Ok, confession. I’m trying to be cool, but if the Sox don’t at least split today, I might begin to panic. I’m not proud of that, but here we are. We really need to win both actually with Richards on the hill tomorrow.

Even if JD is entering his decline we’re only on the hook one more year. The Yankees still have a million years left on the Stanton contract.

Connor Wong? Are they going to put Plawecki at first?

Richards buyout price on his option goes up if he keeps making starts.

Pérez demoted to the pen per Cotillo.

If the Sox give Pérez a start vs. Tampa they're basically forfeiting that game.

Sale should have already been up. As soon as he had a few tuneups and was able to go 4 innings, he needed to do the rest of his progression in the Majors. They need him. But hey, maybe they can break more attendance records in Worcester instead. He should have started Friday. But why is the expectation that hes going to seamlessly fit into this rotation coming off Tommy John surgery? After DFAing Richards and Perez they need to also bring Seabold up to back up Sale. He doesn’t need to fit into the rotation. If the dude can give us 4-5 innings and only give up a run or two against the Rays that’s a step up from Perez. Anything better than that is gravy.

Who pitches Wednesday?

Is it out of the question we give Seabold a shot vs Tampa on Wednesday? Or at least use an opener?

Downs just turned 23. There will be other, potentially better opportunities to sell high, especially given our lack of cap room.

I’d honestly rather see Yack Daddy start as an opener than Perez at this point. At least he’s an interesting arm that throws gas.

Can't we just stretch Valdez into a starter? ...don't know if I'm joking or not... Or at least use him as an opener.

I’d just be happy if Sale starts the Thursday game vs the Rays. It sounds like its a possibility they give him rest and we end up with another Perez start against the Rays.

Would love to see the Sox DFA Richards and move Perez to the pen asap. I get that Perez is stretched out but the dude rarely makes it through four innings anymore anyways.

Its weird to me everyone is worried about Schwarber when the most obvious problem is Pérez and Richards. Cora as well actually. They’ve both been hammered for like a month plus. Cora keeps leaving them in way too long, bringing them back out for another inning where they inevitably give up at least one run after getting out of a jam the previous inning where they clearly lost it. This happens basically every Richards start. Yeah the offense is in a funk but they’ll snap put of it. OHH freakn please!! Cora is the reason this team is even in contention. Just look at last year, the expectations for this year and where they are. That might be the worst take of the year, in fact I nominate it as such. Relax dude. Obviously Cora is a great manager but on this issue specifically he has left in Richards too long and we’ve lost games because of it. Thats all I’m saying on that.

I mean Richards still gets paid regardless. Free agents primarily come for the money and the opportunity to play for a good franchise/manager is a secondary objective. I don’t think whether reclamation projects fail and get DFA-ed after giving them over 20 starts is a big consideration for future guys we’d want if one at all.

I get that we can't tax the bullpen too much but for most of June, we carried Andriese and Workman on the roster and they barely pitched. When they did pitch, they pitched very badly, and Andriese blew what could’ve been one of the best wins of the season in Oakland. So they completely wasted two bullpen spots. Then this month they went with a six man rotation, an experiment that backfired dramatically when it led to ERod starting against a righty heavy Jays team and getting swept by our top competitor.
Once Sale returns, I would advocate that we option Araúz, DFA Richards and bring back Houck as a bulk reliever. With two bulk relievers, we should be ok with bullpen workload management. They should also get at least one more arm in September.

Cora leaves in Richards too long once again. Dude does it every single time he starts.

So Barnes tested positive in March, is now vaccinated, hasn't tested positive since, and is now on the COVID IL. Come on guys. Could be a shrewd move if Richards gets lit up tonight and they bring in a long man to eat innings.

I’ve got to the point where I can’t watch Richards anymore. At least Perez is half the price of Richards.
