For the lottery that determines the top three picks, they just average the number of ping-pong balls that would otherwise go to the two slots. If neither team picks in the top three, they flip a coin.

Danny needs to tell Stevens he has to try to lose these last 4 games. You can't tell the players, but the GM and coaches can work to lose them. Rondo's season should be over and Stevens needs to forget how to coach

So if they end up with the 3rd worst record how far could they drop if they "lose" the lottery? Anybody knows?

So much for the Celtics and third worst record. They will be lucky to stay in the top 5. Inexcusable..

Orlando gives them a gift the other night and they waste it. If you're going to do something, do it right.

Seriously, how the hell do you let Sullinger back into that game?
Putting in one of your young core players on the court with an injury so he can screw up the lottery chances. Unforgivable.

They're probably going to beat Philadelphia, too, and slide down to sixth. Just bleh.

I'm feeling the good karma. Win the last three - finish with the 6th worst record - win the lottery.

Time to stage a Brad Stevens DUI so that he's forced to sit out the last two games.

Same deal, as far as I know.
Clutch loss tonight. Not sure whether I want the Lakers or the Jazz to win their game tonight. If the Lakers win, Boston looks like it's going to get the fifth seed. If the Jazz win, looks like a three-way-tie for fourth.

Part of me says LA but I think mathematically, more often than not we would not only keep the 5 but also have a shot at moving up one if Utah wins if it comes down to coin flips, right? Decent chance we drop one but maybe worth the small risk. I think it also could just be a wash at this point. Would've been real nice if we just tied Orlando though and had a shot at the 3. Post game: Nick Young drops 40 and sends LA back to the #6 overall pick. Now thats funny.

Looks like Lakers are gonna win. Celtics have to hope that Utah beats Minnesota on the road on Wednesday. 5th seed odds: 29.1% top three, 8.8% first pick.

Don't think its very likely Utah beats the Timber pups to screw up their lottery chances. I just hope we lose to the Wiz and keep our seed tbh. Running the ESPN lottery game, it seems like most of the time we end up with Randle, and we get a top 3 pick fairly often. Rarely but occasionally we end up with Gordon. Thoughts?

OT for Utah/Minny. Boston lost. Lakers one. Could be best case scenario.

So the Celtics will split the 4th and 5th ping ping balls with Utah?

So the celtics get the 4th BEST record? Much easier to crash the party for the top 3 from there.

So the Celtics will split the 4th and 5th ping ping balls with Utah? Yeah. Leaves them either a 33.6 or a 33.4 chance at a top 3 pick (coin flip decides who gets that extra ping-pong ball, as well as who would pick first if neither team gets a top-3 pick).
