to write his story. One of my favorite stories to write. Excellent article Joon Lee and thank you for bringing it to us. Hopefully we will see more from you here.

Some one in the know can correct me if I am wrong, but when Xander got promoted to Greenville and Jair was left back in DSL, I read somewhere that separation actually helped him concentrate on baseball quickening his progression.
