And there is absolutely no defense of not pinch hitting for catchers ever again now that we're playing this game with only one.

Farrell won a WS because his gut said to start Jonny flipping Gomes. AJ hit a Grand Slam yesterday and as far as I remember he is a streaky hitter. I think it will be okay.

Xander and JBJ learning how to deal with the knuckleball very quickly.
As for Farrell winning a WS, I have no idea why he would deserve any particular credit for that. Cherington didn't give him enough bad options to muck it up.

Looks like the wind knocked that down on Melky. Very nice.

Oh, I'm not going to argue on this anymore (also because it makes no sense), I did it enough during the WS until it hit me that this board's favorite sport ain't baseball, but talking crap about our manager.

Absolutely pathetic ab by Pierzynski who wouldn't even be in the lineup for more than 25 teams. Time to catch up on dvr recordings as this lineup is not worth watching.

since we don't have an elite lead off guy I really think we need one more big bopper in this lineup to hit 3rd or 4th. I thought A-Gon was destined to be a Red Sox (turns out not for long) but I think Stanton is too.

We have a pretty big bopper who inexplicably is hitting 7th tonight and just knocked Dickey out of this game.

...in what world would you DH Pierzynski over Carp? Even if you did, why would you hit him cleanup? Answer: because Pierzynski hit .417/.462/.750 versus Dickey in 13 PAs while Carp is 0/3, 2 Ks, and Farrell is a sucker for small sample size matchup results. Sigh. Worked out well as always. The supposedly oh-so-tough Boston media probably won't mention it though.

This would be a really great spot to pinch hit for David Ross.
... oh, wait. Nevermind.

Why do managers always insist on leaving pitchers out there for the extra inning? Especially this early in the season? I will just never understand them caving to their players.

Good pitching and awful fielding by Lester.

Do you think Lester isn't pitching well or is this comment purely results-based? I thought the pitch that resulted in a double to Lawrie was pretty good and Lester was quite unlucky.

122 pitches for Lester - in an L, no less. He gonna be tired come October, if we get that far.

Seems odd that the batters need multiple games off already while the pitchers are expected grind things out. The roster construction and the lack of bullpen arms which can go multiple innings are not helping the Red Sox.

(I'm asking you, not John Farrell.)

Didn't mean for the comment to come off as results based; thought Lester had a fine game and that was a solid piece of hitting by Lawrie. However I would have been happy to throw someone like Capuano or Badenhop out there to save Lester's arm for later in the season. Maybe it doesn't matter because he's a workhorse. But I just worry that sometimes, JF can be shortsighted in the sake of letting his ace keep the ball for pride's sake.
