Hit #2000 for David Ortiz. Doubt he'll make it (between the anti-DH bias and PED association), but I would love to see him in the Hall of Fame one day.

Good to get Victorino out of there and pinch run for him. That guy needs all the rest he can get. Nicely managed inning for Farrell, keeping Dempster in, recognizing the right moment to pinch hit, etc.

I still have some reservations about Middlebrooks, but if he and Xander come close to panning out... Let's see, people also have reservations about Napoli and Dempster. They have reservations about Drew and Nava and Ortiz isn't hitting and... Last time I checked it was a team game, and the idea is to try to build a good one out of a lot of different parts. This one looks ok. Add: Like I said...

Wow. Red Sox teeing off right now.
EDIT: And lol at Uehara trying to catch that ball in the bullpen. Almost dropped himself.

I like him, but he's gonna need to string together some extended consistency before I'm convinced he's a good everyday player. (I think he will, but I'm just not sold yet.)

Daniel Nava is now hitting .301/.389/.451 with a .369 wOBA. That ranks 9th among all qualified outfielders, ahead of guys like Carlos Gomez, Matt Holliday, Justin Upton, and Adam Jones.

Wouldn't that have been a good spot to get Xander an AB?

My opinion, but if they DFAd him tomorrow, 10+ teams would put in claims. The board was of two minds last year when he started out on fire but cooled off. The questions have been there from the get-go, but they largely revolved around his having shot through the system before his approach was refined. There's no doubt there's power there, but can he learn to wait for his pitch? The most encouraging thing about this evening, to me, was the at bat where he worked an 0-2 count to 3-2. He seems to be coming around. He can be a regular and hit 25 HRs easy. But will he do it with a .750 OPS or at .850? That's the real question. Either way he's an asset, just not as valuable.

Even Ryan Lavarnway gets into the action! He deserves that after a tough year.

Really, really pathetic showing by the two dudes in the Monster seats on Lavarnway's homerun ... they acted like they were trying to catch it, but they didn't get within two feet of that ball.

I was more peeved at the "Viva la [barstool]" ad. That website is a cesspool of awfulness.

It's a shame the Tigers are going to steal this one away by scoring 15 next inning. Since the Sox lost their chance to win the series when Fister shut them down on Monday.
Game thread declarations are so hilarious sometimes.
No way the Sox can touch the Tigers in a 7-game series, though. Just can't happen.

Bonderman's going to get somebody killed. Everything is hit hard.
EDIT: And there he goes. Good idea.

Man, I just got home. Bad game to miss, I guess.
On an unrelated note, it's just sad how hard Bonderman has fallen. That dude had some of the best stuff I've ever seen in my life. Injuries suck.

Here is some fun with numbers:
Entering this game the two top run differentials in baseball belonged to Detroit (+167) and Boston (+138). Right now, Boston has a run differential of 152. Detroit has a run differential of 153.

Brandon Snyder in the field in LF. He could be a useful bench player if he can backup 1B/3B/LF, although probably not for the Red Sox since they have right-handed hitting players in 3B/LF already.
