I'm kinda surprised no team wanted Badenhop at the deadline. I guess he'd probably get through waivers to certain AL teams.

Watching it from Gameday, what happened to Yoenis Cespedes? Is he hurt?

Hand contusion, according to both Tim Britton and Peter Abraham.

Sox will regret not trading WMB when he had some value.

Wow, tip of the cap to Mr. C, that was heat with a big H.

If Chapman could add a change-up like Pedro's, he'd be the best pitcher of all-time.

Wow, tip of the cap to Mr. C, that was heat with a big H. Chapman (or even someone like Chris Sale) just looks so uncomfortable to hit against. All those arms and legs, and then the ball coming at you from way towards first base. Must be a nightmare for a lefty to look in at that.

I'm starting to fear the protected draft pick ... too much good pitching going on, too much lucky (er ... clutch) hitting.
Oh well! I'll take the wins and good performances from the young pitching over the draft pick any day (although Ranaudo was more "ok" than good today)

Good for Raunado to get his 1st MLB win despite average pitching. It's lucky to get 3 final outs after gave up 2 base hits and possible blown save from Mujica. It's gutless for Farrell to give day off to Uehara and gamble with Mujica.

All those arms and legs, and then the ball coming at you from way towards first base. Must be a nightmare for a lefty to look in at that. "uncomfortable" or "terrifying"? Reminds me of this story (no idea how apocryphal it is) "Ray Chapman had just heard, and only heard, two fastballs whizzing by him on this overcast day, and he just plumb decided the dugout would be a more commodious place than the batter's box, so he placed the bat down and began walking to the Cleveland bench. "Ray!" plate umpire Billy Evans yelled. "You've got one strike left!" "Never mind, Billy," said Chapman as he continued his little stroll. "I don't want it!" The man on the mound was Walter Johnson." articles.chicagotribune.com/2000-04-09/sports/0004090410_1_big-train-walter-johnson-davy-jonesSome foreshadowing from Chapman, sadly.

I hope the people cheering for wins don't complain when we don't sign any free agents that require giving up a draft pick. There are quite a few free agents that I'd give up a 2nd for, but not a 12-15th overall pick.

I am curious why Holt continues to play almost every day even though he has been sub-par since the All-Star break. Nice utility guy given that he can play multiple positions, but he certainly has been exposed as someone who should be playing only a couple of times of week. I guess that shows how bad the Red Sox are in 2014.

Otherwise everyone would have predicted he'd be our best outfielder before the season.

I guess that shows how bad the Red Sox are in 2014. Because writing someone off based on 101 PAs is dumb, and he's as worthy of continued evaluation as most of their other young players. Anyhow, most of the PAs he gets are from giving someone a day off (usually Bradley or Nava or Middlebrooks).

I think he is useful as a utility guy or someone who might be able to play for a week or two due to injuries. I just don't see him as an every day player on a team which has aspirations of making the playoffs.
