Kelly's best case scenario is what happened to Henderson Alvarez the last few years (another pitcher with a great fastball, no Ks, and a ton of GBs)-- massively improve his control and fully embrace the pitch-to-contact philosophy. Of course, that's easier said than done, and Henderson never had walk rates as bad as Kelly's in the majors or the minors.

Maybe we should convert Kelly to an outfielder.

Maybe we should convert Kelly to an outfielder. See, he's a base-stealing machine too.

Maybe we should convert Kelly to an outfielder. Screw it, just convert everyone to outfielders. I don't think the Red Sox have enough of them yet.

I guess it doesn't matter where you put him, Xander is crap defensively wherever he plays. Hey where's everyone who insisted that his slump was due to not playing shortstop? I suggest that now is an excellent time to advance that highly credible theory.

ander is crap defensively wherever he plays." ------------------------------------------------- It would help if you aren't afraid of the oncoming baserunner.
Since we're being critical I'd like to see a Wade Boggs instruction video passed around on 'how to protect the plate deep in the count.'

It's a lot harder to protect the plate these days now that everyone's got low/mid-90s gas and a killer breaking ball. Pitchers today just have a lot better stuff than they did back then.

I don't think he's been slumping quite as bad as his results in the last week or two. He's had a number of hard-hit balls find leather instead of grass.
Good to see that one drop in.

At least the YD Red Sox are going to the championship. Damn Phil Bickford looks good in a Red Sox jersey.

Hmmm, the "clutch" hitting seems to be catching up lately. We have no business possibly winning 3 out of 4 games when we have 25 hits in 45 innings.

Layne is a keeper, he can get lefties out with authority.

Also, I was critical of Kelly when he struggled so he deserves the credit when he pitches well. He turned it around after that first inning. I still don't have a lot of faith in him being any more than a 5th starter / bullpen type of guy going forward, but he's pitched well for us in his two starts thus far.
