My music tastes are all over the map, It’d be easier to list groups I dislike. To that end I submit the following…
Metallica: Hetfield sounds like he is getting pegged while trying to poop when he sings.
Any new country: Prefer the older stuff, Patsy Cline, Roy Orbison and the like. I can only suffer through a man losing his wife, house, and dog a few times before I check out.
Lou Vega: I was in a traveling dinner theatre and the director chose Mambo #5 as the intro and exit music. 185 shows I heard this song, no amount of therapy will help.
Nickleback: Do I even need to explain.
Limp Biscuit: Music written for douchebags by their king.
feel free to add.

Few of my favorite artists who haven't been named:
Jamie xx - He's part of The xx who are fantastic in their own right, but his solo stuff is excellent. If you want to dip your toes in, check out the videos for Sleep Sound and Gosh. His album In Colour is the official album to get. His Boiler Room set in Reykjavik is one of my favorites, it's on Youtube ready to be watched.. Speaking of Boiler Room, if you're remotely into that scene and haven't watch Fred Again's set from this year, do it ASAP - he's not breaking any ground, but the energy he can bring to a room is rare these days.
Frank Ocean - Channel Orange and Blonde are two of the best albums of the past 10+ years, and you should listen in that order if you want to give him a try (and you should). For tracks, check out Pyramids (but not the video version) and Nights.
Flying Lotus - His discography is getting extensive but I'd go for Cosmogramma as the project to hear. It's a mostly instrumental album and the influences go across jazz, electronic music and the various sub-genres, hip hop, and more.

Here's as complete a list as I can think of my music tastes, I'm sure I'm missing someone, and I'm sure I'll get the piss taken out of me for some of these, but to each their own.. They are in no preferential order.

They are in no preferential order. … Great list. I enjoy at least 90% of the artists you name. There are a couple I don’t know at all. I’m always surprised when anyone has even heard of The Bloodhound Gang. But your list doesn’t encompass a bunch of stuff I also like. My music taste are very wide ranging. I enjoy tons of R&B/Soul from the classic Motown to 80’s funk to hip hop and some rap. You’ve got some singer songwriter stuff on your list and that is music I enjoy too. You have a little grunge on your list and I find I like it way more now than I did when it was popular and I liked it a ton then. I find myself playing Soundgarden and Alice In Chains a LOT recently. I love the beachy/chill vibe of most music on “No Shoes Radio” on Sirius XM. For those unfamiliar, it’s a station hosted by country star Kenny Chesney but it’s much more than just his music. If I was trapped on an island with only one artist to play, it might be Van Halen (I’m a fan of both eras) but I’m not certain. it might be also be Foo Fighters or The Eagles or Marvin Gaye or Tom Petty.

I love Alice in Chains and STP and many more that only come to mind when I catch them on Pandora or elsewhere. As for Bloodhound Gang, I feel like they are an irreverent aquired taste. I can usually tell someone will be ok with my dark humor if they listen to them, I mean they have a whole bit about Pacman getting high on crack and peer pressuring them into trying it so…

Jody, I mostly use Spotify now and have my “main” playlist there. It’s at about 520 songs that are mostly rock, though there are plenty of songs from other genres. I do still have my pandora playlists which are broken down as follows
1) Rock and pop of 70s to 2000s (got some cringeworthy songs there that are guilty pleasures) 2) Classic Motown 3) Singer Songwriters 4) Dance/Funk/Jams from late 70s to late 90s (Kool & the Gang, Gap Band, Janet and Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, New Jack Swing, much more).
Never shared a playlist from either streaming service but I’m happy to do so if you think any of this might be interesting. Send me a message here if you want and we can have a more specific conversation.

One of my all time favorites, Jeff Beck, passed away suddenly from meningitis. His Truth album remains my all time favorite.
LOL, to eric, this isn't Beck.
Here's Jeff & Buddy Guy doing Mustang Sally. Note who is playing lead.

Know your history..... Missed opportunity to link Jeff Beck (RIP) to Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart. Also Mick Jagger to Superheavy to Dave Stewart/Eurythmics if we're going to include side projects like Them Crooked Vultures. And if you really want to stretch it throw The Dirty Mac in there to link the Beatles, Stones, Clapton and Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Beck, Stewart and Wood, Truth album is probably my all time favorite. I also would have put John Mayall at the top, He pretty much created the Yardbirds. Seriously, when I was in high school, the Beck version of the Yardbirds was my favorite group. At that time and among my peers, pretty much only musicians had even heard of them.

This is dangerous. The more I see the more I think that could be added.
Sabbath -> Ozzy Ozzy -> Zakk Wylde Ozzy -> Chad Smith (he's drummed on a couple albums) -> RHCP RHCP -> Flea/Dave Navarro -> Jane's Addiction -> Perry Farrell -> Porno for Pyros RHCP -> Flea -> Atoms for Peace -> Thom Yorke -> Radiohead Atoms for Peace -> Joey Waronker -> Beck/REM Flea -> the Mars Volta -> At the Drive In -> Sparta RHCP -> Chad Smith -> Chickenfoot Chickenfoot -> Sammy Hagar/Michael Anthony -> Van Halen Chickenfoot -> Joe Satriani Could also loop Petty back around to Fleetwood Mac via Mike Campbell.
Stretching it a bit here at times but rock music is kind of all one big family tree isn't it?

Worthy of note (as I see the JB/BG clip above): Buddy Guy is out on his farewell tour this year.
I find most blues to be formulaic and boring. Buddy Guy is NOT. That old man still does crazy things with a guitar...

Been looping this album this week. Songs 3-4 and 7-11 are vibesville. Here's 4: Not expecting this to speak to most people in this thread given most of the artists above, but hey, trying new things is good

I highly recommend going on Youtube and watching tons of Midnight Special, a live music show from 1973-1980. So many amazing performances that I can't even start naming them. Just about every band on it was amazing live, which is pretty much the exact opposite of today with most pop musicians never having played live, even in the studio. www.youtube.com/@themidnightspecialtvshow

Too many to list, but lately I've been on a real 80s-90s shoegaze kick - My Bloody Valentine, Jesus & Mary Chain, Swervedriver, Ride, Catherine Wheel, Slowdive, etc.

Random thoughts being dumped on here since I saw this thread and just went over my Spotify Wrapped. I'm assuming most on here probably won't share my taste in music (most don't).
If you're a fan of hip hop/Wu Tang and you're a bit of a nerd and like comics, Boston sports references check out Czarface. I'm not a huge rap/hip hop guy, but what I do like is stuff like this.
If you're into 80s style synthwave I would highly recommend Gunship.
Pop Punk I'm a big fan of Belmont as they were my number 1 listen. Hot Mulligan is another I discovered this year.
If you're into metalcore Kubla Khan TX is phenomenal.
I don't know what genre Secret Band would be listed as. It's all screaming, but I'm a fan of the instrumentals. It's not metal like Amon Amarth (great band), maybe melodic hard-core.
Defeater is a great melodic hardcore band.
If anyone listens to pure hard-core I would be open to new suggestions.

Our tastes seem close-ish! I don't know Kublai Khan other than The Hammer, but that's a good song. Have you listened through Soulless Hymns by The Last Ten Seconds of Life? It's more into deathcore but they have similar appeal I think. Same goes for some of the "nu-metalcore" bands blowing up nowadays - think bands like Alpha Wolf or Thrown. I have tons more recommendations if that stuff appeals to you. I like some stuff by Gunship and have a little synthwave interest myself. Do you listen to The Midnight at all? Especially their older stuff? I don't listen to much pure hardcore but I listen to a good amount of post-hardcore. I'm seeing Holding Absence, Casey, Capstan, and Acres at the Palladium in February - should be a good time! I'll check out Secret Band too. Never heard of them!

I hadn't, but checking them out, first 15 seconds in they seem pretty nifty. Secret Band I feel can be a bit hit or miss. Some of the lyrics are, silly, to say the least, but the guitars just hit. Projectile Comet, Stuck and Glued, Wasted Youth I enjoy by them. I feel like I heard of Alpha Wolf from Reddit when I was bored one day trying to find new stuff. Completely forgot about them. They're pretty good from the little I've heard. Just checking them out again. Same thread I was reading recommended Fox Lake. They're good, but it's certainly different. It sounds like a blend of hardcore and rapping. Thrown seems pretty good too. Listen to xAFBx - Jumping Ships. I love the intro. I think you'd like more Kubla after seeing these suggestions. I'm just getting into synthwave. I'm certainly interested in learning more! I do like a good post-hardcore. A Day to Remember used to be my absolute favorite, but after the 2nd or 3rd album, I was good with them. Kind of feel the same about Four Years Strong. Set Your Goals Mutiny and This will be the death of us I still listen to. Fun note - Defeater was my wedding song lol. The song is "I don't mind". It was funny seeing all the people asking about,"that nice band".

I was thinking they were giving off huge Dance Gavin Dance vibes and turns out Secret Band is basically a DGD side project! I guess it makes sense I didn't know them despite liking DGD, given that they're a secret band and all
I was huge into A Day to Remember back in Homesick era. Don't listen much anymore, but still lots of good memories.
Love the wedding song choice! I'd heard of Defeater but don't know them at all. Really liking Bastards right now.
Edit: And I'll definitely check out some more Kublai Khan too 👍

That's hilarious. I'm not a big fan of Dance Gavin Dance and then I went back to listen to it, yep. That's them haha. Never knew. I think they were my number 2 last year, either them or Hot Mulligan. I'm going to have some down time at work this PM so I'll give the playlists a listen! I saw ADTR when they were in their prime with NFG, ISHC (Jokey-side project), and FYS in Providence. That was one heck of a show. I made this playlist as kind of a joke, but also enjoy how relaxing it can be: Also a bit of a window of more of the bands I listen to without really any vocals lol
