Yeah they threw a bunch of darts at the wall and inevitably some of them didn’t work out. Luckily the ones that didn’t work out, they’ll be able to cut ties with all of them.

“This team just has a funk on it. It’s not enough to just lose, they have their ace pantsed by their bitter rival. From here on out cole will have this start shoved in his face whenever they play the Red Sox.”

Are we in agreement now to not start Bobby vs tough righties? Doesn’t make a lot of sense. Eh, if it’s between him and Travis Shaw, I’m fine with Bobby. I was at the game last night but heard they mentioned a stat where Bobby has something like 2 hits against pitches 97+ all year. CANNOT start him against Baz. That would be managerial malpractice

Enjoyed the heck out of this game. Sat in RF Roof Box. Gunning down judge and the Bogaerts homer were my two favorite moments. Bullpen pitched insanely well.
Going forward, I think its pretty important we don’t give Bobby starts versus tough righties. Pretty clear to me that was the wrong move.

Last Saturday we had a 2-1 lead with two outs in the top of the eighth with no one on and they walked Brett Gardner.
That absolutely cannot happen.

Cannot walk Brett Gardner tonight. The Red Sox have been doing it all year. If you need to put him on base, at least bean him.

What would the Red Sox's final record have been if we'd had only average relief pitching after the All-Star Game? My guess is that we would have won 4-6 more games, including at least one of the final two games in our last series with the Yankees. If we'd come into this game with 96 wins, we'd be the favorites. Our bullpen sets up very well for this game: Brasier & Taylor for rocky mid-inning moments + Houck to eat some innings. Then Robles (perhaps) & Whitlock to get us to the 9th and Pivetta, who seemed to love the spotlight against Soto Sunday afternoon. ERod will be waiting if we go extra innings. We're not the same team we were just ten days ago. If Cora hadn’t brought in Darwinzon Hernàndez vs the Yanks then its fairly likely the Yanks would’ve had to use Cole vs the Jays in a play in game.

Can someone explain going with Dalbec over Shaw if Shaw plays better D and hits righty fastballs better? Simple. They want Shaw available late in the game to face one of their righty relievers when they PH for one of their catchers. If not Shaw as the lefty off the bench, then who? Their only other lefty is their pinch runner Duran. Makes sense. Thanks.

Houck did not do well versus the Yanks last time out.

It's just 12 PA. 94 on the season isn't arbitrary, there's a huge split in the data. Statcast only does >= and <= selections, and no fractional velos, so it's hard to do buckets of each mph. But here's Dalbec on the season: .253 / .188 94+ (51)
.306 / .190 95+ (33) .356 / .188 96+ (19) .404 / .063 97+ (11) I can do math to get the bucket numbers, but it looks like there's little change until you get to 97+
Velo No wxOBA wOBA 91 8 .521 .864 92 10 .529 .458 93 17 .233 .268 94 18 .156 .184 95 14 .238 .193 96 8 .290 .360 97+ 11 .404 .063 He annihilates salad. 93 is where he actually starts to struggle, but 94 gives him the most trouble. Above that, the harder they throw, the better he hits the ball. I doubt I'll look into the karma collapse at 97+, but who knows?
Whats wrong with the Shaw idea? I just can’t have faith Bobby will hit Cole and Shaw would likely field better.

8 of the 10 "pundits" at mlb.com pick the Yankees. Can’t say I blame them. They just swept us, they have Cole, and we have no JD. They also killed Eovaldi last time.

Any chance we get Shaw at 1B? Bobby vs Cole is basically asking for an inning or two of Bobby whiffing with men on base.

Hard to get excited for this game with how this team's bullpen has been performing and how they've done in "must-win" situations and games against superior opponents. With that said, win this ONE GAME, and the entire season is a complete success. Anything more is just extra credit. Even if they lose ALDS game 5 or the ALCS game 7 up 7 runs in the 9th inning. All I ask for is that they win 1 time. This seems very strange for any serious Sox fan. I had an old boss who made my life miserable who was a big Yankees fan. I’ve been to hundreds of Red Sox games since I was 8 and this is my 4th Yankee game this year tonight. I’m a 3rd generation Boston sports fan, my Grandpa used to live in the Fenway area in the 40s. We have a chance to kill shot them after they gave up 5 of their top 25 prospects and have Cole in his prime. This is how I feel as well.

Christian Arroyo will be this game’s Bucky Dent I actually asked myself, which guy on the roster could fit that role, and came up with the same answer. That means it has to happen, right? I can see Plawecki filling this role as well.

Our offense has to show up at some point too. I think Richards and Barnes should be all set, and we have Bazardo and Sawamura on top of the starting pitchers. Chris Sale needs to show up too Where the hell has Sawamura been? Is he hurt? He hasn’t pitched in a 9 days... I definitely don’t want to see Pivetta tomorrow. Erod can probably give you an inning. Same with Eovaldi. Sale really needs to give you 6IP and maybe even into the 7th. I hope he’s sharp. Big game for him. Sawamura hasn’t been very good the second half. Think its that simple.

I think it will be really tough for the Rays to win tomorrow. Conversely, our bullpen is pretty heavily taxed.

Im surprised people here are rooting for the Mariners. Means the small chance of being able to go to the wild card game even with a loss tomorrow (if the Jays lose) becomes extremely narrow.
