Well, we can agree to disagree. You’re not a couple moves away from a super bowl when you’re that bad and have several dead contracts.

What are these "tons of needs" beyond a top QB, OL & WR help (which they have hopefully addressed)? The Patriots were just one of the worst teams in the NFL. Probably worse than the Commanders. They need talent all over the place.

Drafting heavily based on need rather than best available seems like a pretty radical departure from the old Patriot philosophy.
Maybe it works but it seems like a weird strategy to me for a rebuilding team with tons of needs.

Don’t like it. Some really good talent was there.

I’m happy with Maye, but man Marvin Harrison just looks like a slam dunk monster.

Wasn’t Jacques a solid depth guy? Or am I missing something?

Stoked to see Whitlock in-person on Saturday! Not so stoked to be going to the glorified Toyota dealership of a ballpark that’s Angel Stadium (and the 30 mile 2 hour drive). But hey — SOX! Also for those on the east coast, prepare for a possible rain delay tomorrow — looks like there should be some rain around game time but nothing that should persist and result in a postponement. Growing up, my drive to Fenway was 2 hours. Now I live in Boston and it still takes me 45 min to get home from the game usually, lol.

A sweep is a sweep but that is a 50 win A's team at best. Gotta hit with runners on. Gotta hit better period. We lost 2 of 3 at Oakland last year. But yeah your larger point is right, the offense has been a double play machine to start the year.

God I hate watching Jensen pitch. Remember the guy on here who used to go walk his dog whenever Kimbrel pitched? I have good news for that dog.

I’m resigned to the fact that this team is years away. I don’t want to pay a guy like Ridley who’s not top tier and is almost 30 big money that would have been a waste. I really hope they don’t draft a QB at number 3 and try to play him year one on this team. I’d rather draft MHJ or trade back for a haul and add talent to the roster. Figure out the QB next year or even the year after. I agree. Unfortunately it seems like they are dead set on drafting a QB, although to be fair its possible Kraft is involved in that. Daniels in particular scares me. I just hate the idea of deciding what position you want to draft for like this before you even know who will be available there. Unless they love all 3 QBs, which to me would indicate a separate issue of evaluation problems if they love three pretty different prospects.

Hopefully this means there is a real chance of drafting Harrison.

I’m not sure Montgomery is the guy to break open the bank for.
If Breslow goes for more of a real rebuild than Bloom, and actually trades away guys if we’re not serious contenders that’s enough for me in year one.

Part of it is just bad public relations from the Red Sox. Some people spend a ton on tickets and the team misrepresented how aggressive they’d be.
Additionally, many think the team should’ve started the rebuild earlier, and instead took a middling approach. Patriots made the same mistake actually.

Emptying the farm for Cease, Soto and Burnes wouldn't have given the Red Sox a World Series favorite Is there anyone you're arguing with who has expressed support for this? There have been, on this forum. Especially with regard to Cease.

What are the chances the Patriots force a QB draft pick at #3? Thats my least preferred option and I keep seeing it in mocks. Im fine with them taking Daniels there from lsu if thats whats left. I love harrrison (wr) but we need a qb and not big on the options if we wait. They could always take a QB in round two who is more appropriate for their draft slot rather than drafting a guy third who many don’t believe is worth that high of a pick.

Mazzulla sat on a bunch of timeouts again. I wish he’d use them to try and stop some of this bleeding.

Jayden Daniels scares the crap out of me. Seems to me like Marvin Harrison should be the obvious pick. I agree they should not shoehorn in a QB.

We certainly aren't operating like a big market team. This is literally the 2nd salary dump trade we have made this offseason. Do you even know what a salary dump is? They are only “dumping” 5M and got the Braves top prospect for Sale. That’s like the Red Sox trading Mayer for Burnes and calling it a salary dump for the Brewers. The money the Red Sox are “dumping” is also probably going to be spent on another player.

We are not a small market team! that is nothing more than sports talk BS. We certainly aren't operating like a big market team. This is literally the 2nd salary dump trade we have made this offseason. A small market team wouldn’t be able to send 17M like that. A lot of mid-market ones wouldn’t either.

This trade makes ZERO sense. None. Nothing about it makes any sense. Just purposely making the team worse for no reason with the Verdugo and Sale trades. All of it would have made sense if they acquired an ace. But there aren't any of those left. The Red Sox are well behind the elite teams in the mlb. It makes sense to get some capital back and position the team to leap forward when the competitors have been trading from their farms and overextended themselves financially for a little while. I was more optimistic on Sale than most I think but the Red Sox were able to leverage their financial muscle to better the team for the future. Its possible Sale comes back healthy and good but he hasn’t been both of those things for awhile now. I trust Bailey and Breslow here.

I'm not sure I buy that. What's the point of replacing Bloom with Breslow if he's going to soft through the bargain bin like Bloom constantly did. I still think Breslow will get Montgomery and/or Imanaga. He'll decide to sign a second free agent or not based on the viability of a trade not being too costly. I mean if they dont bring in significant upgrades the booing at Winterfest will pale in comparison to what last year was. I think when pressured Sox management responds. I think that's what got them to sign Devers long-term, the trying to avoid even more public backlash. I suspect they'll sign Montgomery most likely. Maybe Gioloito winds up the 2nd guy? Theyll spend 200 million plus on the two pitchers. I think the idea might be that Breslow is going to be what Bloom was supposed to be. Meaning a better version of Bloom.

I don’t know. I am of two minds: 1) sign Monty and Snell, hope chips fall right this year — and one way or the other be interesting. 2) accept that you are too far behind for FA signings to catch you up, sign no one and avoid paying Monty and Snell as they decline (having not even gotten you a ring). Take your lumps, take another good draft pick, bide your time. Sign me up for option two. Those aren’t guys you blow up the wallet for.

Morosi is reporting that Yamamoto wants to pitch "on the biggest stage", which means, despite how we feel or how much money the Red Sox offer, it's going to be difficult to change his mind if he has his sights set on NY or LA. There is no substitute for vibes, and Boston simply can't match the fanfare of NY or LA, as much as we'd like to think we come close. I disagree that the Red Sox don’t fit the billing as the biggest stage, but it does seem like he wants to be a Yankee.
