why is moreland in the lineup. his vs lefthanded splits are always terrible and even worse this year. I think Cora chose Moreland versus Bradley. He was going to have to let one of them bat against a left handed pitcher

Cora on WEEI this afternoon re-affirmed his belief that both Taylor and Hernandez can be weapons for his bullpen. He also identified Workman as the guy. He says that they have identified a mechanical issue with Sale and he believes it will solve the command problems for Sale. He thinks the slider will again reach the back foot of the RH hitters.

The team's core issue is that Sale, Price, and Porcello just haven't had it this year With Porcello leaving at season's end I believe the above sentence accurately describes the dilemma for 2020 and beyond. The Sox have two aging, declining, highly paid lefthanders(maybe injured) at the top of the rotation for multiple years. This season shows how that has worked.

Merrifield is a lot more interesting to me than Gennett. He's faster and plays some OF, and Gennett is a lefty fly ball pull hitter which is great in Cincy, but less so in Boston. The writers are reporting that KC has set a very high price for Merrifield.

Sam Travis seems to have pushed past Chavis as the right hand platoon partner for Moreland which leaves 2d base platoon and occasional relief for Devers as the only plate opportunities for Chavis. I would be willing to trade Chavis as the main piece of a trade for a quality reliever and a 4th outfielder(RH). We have the depth at Pawtucket to cover 2d base.

Walden's gotta make a nastier 0 - 2 pitch to Sogard there. too easy to put that one in play [br 95.6 mph sinker on the black is a pretty nasty pitch. Blame the 3 89mph middle-middle cutters.

This is pulling from the Chavis thread idea that suggested it would be preferable to trade Chavis versus Bobby Bombs. I believe we've seen the best of Chavis and would hang onto the dream ceiling of Dalbec. Chavis should go in lieu of Dalbec in my opinion. Check Radiohix thoughts and stats.

Is Dom Smith someone that might actually be on the table? I haven't really followed him since he was drafted, but I was high on him that year, and there's a giant void at first so far this season. I believe Smith is currently on the IL.

I just saw that Bobby Bombs played 1st base in this game. If anyone saw the game, how did he look? Is there any significance for this September?(That's if he's still a Sox prospect)

Travis is really showing us something...very pleased about that. Nice piece of hitting. Right now I'd rather Travis than Pearce as my rh half of the 2st base platoon.

Am I wrong or can you not get a blown save in the 5th inning? It has to be a late game save situation. There’s some scorer discretion involved with that but it’s got to be a save situation. In the defintion of blown save, there is a statement that middle relievers often get blown saves but seldom get saves because they are not in the late game save situations.

Spot on. I know it’s Fenway and all that, but that was a miss hit fly ball. Hard to complain about miss hit flyballs after Benni's HR. But since it's the Yankees it was a miss hit lucky flyball

So you didnt take the womebs claims into consideration I made no comment about education levels so I don't accept it as relevant to the question I asked.
Congratulations on teaching your children.

Who the reporter or Rivera? Robert Silverman needs to go back to whatever rock he crawled out from. Mariano Rivera is one of the classiest human beings in the country. When you proclaim Rivera as one of the classiest people do you totally disregard the claims by the mother of 2 of his children that he doesn't support them financially or spend much time with them? I know from the Ortiz thread that you judge adulterers harshly.

not sure about that...Papi could go oppo but actually i don't think it's at the distance Devers can go. Papi's monstrous power was to the pull side. Was going to say the same thing. Papi hit a lot of fly ball doubles and home runs to LF, but he didn't destroy 437 foot home runs that way. You don't think Papi ever hit one out of Fen way the opposite way? It's just theoretical since we don't have statcast back.

Name the last lefty that hit a 437 foot home run to that far to the opposite field. That was just as impressive as the Chapman HR. Papi

Hot take: Darwinzon Hernandez will be a better MLB reliever in 2020 than Ken Giles. Then, why not have both? Make Darwinzon unavailable in trade talks. Pedro why do you believe the Jays would be interested in Dalbec. They already have Guerrero at 3rd. The guy you predicted would be better than Devers by the end of this seaon

Does the league ever do anything ever about any game under protest? It seems that they'd rather get it wrong than to admit they're wrong. I swear Taylor has gotten 2 strikes on check swings and they haven't shown replays. The only protest I remember being replayed was the George Brett pine tar game.

We are now at the point in the game that last night's fiasco with the bullpen will cost the Red Sox. If Workman had only pitched one inning and 12 pitches,he would be available to close today's game. Of course we need to score some runs before that will matter.

If Moreland doesn’t get sorted out by the deadline do we consider making a move? Is there a gold glove level left-handed hitting 1st baseman that we could get?

Cora has no choice tomorrow. Workman out. Barnes has thrown 2 days in a row although he only threw 17 pitches in those 2 outings. We'll have to hope Price goes longer than 5 innings.

I don't put this game on the bullpen. Missed double play by Chavis and Cora's use of Workman leads to the brinkmanship win. It's already been said but now Workman misses at least the next 2 games.
