So, Ock/Travis platoon at first next year? No way. Not sold on either being capable hitters in the MLB. Castellanos seems to kill lefties. The Tigers didnt give him much run ,if any, run at 1st base. He might be a good add as a DH/1st base platoon. Those hit, no position type of players have found rough sledding in free agency. He might not cost a lot. Really interesting if JD does opt out.

Javier Baez tries batting lefty once against a position player, and his swing didn't look awful lol. On MLB radio this morning I heard that he's a natural lethander. The Cubs are encouraging him to play winter ball to bat from the left side. Apparently he takes swings from the left side during batting practice.

Why do you think we might lose Workman. According to 40 man roster here he is arb. eligible for one more year.

I put the kids to bed and checked the forum around 9:00 and knew the game was going well because the gameday thread was only two pages long. When we only have 2 hrs and 16 minutes of game time, it's tough to have anyone go to far afield.

Does McGrath's status make him an option for a major league deal and a spot on the 40 player for at least next year to see if he's for real at AAA?

Part of Shaughnessy's argument is that dombrowsk only has one year to go on his contract and that Henry at 1 time said he wouldn't want GM with in a lame duck year.
We all agree on Shaughnessy credibilty.

I was just wondering how the Dodgers approached this season. they have not skipped a beat this year and if memory serves me correct, they were in it until the end last year. I guess you could point to the slow walking in spring training to be a big part f the failures this year, but I don't know. Cora has failed, Dombrowski has failed or maybe its just karma this year...Who knows? Houston only played five fewer games, and won the WS the year before and reached the ALCS in 2018. If Dombrowski is let go I would hire the #2 and #3 guys as President and GM respectively and let them go to work. The #2 guy is already in Baltimore along with their leading tech guy.

Shaughnessy has written that Dombrowski may take the hit for this year's failure. In the article he claims that DD has become more withdrawn amd only hangs out with cronies. No other friends in Fenway. Says he'll take hit for Eovaldi and Sale contracts and failure of bullpen. He predicts that Romero will be successor.

Go Sox.
My biggest problem with O'Brien is his refusal to use any of the currently accepted measures of good performance. With pitchers it's wins. With hitters it's BA and rbi.

Price's performance in last 10 starts: 45.1 innings,.900 OPSagainst and 6.55 era. Since his Eck attack 4 starts, 20 runs in 17 starts. He shoulders plenty of blame. I was kidding. Mirth is good medicine as one approaches the gallows. I knew you were kidding but now that I've confessed my dislike of Price I cant stop pointing out his poor stats.👍

You can't blame Price. He was not at yesterday's players only team meeting. Price's performance in last 10 starts: 45.1 innings,.900 OPSagainst and 6.55 era. Since his Eck attack 4 starts, 20 runs in 17 starts. He shoulders plenty of blame.

Definitely time to pull the plug. Whoever can come up for audition, let them come. Spend the rest of the season keeping guys healthy for next year. Skip starters. Sit relievers for stretches. Let the Josh Smiths or Webers throw out their arms, but don’t waste Workman, Barnes, er, maybe that’s it? At this point, you may as well tank and get as good a pick as possible. Never thought it would come to this. Come on folks. It's August 5th. If we fell out of it in one disastrous week we can get back in one in one great week, especially with KC and LAA at Fenway the next 7 games. Remember the 2017 Dodgers who had that bizarre stretch where they went 1-16 in August/September? They ended up in the World Series. Why not us, says me. I hope you get to tell us all "I told you so!"

I wouldn't add ERod. He hasn't stunk but for classifying as "pitched well" you should be at least under a 4 era. He only appears "well" because the others have been so lousy. Especially lately. And lately he had a nice run. But weren't we expecting better from ERod this year than a 4.19 era? At the start of the season he was our fifth starter behind Sale,Price, Eovaldi and Porcello. I don't know what the home run party has done to eras across the board. I would think 4.19 in the ALEast would be considered piching well. In addition he really has stepped up when the Sox needed. Anyone know his ERA+?

So, Price, how'd reigniting the Eck feud go for ya? I must confess to a personal bias against Price. He has been a thin-skinned hypersensitive whiner all the way back to his time with the Rays when he made a derogatory comment about Papi thinking he was bigger than the game. In the offseason he called Papi and apologized and said everything was cool between them. Then he hit Papi in the back at the start of that next season. Because I root for the name on the front of the jersey and because Papi forgave him. I, with great reluctance, accepted him as Red Sox player. I also felt some sympathy for him based on what I felt was negative over-reaction to his post season record. His recent outburst reignited my dislike. Tonight's outing was predictable. Another prediction is that he'll be defensive with the press.
Red Sox should replace the entire roster for next season.
I know you were intentionally being outrageous but in truth I think there only 2 untouchables from the Sox perspective: Bogaerts and Devers. Mookie only goes if it's clear he isn't resigning here and a team knocks our socks off with an offer.Sale and Price virtually are untradeable because of their terribly expensive contracts.

This is unreal. I've never seen an ump this bad. And I watch NBA basketball. Remdog is apoplectic about the umpire. While I believe this board normally overreacts to the umpires, this guy has been horrible and it has inexplicably been one-sided today.

It amazing the redsox going into the trade deadline were red hot and ownership does nothing and now there dead in the water. This team needed a piece or two and if they would have done something I believe they would be playing a whole lot better They lost the last 2 games immediately before the deadline. Both of our "aces" Sale and Price were terrible. We all saw starting pitching crap all over themselves and team management chose not to do more. You can excuse the poor play on no trades but Sox were already in trouble
