Could use 2-4 runs here to give Koji a break. He's already warmed up and pitched, what's another 7 pitches to him?

Well... sequencing could have been worse.

Well... sequencing could have been worse. Could not have been better though. Popout, HR, single, single. Put these Koji results in a random order and we lose or tie 23 out of 24 times.

Is there a more infuriating player than buck?
I don't like comps, but what would his be? At his best when he had a fastball, it's like a young pre roid Roger.
Now with his issues he looks like oil can.

Interesting comp. He's even as thin as Oil Can. But I don't think he'll go insane and ruin his career over not being picked to the All Star team.
For a long time he was a tease, but that time has passed. He threw a little harder today, but for the most part, there isn't enough speed separation among his pitches.

I feel like I'm the only person that likes Buchholz. I think he is going to bounce back. He is a very good player and its still really early in the year for him. 1 year ago today he was by far our best pitcher. Middlebrooks, Jackie and Xander I think are a few more examples of guys that I think may just need more time and patience.
I still wonder what kind of needs the Red Sox will target at in the upcoming months?
Great game today. 2-0 when fully healthy!

I like him as well.
That's what makes the results infuriating.
It's hard to pinpoint what's wrong and the lack of weight can lead to potentially unfair speculation.
At some point though you need to count on who you trot out.
He's earned some rope bot we all have limited length, don't we?

Also watching sox in two.
Melky looks extremely thick again with vicious bat speed...

Baptista also seems like his old self and jbj last out play was deceptively good. A quick jump put him in the perfect spot for the catch.

I know people are frustrated with Clay but its important to remember his potential and he signed a team friendly deal to stay here. The way people talk about him it seems like he was a free agent that just signed a big contract here and then mailed it in.

I actually think Buchholz will be fine. He's still working his way back from his shoulder problems and his enforced rest, building up arm strength. I think he's got another start or two to manage his way through, and then he'll go on a run.
Of course, we'll have to see if he can remain healthy from there, but that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

Pedroia 2B, Sizemore LF, Napoli 1B, Pierzynski DH, Middlebrooks 3B, Gomes RF, Bogaerts SS, Bradley Jr. CF, Ross C
No Ortiz, no Victorino. Pierzynski and Bogaerts should trade places. Ross needs to learn how to catch Peavy, and Pierzynski needs to learn how to catch Lester.
Somehow this lineup just does not inspire any confidence whatsoever.

...in what world would you DH Pierzynski over Carp? Even if you did, why would you hit him cleanup? Answer: because Pierzynski hit .417/.462/.750 versus Dickey in 13 PAs while Carp is 0/3, 2 Ks, and Farrell is a sucker for small sample size matchup results. Sigh.

Odd day off for Ortiz as Dickey's a pitcher he usually hammers. Wonder if the achilles is barking and they want to get him two in a row with the off day tomorrow, as well?

Probably hoping that with Lester on the mound they can sacrifice his offense for some (probably much-needed) rest. I don't have a massive problem with Pierzynski DHing as a one-off thing, but he probably should never ever hit cleanup.

I think if they are sitting Ortiz there is probably a pretty good reason for it.

We'd have no one on the team if we gave up on everyone after the fans were ready to.

I'm all in on Buchholz. In fact I think that he's pitching when he knows he's not yet 100% arm-strengthwise is huge. The WS appearance when he was diminished taught him something and showed a lot of toughness.

Wow, having AJP batting cleanup and Gomes in RF gets overshadowed by Bautista in CF for dumbest managerial move in this game.
Oh and I guess Carp is our 3rd string DH now? WTF? Do we need one of those? Maybe Toronto is going to protest this lineup like the Marlins.
