Who do we start in game 2? Feel like you try to build off this momentum with ERod and keep him on regular rest. Try to get Sale right by starting him at home in game 3. Give Pivetta the extra rest and start him in game 4.
Houck and Perez the emergency long guys.

Bringing in McLanahan was very dumb for them. Ericmvan was right that wa a bad move.
If they hadn’t done that who knows.

Putting Dalbec in when Schwarber has been your best post season hitter is really, really dumb

If we’d run a squeeze play with a man on 3rd we might be in a bit better mood right now

I am pretty surprised McHugh is getting such a big game. We gotta take advantage.

Yes, I went to the wild card game against the Yankees as well as yesterday and he has been horrible. Going tonight and don’t want them to take a chance on him vs a righty. Fine with throwing him out there vs. McLanahan. You cannot be serious? You are judging Dalbec based on two games? Horrible? I agree with Incandenza that it is OK to leave Dalbec out. But you are treating him like chopped liver. No thanks. I’ve been watching him all year man. He has 91 Ks in 263 PAs against righties hitting .212 this year. He is not hot anymore and hasn’t been for awhile. This is Game 4 of the ALDS its not the time to throw Bobby out there and hope for the best when this team is hitting into an insane number of double plays and leaving men on base all over the place.

I get not wanting him to face fireballers, but are you really so adamant about not wanting the guy who had an 1.100 OPS in his last 150 ABs of the seeason to face McHugh or Wacha?
(The lineup's fine as is, imo, but I would have had no problem with Dalbec being in it either. There is some cost to having Schwarber play 1B and having Martinez trying to run the bases...)

You know in the off-season I believe the difference from DD to Bloom will be , he will not be teary eyed if Scwarber gets a crazy deal , he won’t match it, unlike DD he retained the same guys the next season and it bite him. Evoladi ended up ok. I love it when these guys play playoff baseball you can’t price that in a contract. Probably no need to have JDM and Schwarber on next year’s roster. But it’s a wonderful luxury to have during this postseason! We’ll see if JDM opts out(guessing he won’t). Schwarber is due a big contract and I doubt the Sox are the team to give it to him. I think its unlikely JDM opts out. 2.9 fwar for 19.3M for an aging DH. Who would pay more than that? After a full season of rest I think he’ll comeback and be similar to this year. As far as the year after that goes, I agree others who think we should move away from a permanent DH. Its great that Papi and JDM worked out but its too risky that the deal becomes a bust. I don’t love buying high on Schwarber as much as I like him.

Just seeing them knock out the Yankees was more than enough to satisfy me. At this point it's all gravy. Nice to see Vazquez come through with the walk off. He is not one of the problems on the team and the abuse directed against him is just weird. This reached new heights with fans blaming Sale's poor outing on Vazquez. When a teams top guns fail it's expected they will get hammered for not producing but there are always a lot of players on any team who don't come with high expectations. Yeah gunning Judge down at the plate was extremely satisfying in particular.

So - in the world of sliding expectations - with the Sox up 2-1 and the key game today at home - would we be disappointed if we didn't win today - if not today, game 5 in Tampa - to move on? Or will we say "well, we didn't expect this, great season, I'm OK"? This long time, old guy Red Sox fan would be really disappointed, that's for sure. Cora has them right where he wants them! Expectations change as the season goes on. And now they change as the playoffs go on. The answer to the question can also be answered in retrospect. Right now a series loss would suck as they are up one with a game tonight at home to close it out in which they should be favorites. I think they are going to win tonight but if they don't and lose the series I will be disappointed but satisfied they had a very good season. A season in which they struck gold with some players that will be low cost with solid contributions for next year. Between the draft, the farm system, some good moves and the season I think they have provided the fans with a great season. The Sox are technically favorites but its really basically a pickem game. I like our chances if McHugh is starting though.

I would be disappointed if we lost but let’s not forget how sweet spanking the MFYs was after they traded 5 of their top 25 prospects for Gallo and Rizzo. They did what they needed to and then some this year.

Kind of love Schwarber hamming it up there. That’s the kind of attitude winning teams have—light, loose, still having fun. It’s funny how (some) fans interpret this type of behavior. If we are winning it’s great to see, possibly even a contributor to the team’s success. During our rough stretches in August/September, if guys were caught on camera even smiling during a game we were losing, they were excoriated for not taking the game seriously enough. I’ve always wondered how the 2011 fried chicken and beer stories would have been interpreted by fans and media if the team had won games on the field. I don’t think you need to wonder. It was Millar’s idea to do shots before game 7 of the 2004 ALCS and one of the players that reportedly did it was Damon who hit a grand slam.

Hopefully we don’t see Bobby D again in game 4. He’s been terrible the entire post season and isn’t a good fielder either. I’d rather see Shaw in there if they need a defensive replacement for Schwarber.

I can't imagine they start Wacha tomorrow. They can't start Patiño but he only threw 15 pitches. I would just go with an opener if I were them and then go back to McLanahan if they win Game Four.

I'm really seeing this particular Red Sox team as showing their best when pressure is on - it's a hell of a long season and they did just enough to sneak in (92 wins being a pretty good "just enough"). But now the lights are brighter, and I get a sense they are just having a blast, are really cohesive - definitely a different feel from 2018 or 2013, but leadership is emerging here and there - I've been watching the player post game interviews, and they are really fun. Heroes are emerging from everywhere. I am coming around to the fact that this team may just have "it". This win was awesome, I was at Fenway today, but that might be a bit strong. The Yankees sweep of the Sox at Fenway was really, really bad and almost cost the team a playoff spot. Also lost 2/3 to the Orioles shortly thereafter. This team also hits into double plays at an insane rate.

I mean if you’re a big mlb fan just get the radio package its like 4 bucks for the whole month. You listen to one game and its worth it. Plus you can listen to the other playoff teams’ games.

Kinda think they should go to Dalbec here I really don’t understand the infatuation with Dalbec on this board. Kitteredge is like the worst guy to bring in Dalbec for. He has trouble with 94 mph from righties much less 98+.
