Listening to Projectile Comet now - I like it a lot! I was thinking they were giving off huge Dance Gavin Dance vibes and turns out Secret Band is basically a DGD side project! I guess it makes sense I didn't know them despite liking DGD, given that they're a secret band and all I was huge into A Day to Remember back in Homesick era. Don't listen much anymore, but still lots of good memories. Love the wedding song choice! I'd heard of Defeater but don't know them at all. Really liking Bastards right now.
Edit: And I'll definitely check out some more Kublai Khan too 👍
That's hilarious. I'm not a big fan of Dance Gavin Dance and then I went back to listen to it, yep. That's them haha. Never knew. I think they were my number 2 last year, either them or Hot Mulligan. I'm going to have some down time at work this PM so I'll give the playlists a listen! I saw ADTR when they were in their prime with NFG, ISHC (Jokey-side project), and FYS in Providence. That was one heck of a show. I made this playlist as kind of a joke, but also enjoy how relaxing it can be: Also a bit of a window of more of the bands I listen to without really any vocals lol Just got a chance to go through your playlist - I like it! It reminded me of a bunch of songs I used to loop that I hadn't thought about in years. Stuff like this:
I've seen once too, and it was on a tour with Rise Against of all bands, I think in Lowell. It was a great show! Awesome you got to see them in Providence too - I'm living in RI now and it feels like nothing interesting comes through here. It's basically Boston, Worcester, Hartford, or New Haven for anything I'm into!

I like the Acacia Strain. I really need to listen to some of their newer stuff, but I really liked that song! I remember years ago missing out on their DVD shoot at the Palladium and regretted it ever since. Vinny plays on Twitch which is kind of funny. Long before I met my wife, supposedly the guitarist hit her on the head with it on accident at Fat Cats. I just moved to Douglas after living in Quincy for years and now all of a sudden it feels like all the good shows decided to move to Boston now that I'm close to the Palladium lol.

My first introduction to The Acacia Strain was actually seeing them live as an opener. The singer walks out on stage and deadpans into the mic: "Hello. My name is Vincent and I hate all of you." And then they just started their set and killed it 😆 I'll have to check out their stream sometime. Gosh and getting hit with a guitar would really hurt, yikes. Memorable though! Unfortunately it looks like tickets are sold out, but I'm going to be at the Palladium in four days for a pretty stacked metal show. Lorna Shore is the headliner, and they're definitely worth a look if you don't know them - they're on quite the meteoric rise right now.

A buddy of mine was jealous of her since they're one of his favorites. It was memorable for her to say the least haha. I'll have to check them out. I've been laying low this holiday season with all the gift giving. Went a wee overboard. I wanted to check out the FYS show, but at the same time they're like ADTR to me. First couple of great albums then meh. If you're into synth/metalcore this is a band u just ran into. Edit: Just listened to more of it, some of it is good, some of it I'm not a big fan of. Not sure what country they're from. It seems like an album of two halves. Rings of Saturn was an inspiration for Suicide Silence. Rings of Saturn covers No Pity for a Coward. Very instrumental sound band.

Some parts are almost into The Browning territory with that video game sort of sound to them. I like Rings of Saturn but I didn't realize they covered Suicide Silence. Love it 😁

The fact that we've had this thread for years and never thought to rename it Know-a Song? Big miss. I am so sorry.

Just discovering this thread and beyond thrilled to partake.
I HIGHLY endorse the new album from The Last Dinner Party, Prelude to Ecstasy, particularly if you are a fan of Kate Bush or similar 80's art-rock. Plays exceedingly well as an album, not just a collection of songs, and IMO that's a gift in this day and age.

I'm not a huge sublime person myself, but my wife absolutely loves them and spent a few New Years going to see Bad Fish shows, most recently this last one.

Maybe Depeche Mode would be more accurate.

I should check out their other stuff!

Here's a real change of pace (changeup?). A dear friend of mine, Nick Humez, passed away last year. Nick was a true polymath with talents too numeral to mention here, but among his skills many were musical. At one point he was teaching a class in Mythology at a New Jersey college and as an aid he wrote a number of songs. His students prevailed upon him to make a CD which he obliged. If you are into mythology (anyone else remember Edith Hamilton's book from their elementary school days?) or just looking for something completely different check out Myth Songs. www.pandora.com/artist/nick-humez/myth-songs/ALhmnbh97v9tr49?corr=knowledge_panel&part=googleIf you just want to try one or two I'd suggest The Oracle or The Olympian Dozen.

Not looking for a recommendation but figured I'd ask, has anyone ever gone to a concert at Fenway? How are the acoustics? I just snagged tickets to see Pearl Jam in September, got lucky as all heck to get called from the waitlist (Not so lucky to pay what they're charging..).

Nice, I'm going to the 9/15 show. Been to a couple shows there. Obviously it's not Symphony Hall or whatever, but I did think some of the complaints about acoustics I've heard were a little overstated - I thought it was good from field level, maybe a little iffier in the stands. I've heard as you get further down the right field line the sound starts to diminish more. Still a fun place to see a show though.

I'll be at the 9/17 show, I haven't found my way to Fenway for anything in 10+ years. I've had it on my must do list to see a show there and when PJ announced their shows I had to try and jump on that. I'll be on the 3rd base line about halfway up, I'm sure just being there will be worth the admission either way.
Very excited for it, I've been listening to some previous shows they've done at Fenway in 2016 & 2018 and they seem to love playing Fenway.

I've found that stadium shows are often about where you are. I saw the Stones at Fenway, dead center in the stands and it was fine. I saw them at Gillette off to the side and high and all the sound escaped out the end of the stadium. But I've seen other shows there off to the side and low and it was fine.

I was blown away by this. I had never considered Chicago to be a great guitarist band but whoa...
ADD: I was curious so I Googled it:
What did Hendrix say about Kath? Like pretty much everyone who came to see the band perform, Hendrix was mesmerised by Kath's guitar playing, going so far as to claim that he thought the Chicago guitarist played six strings better than he did, naming Kath the “best guitarist in the universe”. High praise indeed.

If you ever find yourself in Colorado Springs, attend a musical event at the Red Rocks Amphitheater. It doesn't matter who the band is, the venue is what you are there to hear.

My all-time favorite festival find, Mdou Moctar, released a new track a couple weeks ago and it did not disappoint. This guy’s story is really fascinating—I’ve seen more than one headline calling him “the Hendrix of the Sahara,” a title that took as much determination to earn as it sounds.

I'm on a huge pearl jam kick since I have tix to see them in Sept but their new album is pretty solid in my opinion. Not going to claim its among their best stuff but it's good none the less.

Heh. Not available in the U.S.! Those crazy Americans, lol. Here's a Plant song to tide you over. I used to hike from 29 Palms to Big Bear so the song has sentimental value to me.
